Review from Amy S.
Walnut Creek, CA
The best thing about this bar is how open it can be in summer/spring. Nice weather and the entire front opens to the beautiful bar/seating area inside. It's in a good location in downtown Walnut Creek.
I love their happy hour (HH) but don't expect a cheap drink. A HH Bloody Mary with well vodka ($7), a Cadillac Margarita ($7) and Coors light ($3 - well, that's not bad). A few of these and you're already running quite a tab. For $7 you'd think you could get more than 2 olives on the Bloody Mary. How about some celery??!! I asked but no, it's just tomato in a glass. The Margarita was strong though - but well-made!
Their HH menu is pretty good. Lots of items on it - great selection, normally great value. My favorite is the 5 tacos for $5 (but it's chicken or beef - no mixing). They even come with a delicious BBQed jalepeno on the plate and a somewhat spicy salsa. Wonderful flavor.
[Note: their sweet potato (and regular) fries are fried separately from battered food so you can eat them if you have gluten allergies. Also, the tacos are on corn tortillas and are okay for the gluten-free diets as well.]
On Mondays they serve $1 Oysters (2 types of these, and one oyster that's $2 each). They're wonderful! Served with a vinagerette and a cocktail topped with horseradish. Mmmm MMm MMMMMM.
Recently we started out with service from the bartender and she was friendly and great and got everything right, but our group was joined by another girl and then somehow we ended up with a different server (Katrina?) who didn't explain she was taking over and wasn't nearly as friendly as the first bartender. The drinks (margaritas) had salt left off of the rims both times; and when I told her we'd asked the first girl to split our check she had a very brisk reply about how she couldn 't have known that because it happened before she took over our table. Employee miscommunication is no reason to be rude to a customer with a $28.15 HH bill ~ and that was just my tab. -

I'll keep it short:
Went on a lunch date with my girls last Saturday. When we walked in the host wasn't at her podium so we waited a second for her but while we waited I noticed a few stares..I know walnut creek isn't use to seeing that many black folk in their city or seeing black and white people going out together (my bff is white, and our other friend is black) but stop staring! Geeze! (Even though one dude was definitely checkin me out, I saw you;) LOL)
ANYWHO, took a min for us to even get a server....hmm wonder why. But once she came, she was nice (didn't check on us after giving our food though). I split the steak sandwich with my bff because I had dinner plans that evening and didn't want to be stuffed! And my other friend had the calamari app.
Food was fine. Drinks were fine as well. BFF got a rum runner, other friend a lemon drop and me a coconut mojitio that tasted like a regular mojitio. I asked the waitress if this was a coconut mojiito, she said yes..I asked her to bring some more cocount syrup please because I tasted ZERO coconut (if that's what they use) she said okay..and never brought it.
I'd go back if Im in the area AND want a good steak sandwich...other than that, I'll pass! -

I've been meaning to go to this place for a while and I finally went during lunchtime just to see what this place is all about. I've only seen it at night when it's crowded with lots of people holding drinks.
Service was great and I like how the restaurant layout is very open to the outside.
We ordered:
1) Crab Stack ($17)--Pretty awesome. It had a good presentation and it tasted great. I guess $17 is a fair price for it.
2) Fish Tacos ($13)--They were alright. I don't think they're worth $13. Maybe $6, seriously.
3) Chocolate Cookie Melt ($9)--Not as good as a Pizzookie from BJ's. It's pretty much the same thing just not as monster size and it looks a little nicer.
I don't think I'd come back again but they definitely have high standards of service and food. The bar looked like a nice place to hang out if you have time to kill in Walnut Creek. The bathroom was nice. -

Was in town for training and stopped by here with some associates.
It had a nice ambiance to the place.
The server was nice, but they were busy so didn't see her too much
I had the Jambalaya, which was ok.
Probably won't be in town again, so won't be able to try it again to see if something else blows me away. -

My wife, relatively newborn son, and I went out for dinner on Saturday night. We called ahead to confirm that bringing a young child was ok. We had a reservation for 9pm. They decide to put us upstairs. We were having a great time and really enjoying the food. About 9:45 the lights go down and the music goes up and the transformation into a night club commences. I don't have an issue with that, what I have an issue with us that if you're going to charge those prices then provide the ambiance that goes with it. By the time we were able to get our check it was well on its way to being a night club. My point is if that you are going to claim to be child friendly and an upscale restaurant then provide that service. Food was very good but decisions made by the staff were very poor.

