With 16 different choices of Frozen Yogurt (nonfat, low fat, and sugar free options) and unlimited toppings what's not to love about this place? They weigh your cup by the pound before you pay, but prices are not bad at all.

My favorite is birthday cake & gram cracker and I love the strawberry, mango and banana toppings with Oreo crumbs. Everyone here is super friendly too. 16 Handles, thank you for satisfying my sugar cravings in a somewhat (and sometimes not at all) healthy manor.

    Make your own fro-yo!

I love this fro-yo self-serve buffet with assorted accompanying toppings.  You can sample them before you buy...and as many as you like.

I'm a big fan of being able to make your own concoction and are in control of the quantity.   Flavors rotate too, so it's nice to mix it up a bit with each visit.

Another great 16 Handles location. I have better luck with parking around here.

Like all locations, the flavors are great, and the toppings will make you feel guilty about piling them on.

I LOVE frozen yogurt. Just love it. There is ONE thing that can ruin that for me, and that is if a frozen yogurt establishment offers only chocolate sauce versus fudge. I am happy to say that 16 Handles has hot fudge and SO much more. The peanut butter fro-yo spectacular. I do not think you can go wrong at 16 Handles with the plethora of flavors and toppings they offer.

So much better than Pinkberry. The fro-yo is thicker, creamier, and much better tasting and I love that I can make my own fro-yo blend since I hate having to make a decision on one flavor. I blended red velvet cake with vanilla and nom nom nom....so good! I am glad to have discovered this chain when I want to get my sweet tooth fix on.

It was January 1st, 2012, and my second meal of the day (my first was a wonderful brunch on the day after a great new years eve party with my buddies) so it was the start to a great year.

The five of us headed to 16 Handles, now I am a thick creamy ice cream kind of guy who's into dense flavors so fro-yo was never much of an interest to me...I've been to pinkberry or blueberry or raspberry, whatever those other places are called and they did not attract my senses at all. So this was an experience for me in which I was not sure what to expect.

What struck me at first was the self service counter (You can serve yourself as much ice cream - err sorry fro-yo (excuse me I'm new to this) and you are charged by weight at the end) with a plethora of flavors to choose from. I went with coffee, chocolate and pomegranate for dessert. Coffee and chocolate and pomegranate were all amazing. My peanut butter cup and rainbow cookie topping were all fresh and delicious, plus its an all around healthy snack/ dessert so go for it!

If Pinkberry had stock I would short it.  Theirs is a fading model for running a fro-yo business... that is, if you can even call what they sell "yogurt" (if you don't know what I'm referring to, google "Pinkberry Sued For Allegedly Passing Off Instant Powder As Yogurt").

16 Handles has set the new standard in New York and it is here to stay.

This upper west side location is a stark contrast from the 16 Handles in the East Village.  It is brand spankin' new, spacious, and rarely crowded.  It offers everything that Yogurtland--a mostly west coast and southern-based chain and, in my opinion the best run fro-yo franchise in the U.S.--offers, albeit at NYC prices.

Even then, it is not outrageously expensive.  Compared to what you can get at Pinkberry for the same amount of money, 16 Handles is a significantly better bang for your buck.

16 delicious flavors, generous free sampling, every topping you could dream of, and a friendly staff and pleasant interior decor.  You can bet I'll be coming here to satisfy all my fro-yo cravings from now on.

My friend told me about this place and forced me inside, I try to be very careful in not cheating on Pinkberry because every time i do i become disappointed but geesh this place is great.

They have 16 different flavors of frozen yogurt hence 16 handles.
You serve your self and then pick and serve the amount and toppings you want, then its weighed and you get charged.

I got the tart yogurt with six different and topiing, medium size and it came out to $4.56, cheaper than pinkberry and the amount I wanted.

Sorry pink but 16 handles is awesome.

This place made me realize I got played by Pinkberry! Now I know better...

