I have now eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner here, and not one of those meals has let me down in the slightest.  From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food, this place is Vermont at it's finest.  The interior is clean and attractive, but rustic and charmingly antique at the same time.  The service is genuinely nice, and as efficient as you'll find.  In three meals we've never had a mistake on any order, or anything but smiles from the staff.

The food is delicious, and homey.  For lunch the sandwiches are great; the charcoaled onions on the Beckner added a wonderful smokiness to what otherwise would have been a fairly standard roast beef sandwich.  For dinner, the thai lettuce wraps are a pretty remarkably tasty starter; pile some chicken and veggies into a piece of lettuce, roll it up, and enjoy!  The VT Turkey Dinner is nearly a good as mom's homemade; the turkey is tender, the gravy is real, and the cranberry sauce is very well made.  The stuffing is good, but I prefer mine with chunks of carrots and apples in it for a little crunch.  The Shepherd's Pie is one of the best I've had; plenty of veggies, a lighter sauce than must, and a good balance between potatoes and meat/veggies.

If you're visiting Smuggler's Notch, and you don't eat here and get donuts at The Cupboard Deli, then you've made a serious error!

This is a gem in the sea. A group of us were staying in the area to ski and we came upon this restaurant by chance. The group loved the food so much that we made reservations for new years eve dinner here for a party of 12.

For the quality of the food, taste, and amount, this place is a steal! For the new year's eve dinner, for $45 it was a 4 course meal (w/ dessert).  My bf and I shared the:
-mango avocado lobster bit salad / crab cake - The mango avocado lobster had the right mix of each ingredients but I felt like it needed a crunch (maybe asian crispy noodles?) , the crab cake was very good - moist and succulent .
-french onion soup/ tuna salad - the french onion soup was a bit salty but still flavorful and the tuna salad was simple and refreshing.
-1.5 lb lobster/ filet mignon - the lobster was of good quality  and amazing if dipped in butter and the filet was cooked just like I asked for (medium rare).
chocolate crepe dessert & peanut butter bomb - i loved both dishes esp if you pair the peanut butter bomb with a coffee....just melt in your mouth. The chocolate crepe had home made whipped cream which was extremely airy and light.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the class & quality of the food and the great price. A must for locals and people traveling by.

The service was amazing. So much I even remember our server's name - Eric. Since it was New Year's Eve, there was an issue with seating and we ended up seating at 8:45pm on a 8pm reservation. Eric was just awesome and made sure we were well taken care of. Being seated the last for the restaurant, there were some menu items that were not on the list. The chef was nice to comp us one meal. In the end, though we were seated much later, the great service and hospitality of the restaurant left us in good heart for the new year!

I struggled with this because my expectations were so high after reading the reviews and also a personal recomandation. The evening started out great as we had reservations and got there early, and were promptly seated. The interior of this place was very nice and homey a little loud but in a nice way. We ordered and the salads came right out and they were large and fresh. After about a half hour our main course came out I was ready to dig into my broiled seafood dish but noticed it was kind of pale in color.  Don't get me wrong, I eat more raw fish than cooked and some folks like their seafood rare but the only thing closed to cooked was the two shrimp on top(which I ate) the rest was raw. The scallops were smelly and even a little cool inside. My wifes chicken dish was cooked and tasty.  Our waitress was to busy to check on us until the very end of the meal so I didn't bother he to send back because I was ready to leave as we had been there for over an hour at this point.  How does seafood get sent out raw?? I took it home to microwave it but after cooking it the seafood smelled so bad I threw it away.

Very cute space right on main st in Jeffersonville.

I've been for brunch before and it was amazing - Irish Benedict which is with corned beef hash was awesome!
I recently went for lunch with my dad, and although he loved the space and the vibe, his meal was not great. He ordered the classic Vermont Cheddar cheeseburger. Our server asked how he wanted it cooked, and he requested medium rare. When the burger arrived with the cheddar totally scorched, I had a feeling this bad boy had been under the broiler too long. Completely cooked through, gray and dry.
I had the Pilgrim sandwhich, which is roasted turkey and stuffing on a house-baked kaiser with a side of cranberry mayo. Served with gravy for dipping on the side, it was not transcendent but definitely tasty.

I know brunch is solid here, and even though I wasn't blown away by our lunch I will try some more options here - but will head around the corner to the Burger Barn for my burger fix!

Just grabbed some lunch here - it was delicious!!

It is very close to Smugglers' Notch (ski resort) - so this is a good place to stop before or after your winter activities.

The inside is spacious, the food scrumptious, the wait staff friendly and gracious, and the restrooms are clean - what more can you ask for in a restaurant?

I got the thai lettuce wraps (it was not on the menu for lunch, but the waitress put in a special request for us and I was very thankful that the cook accepted our request) - the thai lettuce wraps come with a big plate of lettuce and a plate of the "stuffing" with pieces of chicken and veggies (including peppers and carrots and maybe green beans and onions - can't quite remember, I ate the whole thing so quickly!) in a light thai sauce (soy saucey).  there were also 4 different types of sauce framing the dish - sriracha, peanut, sweet & sour, and a teriyaki-y type of sauce.  I used the sriracha and the sweet & sour for my fries, but the wraps really did not need any additional saucing - as Mark Darcy tells Bridget Jones, "I like you very much, just as you are" (swoooooon!)