Food was good and the service was excellent. I knocked off two stars for the following: When the waitress came to take our appetizer dishes, she asked if we were done with the bread sticks. We were and she proceeded to take them. I asked if the bread sticks were going to be thrown out, because if so, I was going to take them home. The waitress replied that no, the uneaten bread sticks do not get thrown out, they go to another table.
I wondered the rest of my meal who got our table's bread sticks after us, and whose bread sticks we had gotten. I'm glad I don't eat bread. That is kind of gross for a supposedly 'high end' restaurant.
If their customers waste that much in bread sticks, then maybe they should serve a tastier bread. Just my opinion. -

So I rolled in here for a night cap-- wanting to dance-- because I remembered this being a good place to dance, with cocktails, two floors of space and good music-- I thought anyway...
When we arrived, there was okay music playing and it seemed kind of mellow to be so late in the night already. We asked the manager to please play some music to dance to... and he said "absolutely no problem." We were the life of the party...lol... no one else movin n shakin, it's almost 11pm? What the heck? Still... good times.
Love how busy this place gets late into the night.. Tons of beautiful people everywhere ya look (or at least it seemed like they were all beautiful last night..) Laid back atmosphere, great, accommodating staff. Plenty of seats, lounge chairs and even an outdoor patio right there on Main Street.
My only complaint which is completely out of their control is- is that the city of Walnut Creek does not allow a club downtown the license to have a DJ or Entertainment...C-r-a-z-y!? I don't get it. ;-? Anyway, I'm a fan of this place for the cocktails and nightlife-- that's about it.Listed in: I like the night life baby...

San Francisco, CA
First thing first- the food was awesome. But the establishment could not successfully simultaneously satisfy myself as a customer, Steve's birthday party, and the small longe area in the back by the bar.
I rated this restaurant '3 stars' based on their lack of thoughtfulness and customer service. If yelp had a separate section for customer service, I would rate that section '1 star out of 5', and that's actually being generous.
Food: I ordered a chilled crab stack. It had two layers of dungenous crab meat, one layer of avocado slices with sprinkled bacon bits, sprouts and finely sliced cucumbers... soooo good!!!!!
Then I dipped into my husband's plate to discover his seafood ravioli was un-explainably stuffed with salmon chunks. I was floored with amazement. The ravioli was almost fist size with a tasty red sauce.
Like I said earlier, the food is delicious- but is it to much to ask for genuine hospitality and a smile?
Customer Service: We had seen and heard of the reataurant before. My sister really wanted to eat outside, but without a reservation- they were unable to accommodate this request. After watching two other groups be seated while we were smooshed in a corner by the hostess desk, we were finally seated.
They kept our water glasses filled, but my husband had to remind the server to bring my requested saucer of lemon wedges. They had flyers offering a three course meal for $30, but were out of many of those dishes. Various servers, other than our own, kept our water glasses filled.
I took longer to select my meal and our server used this time to be-friend other tables. We solicited another server to locate him. This totally made me re-visit my menu selection, as a medium-well steak would've backed up my table's entire meal. So I hurriedly chose the crab stack, a chilled item that, according to the menu description, seemed quick and easy.
Overall: The food was to die for. But if I could choose my place of death, it would not be a Saturday night, at 1515, feeling like an un-welcomed stranger in a dark corner. -

Wonderful night on the patio. Smallish wine list but really good food. Cheers to server Jenn and Mgr Ryan for handling a mis-communication in a most professional way!

Last Friday night, my girlfriends and I went out for a ladies night and had reservations at 8 pm. The Restaurant was very accommodating to our needs and we had asked for a patio table and they sat us in the corner of the patio at a perfect spot. Then the food came and it was all wonderful. Everything was tasty and plated nicely. It was a great experience overall.