Same fro-yo, same kinds of toppings, but this is self-serve and they have WAY more flavors. Plus it's 25% less expensive than Pinkberry. You pay by weight but their "small" cup is the same size as a PB medium and I only payed $5 for it.

I got pomegranate and strawberry-kiwi fro-yo, but I also saw snickerdoodle, cheesecake, regular, and many others that I cant remember at the moment.

Service is quick and they have an app so you don't have to worry about the agony of losing the stamp card when you're one stamp away from a free fro-yo. True story.

If anything, I was bummed that the mango was less than ripe, but that's my own fault for choosing something like that that's out of season.

Not gonna lie when I saw "Frozen Yogurt" in my head I was thinking FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! i wanted icecream.

Not for nothin, they are obviously doing wonderful things with frozen yogurt now days.  When I was in high school we had TCBY, which tasted like a mixture of plastic, ass and a bit of depression.  Horrible stuff.

I'm truly amazed with the steps forward being done no with our Pink Berry vagina stores etc.

So like the fat kid I am i went for three flavors, Peanut butter was the first which is pretty damn good, the chocolate abortion or whatever they call it which is pretty awesome, and the banana... Now Im not going to lie I was scared to taste the banana, but like the other two was pretty awesome.

If you want they have a bar where you can put a whole bunch of shit on it, weigh your fatass yogurt and keeps it moving.

    Try it, why not

When a friend told me she discovered a serve-yourself icecream place that included pour-on-yourself peanut butter sauce, I was ready to go right then and there. I love icecream a lot so any place where I can decide how much I want of something, is something I'm gonna love a lot.

I really do love 16 handles because of their variety of flavors, toppings, nice staff and ease of process. Yes, it can be a bit expensive, but thats because you put a ton in your bowl! The first time I went I was tricked by their super sized bowls and filled the whole thing up with soft serve. Now I know to watch how much I put in. I usually spend around $5 which is worth it to me if its really good.

For those who like the tart taste soft serve and fruit toppings, they have that. That is not really my thing, so I go to town on the chocolate covered pretzels, cookie dough pieces, rainbow cookie pieces, sprinkles, m&ms, of course peanut butter sauce and more.

They have a frequent buyer card too, which is great except its only valid at that specific 16 handles which is kinda annoying when these seem to keep popping up everywhere.

(And I have to comment that this particular 16 handles seems to be slightly more expensive than the lower east side franchise, so that is why minus one star)

Today, I managed to spend almost $8 on a cup of frozen yogurt.

And while this may seem to some like a frivolous expense, for me it was only a fleeting discouragement. Then it was a delight.

Even just walking down the aisle of more than 16 different serve-yourself flavors made me absolutely giddy. The only disappointment was actually having to make a choice without tasting them all first. Well, I still managed to fill my cup with three different extraordinarily odd fro-yo concoctions: graham cracker, NY cheesecake and raspberry with a topping of fresh berry fruit. See what I did there?

So yeah, I went a little overboard with the yogurt flavors. Next time I'll keep it simple and save up for the incredible toppings but overall I love 16 Handles for leaving only myself to blame for making my snack as heavy as possible. If you like variety, then check it out for yourself. After all, isn't that the spice of life?

Hey, there's a 16 handles on the UWS. Awesome. I love this place! We actually used to schlep down to the village to get some every once in a while when we lived on the east side. Love the gimmick and the flavor choices. Plus they have a full nutritional disclosure (not just calories) right there on the unit.

It's pretty pricey if you load up on all the toppings, but still, it's probably one of the tastiest frozen yogurt places around...even better than oft mentioned Pinkberry and Red Mango. Worth a visit!

I'm not a fan of waiting in line for ages among loud teenagers with squeaky shrill voices talking about how wasted they were the other night.

The fro-yo itself is not outstanding, but the do-it-yourself concept is really a lot of fun!!! It allows guiltless decadence. That's what I like about this place.

In California there is a magical place called the Golden Spoon, where a college-aged Kirsten used to treat herself to raspberry frozen yogurt with gummy bears.