Oh and those fries - my goodness! they were near perfection - fried just right.  the outside was nice and crispy to give it all a great crunch and the inside was yummilicious - you really did not need anything on it - but the sriracha and the sweet & sour were wanting to be dipped, so I had to oblige

For dessert, I turned to their maple creme brulee - can't go wrong with maple anything in VT! it was a huge portion compared to most DC-portions and it came topped with a little strawberry.  I was glad they did not overdo the powdered sugar because I did not want anything to mar the taste of that delicious maple-ness ... mmmmmmmm

As for the bakery part ... well, they had some cookies and bread left ... apparently the locals raid the freshly-baked goods early in the day - hopefully we will get a chance to be one of the raiders next time around!

My family has been traveling up to Smuggler's Notch Resort for over two decades now, and we always felt that the local area was lacking a consistently delicious dining venue. Well, over the past few years, we have come to LOVE 158 Main!

During our summer vacation this month, we dined at 158 every day (yes, we certainly are a family of ruts), and each meal was better than the previous.

For breakfast, we enjoyed omelets, the decadent "grilled maple bread," and breakfast sandwiches. For dinner, we ate the salads (field greens with grilled salmon = phenomenal), pastas, chicken dishes, and appetizers.

The only section that we seem to have missed, probably because we were satisfied from dinner, was the dessert section of the menu. Next time, we'll eat less!

All in all, I highly, highly recommend 158 Main - there is something for every single person in your dining party; you will not be disappointed, and probably venture back there as many times as possible!

I cannot believe that I am the first to review this place!

This fantastic restaurant/bakery serves up delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonableness prices.  The portions are huge, the ingredients fresh and local.  Simply put, the food is amazing.  In fact, It was so good that we ate here three days in a row, which is unprecedented in my eating repertoire, and a testimonial to the quality and variety of our meals offered here.

Everything to your traditional foods( turkey dinner (complete with savory stuffing, cranberry crisp vegetables and mashed potatoes) to Singapore Noodles.  Breakfast, especially the breads, were very good.  Although my Eggs Benedict was a little cool when it came out, it was quickly rectified and the homefries were tasty.

Great atmosphere, good service and a great beer selection nicely round off this gem of place.  Has a good kids menu and is located only about a 10 minute drive from Smuggs.

Very good french onion soup.  Got the half/sandwich soup combo which also comes with a very fresh and large portion of green salad.  Menu has lots of sandwiches and deli fare.  Very reasonable prices.  Near the Smugglers notch ski resort area.  I believe they have a bakery on site as well.  The sandwich bread was plump and fresh.  Appears they have beer/wine/liquor too.

On a trip to Smuggler's Notch, I decided to try this place based on reviews from Yelp. I ordered the shepherd's pie, salad, and soup of the day (some type of chicken soup, I don't remember the specifics). The shepherd's pie was incredibly tasty, the salad was great, and the soup was great as well. Servers were very polite as well. I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area.

We stayed at Smuggler's Notch for a week, and dinner at 158 Main on our last evening was our favorite meal of the trip.  Good variety of options on the menu, and everything the four of us tried was excellent, particularly the special du jour, prime rib.  I especially enjoyed the "popcorn shrimp" appetizer--the shrimp were too big for the name 'popcorn' to seem appropriate, but they were very tasty and a bit spicy.  Great food and also great value and excellent service (thanks, Amy).

Like Angie C., my first experience with 158 Main was for breakfast.  I went with my bf and his parents and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.  I don't remember what the other folks had, but I had a Benedict that was very satisfying.

So we came back for lunch several weeks later.  Unfortunately and also like Angie C., lunch was disappointing.  We had the shrimp po-boy and the King (chicken, red peppers and brie).  The shrimp were not bad (despite being breaded and deep fried) and the tabasco mayo that came with the sandwich was good although not spicy at all.  The rest of the sandwich was boring, boring.  It was just a plain old roll with iceberg lettuce and tomato.  The King was similarly bland.  The brie really didn't add anything and was only on part of the sandwich.  They need to cook the chicken breast with garlic, pepper and salt, anything to give it some flavor.  And the potato salad was also very bland.  We agreed that celery, potato and mayo does not make potato salad.  Even adding salt and pepper in generous quantities did nothing for it.

In short, we'll brave the crowds for breakfast next time we are in the area, but we'll skip lunch.

Good food and huge portions. The only reason I give this place lower stars is the staff tend to be slow with a lack of personality. However, the local food and on site bread will keep me coming back when I am in the area.

Excellent Food for every meal.   Service can be spotty, but the food makes up for it. A definite top choice when you are in the Jeffersonville/Smugglers Notch area.