Going to 1515 was part of a 2-part trip to Walnut Creek. We first went to Va de Vi (see other review as well) for a flight of wines and a snack and came here, to 1515, after realizing we were still hungry, and frankly, didn't want to head home just yet haha.
We arrived on a Friday night around 10p or so and they started checking IDs for entrance. Although this is a sign of restaurants shifting over to their "after hours, club" scene, the kitchen was definitely still open and the restaurant does a good job of separating those who wish to eat and those who wish to drink and socialize. Even though it was a Friday night, we were immediately seated and were provided with immediate service. After having a flight of wines at Va de Vi, I wanted a good cocktail, and they didn't disappoint. I ordered a Tom Collins and it was made perfectly despite the "busyness" of the bar.
As for food, in short, everything we ordered was delicious. My friends had a salad, and some pasta, and I settled for some onion rings (see picture) and a Meat Lovers Flat Bread Pizza (see picture). To me, the things that stood out the most were the onion rings and its accompanying sauce and the flat bread pizza. The pizza was generously topped and cooked just how I like it and certainly satisfied my hunger. For desert, I had the creme brulee (see picture) and, for being a traditional creme brulee, that was one of the best ones I've ever had in my life (best, being a raspberry infused creme brulee).
All in all, coming to 1515 was a great way to end the night. The ambience is comfortable and has a great balance for those who wish to eat and those who wish to drink and socialize. If anything, the bathrooms are located in the bar area so if you're easily irritated by that kind of environment, you may just want to hold it until you get somewhere else, BUT it's not all that bad at all. I highly recommend coming here whether it be for a bite to eat or to get your "socialite" on. Bon appetite! -

This place has a lot of buzz, and my sister wanted to go here for her birthday, which happend to fall on Mother's Day this year. Sadly, I am not impressed. The restaurant was mostly full (not completely full), was VERY noisy (hard to talk across the table) and service was painfully slow. It took too way too long for a drink from the bar to arrive. It took forever to order, and again to get the meals, and even longer again to order deserts, which did arrive in a reasonable amount of time, but by then, the restaurant was mostly empty!.
When I asked the friendly waiter why everything was taking so long, he told that (on this very busy night), the manager only had two servers on staff, and that he was only called in at 4 PM! Really? This seems like very bad management decision. And why wasn't he/she out there serving tables then? I saw two servers. Just seems like bad management.
The food: The stuffed crab mushroom appetizer as well as the grilled artichoke appetizer were great, and well worth the wait. But my wife ordered what she thought was "King Salmon" but was, in fact, not. Seems the King Salmon was listed on the "prix fix" menu, but the a la carte menue salmon was something else. This was not clear. The waiter should have told her when she said, "I'll have the King Salmon" that this was only on the special menu, instead he just brought the "other" salmon (When she complained, they did nothing about it either!) My sister ordered the Sea Bass. IMO, both fish dishes were rather tasteless and uninspiring at best. I had what they call "Jambolaya" (SIC), which was WAY WAY WAY over seasoned with cumin (took a ton of cheese to make it edible), and was served with pasta instead of rice. Maybe that is why they spell it with an "o" instead of an 'a". But it was not good. I did not send it back for fear of waiting another 30 minutes or more for something to replace it while everyone else finished dinner.
After a long wait, we ordered what the waiter described as "a partially cooked chocolate chip cookie with carmel and ice cream." When it arrived, we noted that the "partially cooked cookie" was VERY crispy, and when I pulled a big hunk off the bottom and turned it over, it was BRUNT! And they served it anyway. However, it was a large dish, and pushing the burnt edges aside, we enjoyed the middle portion which was good and gooey. The carmel mentioned was MIA, but this was still good though.
I guess I will have to try this place again since so many people say it is great. and maybe this was just a bad day. But for me, this was just too many problems in one evening. -

Walnut Creek, CA
At first sight, this seemed to be a good trendy spot in Walnut Creek. The food was a tad pricey but actually pretty good and the drinks were decent. I even liked our waitress. The only problem was that the manager, Ryan, was on a major power kick that night and really needed everyone in the restaurant to respect his authority! Our small party dropped almost $400 in here (and actually would've spent more!) if it weren't for Ryan. We practically sprinted out of the restaurant after Ryan visited our table and left to spend our money elsewhere that night. Way to hire top notch managers that have customer service top of mind! If you care about customer service at all, there are tons of other awesome Walnut Creek restaurants to choose from in the area that don't have managers like that!

By far, my most favorite place to go for all occasions. All of the food is amazing. My favorite dish is the Crab Stack. OMG! The staff is very friendly and always make you feel special. Whether it's cocktail night, date night, birthday, family dinner, whatever...you can never go wring with 1515. Their upstairs is perfect for larger events and conferences, as well. I'm a big fan!!