Kirsten grew up and moved to the great city of New York, where raspberry fro-yo was nowhere to be found.  Sorbet? Sure.  Yogurt? No.  And gummy bears? MIA.

One day, however, she and her roommate walked into 16 Handles, braved the crowd, and discovered a world as beautiful as the Golden Spoon... kind of like a Silver Spoon, or Platinum perhaps.  She found 16 different yogurts that could be mixed and matched, and she was able to concoct the perfect raspberry fro-yo out of berry sorbet and vanilla yogurt.  Her roommate somehow managed to fit the remaining 14 flavors in her bowl, all of which were delicious as well.

The moment of truth came at the topping counter, where Kirsten found her long-lost gummy bears waiting for her, sandwiched between fresh fruit toppings and the most fattening chocolate candies one can imagine.

The price was high, but for sheer joy, it was worth it, and Kirsten lived happily ever after.

Fro...Yo.... Fro...Yo... Fro...Yo... S/O to 16 handles for curing my sugar craving last Friday.  Discovered this spot while aimlessly walking around UWS.

As I walked up Amsterdam from 60th street, I kept seeing people pass by with colorful cups filled with what looked like frozen yogurt. Frozen Yogurt is like sneezing, once somebody has it everyone gets it. So naturally my brain told me that I MUST have fro yo.

I continued to walk up Amsterdam ave. Only now I was scanning all sides of the street trying to find the frozen yogurt. Passed by Hagen Daaz, a dessert shop, and a Mr. Softee trunk, but no sign of the frozen yogurt.  I was just about to give up after a few more blocks when I saw the light.

The 16 handles store shone bright as my defeat was about to set it.  The neon colored chairs outside were filled with happy faces.  I peered into the window and saw that I'd indeed found thee fro yo shop.

16 flavors of fro yo and one cup presented me with a problem.  A problem that coming back could solve. And that's exactly what I intend to to. The mixture of mango, pomegranate, and mixed berry frozen yogurt that I had was tasty, but my taste buds are still wondering what salted caramel, pistachio, cake batter, and double chocolate are like.

I won the Prettiest Froyo Contest recently, in which the prize included a $10 gift card, which is like getting 2 big sittings of fro-yo for free! Upon learning that contestants can win more than once, and since they have a weekly drawing, I am pretty sure that 16 Handles is going to be the only fro-yo joint that I will be frequenting.

There's always a long line at this location, but the layout is way better than the East Village shop. Your cup of fro-yo must cost more than $5 to get your card stamped!

Got red velvet cake and chocolate froyo with a little spoonful of pretty much every topping there...melted crunch bits, heath, fruity pebbles, brownie bites, cheesecake bites, chocolate turtles, truffles, ..............

    Dessert before dinner? Yes please!

Nothing like vanilla fro-yo with scrumptious toppings to get the digestive tract rolling :-) Hmmm, if I remember correctly: slivered almonds, gummy bears, and LYCHEE perfectly wedded the vanilla fro-yo :-p

Oh, a 90s music junkie? You had better bet that you'll be jamming to some tunes while you lounge with your fro-yo. Heck, I've already done just that!

I was taking a spontaneous stroll in NYC with a friend and I luckily bump into this place on Amsterdam! Being a fan of self-serve frozen yogurt, I became an instant fan. 16 Handles is definitely the best frozen yogurt place I've been to so far in NYC. It's open (finally!) and it's glorious.

A wall of flavors most of which are actually frozen yogurt (some sorbet), dozens of toppings (including the crumb topping like on the Entemann's coffee cake..the only part worth eating), and cups the size of your face to put it all in.

Be careful though - you control your edible masterpiece by pulling the handles and scooping the toppings. It's per ounce which doesn't seem so bad until you've made a 1lb cup of frozen yogurt and it'll cost you double what your dainty-and-carefully-placed-toppings-pinkberry would have cost.

There's even a back room seating area with benches and chairs so you can hide from your friends and neighbors as you finish off your beast of a dessert...or what I like to call dinner.

The shop is cute, the staff knows what they're doing, and they have SIXTEEN flavors (complete with nutrition info on computerized screens) and endless toppings.

16 Handles is slightly more expensive than some other do-it-yourself fro yo places I've been to but it's well worth it for the variety. They had a great range of flavors and the toppings looked deliciously fresh. There was a pretty long line for a Monday night but the staff kept it moving quickly. Definitely check it out if you live on the Upper West Side, but be aware you might become addicted and gain 1,000 pounds.

Had just finished dinner at 80th and Amsterdam, when my friend began to crave some Pinkberry. As we walked down Amsterdam, what we thought were Pinkberry cups that everyone was holding were actually from this place "16 Handles," so we just followed the trail.

Used to the 3 flavor options at Pinkberry, we were overwhelmed when we first walked in at 10pm on a Wednesday. The place were crowded, and there were 12 different flavors on the wall ranging from coffee, pina colada, coconut, chocolate, red velvet, NY cheesecake, birthday cake, banana, strawberry kiwi and "eurotart." We were immediately greeted by a helpful worker who explained to us how the place works.

You pick a cup size, cups are free. If you want a waffle lined cup, its $1. You put in as much yoghurt (feel free to mix and match) as you like and follow that up with their choice of 25+ toppings. You pay by the ounce and the weight of cups is excluded from your final tally. Its $0.52/ounce which equates to about $5 for a medium priced cup. Yes its pricey but you are paying a premium for the choice and selection.

Now down to the yoghurt. I prefer it to Pinkberry. For starters, it tastes like Yoghurt and not overly tangy. However if you want that Pinkberry "tart" flavor, than "eurotart" is exactly like that. I also like the fact that I can put 2 spoonfuls of 7 different flavors in one cup. Sometimes I just want 4 spoons of Yoghurt, here I can also pay for just that. Hence this is definitely my new favorite froyo place.

People were nice, polite and helpful, i don't know what everyone else is whining about. As for the woman with the stroller, you went during opening week. What did you expect? It wouldn't be crowded? Welcome to New York!

And remember, you're allowed 2 free samples per person!

So, when answering the question "5 things I can't live without", fro yo is probably on that list. This place is effing amazing and I'm just glad I don't live nearby otherwise I'd be an addict.  I'd heard about the one in EV but never made it there, and today when visiting a friend in UWS and walking around wanting fro yo, she mentioned this place had just opened up there and I was super pumped.

Oh it was glorious.  I really overdid it though.  Red velvet + cake batter + thin mint + mango + cookie dough topping. I managed to fit all of this into the small cup (HEAPING), and it came out to $10. I didn't mind, as this was lunch, but omg, it was good.  Next time I'll be a little more careful and not gorge on filling up the cup, but I was just too excited.

I figured it may have been my last froyo before the rapture, so I mean, whatevs.

Hey, I guess the highest praise I can give is that I went here 3 days in a row while in town. The employees, especially the guy on the floor that provides the samples, was super nice. The toppings are diverse and include such awesome things like Cap N Crunch, all kinds of fruit, chocolate, and candy. I might have to open up a franchise in my neck of the woods, but I'd probably gain way too much weight. My typical small size cup cost around $6. I never sat in the back but it looked nice and clean.

for certain flavors, addictive and irrationally good.

i stop by during a late night stroll, my friend wanted a cup, and i've been sick as a dog all weekend.

i try the no sugar added (really now..) cheesecake flavor, and the sample cup seems to me initially, a lot more fro yo than i could handle.

but 30 seconds pass and  the appetizer effect sets in, and i find myself leaving with a small cup with a few sampler flavors. the cheesecake turned out to be my favorite and the only one i liked.

the misses were the pumpkin flavor and the apple pie...all i tasted for those two was sugar + cinnamon overload.