Been here twice now. In general their food is pretty consistent. Both times I went were not too busy. They are not the most attentive, but they are there if you need them.
Cute little place. Tables by sidewalk make for good people watching. Come on, admit it!
Food:
- Ceviche: Thumbs up
- French Onion Soup - Thumbs down, too salty
- Meat Lovers Pizza - Good, nothing special
- Crab Avocado Salad - good, needs more citrus flavor
- Small Plate: Three Cheese Ravioli with balsamic: would probably have liked better with marinara
- Fish tacos: too fishy for me
- Sweet potato fries: Thumbs up
- Cookie with ice cream: No complaints from me!
- Chocolate creme brule with peanut cookie: Pass
I will be back. -

First off, there was a rubber band in the breadstick dip. We asked our (very sweet and attentive) waiter to please send the manager to our table, as this is unacceptable. It took the manager 45 minutes to come talk to us and all he said was "I can't imagine where that would have come from." After bringing us the bill, we had to get up and walk it inside to pay. After speaking with the manager again, he said he "would have bought the item with the rubber band in it, except that it was already free!" Regardless, we are disappointed because there were many things we wanted to come back and try but will definitely not be returning at this point. The only reason for 2 stars was because the food we ate that didn't have any foreign objects in it was actually really good. Overall, good food - horrible customer service.

Being in the city all the time, I get to try a ton of great restaurants. But this place surprised me. Mojitos were not that bad! Kinda nice. Had combo oysters, sea bass, and the seafood grille. It really didn't look like that much food, but it was definitely filling. Great flavors! For a Sunday in east bay...I guess there were enough ppl in there. The bar was nice. Oh and they had a fireplace outside with a tv built into the mantel. Perfect for cocktails and drinks outside!!

We first went to 1515 based on reviewing their menu online. Wow, what a pleasurable experience. The food is amazing. Fresh and flavorful and reasonably priced. If you like Cosmopolitan's, the house Cosmo is not to be missed. Made with Orange Vodka. The service was stupendous. We have been back several times and have yet to be disappointed in anything we ordered. If fact, we've been wowed by what we've ordered. Recommend highly.

We usually stay away from downtown WC due to parking issues, but we had no choice as we were attending an event close to the restaurant.
Our reservation got lost, but it was early enough so we were able to get a table. The dinner menu prices were reasonable and the service was good. Everyone in the party enjoyed their selections and the average price per person with drinks, shared appetizer, entre and shared dessert came to less than $60. -

Lady bartender upstairs is rude B word. I paid for my drink, there was a quarter change off my $10, I was reaching into my purse to get her another bill when she very loudly says, "Did you want this quarter?" and slams it down, like I was stiffing her. I don't know why I left her the additional tip anyway, but SHE is the reason I don't like this place. Not good to have a rude bartender.

I went to 1515 with my parents for their anniversary after having been there before and the service being quick and the ambiance being nice. Not on this night.
The place was more like a bar and everyone was screaming and yelling. The waiter was incompetent and could not get our orders right for the life of him. The food also took forever to come out and was cold.
The waiter comped us our calamari appetizer which was average at best, and yes, cold. Thanks for nothing, and it was still almost $150 for a few drinks, a few dishes and one dessert. Definitely will not come back here. Save yourself the trip. -

Came here on a Saturday night. The lady bartender upstairs refused to exchange a wrong drink order. Wow! She claimed it would come out of her paycheck. Either the bartenders are rude liars, or the owners are taking drink errors out of bartender paychecks. Either way, I won't be returning to 1515. And there's no way the Diablo "Best of" awards have anything to do with their nightlife. Worst bar in Walnut Creek.

Service was horrible! To make a long story short, We sat at 715 didn't get our orders taken until 8. Two or three groups that sat after us had ate and left before we even got our food. My friend asked to see the manager and explained our situation and he didn't seem to care at all. So we were ready to leave when the manager, Ryan, came to our table with the worst attitude and was so disrespectful to us we could not even believe it. He asked us if we "really had THAT bad of an experience".
Horrible customer service!
Way over priced. ( if you're going at all which I recommend you don't) do not get the $8 "medium sized" Cesar salad with a whopping six pieces of romaine lettuce.
None of us will be returning! -

Not a fan. I have been 4 times and only 1 of the 4 was ok- and that was because of the company I was enjoying. The service has never been good- slow and make mistakes they do not apologize for. The drinks are overpriced and the food is not that great. I do like the location and the fireplace on the patio- but not worth it just for that.

Went here with a group of old friends for a night on the town- my friends were very excited to have a sitter for the night to have a nice dinner with adults, and all of us really enjoyed it. It was a busy Friday night, letting us know there'd be a bit of a wait, but we snuck up stairs and first had a drink in the lounge area. I think we could have been served our dinner here, but they came to get us and sat us at a nice large table in the main dining room. Love the elegant, dark wood decor, dim lighting. We all ordered some wine and shared some appetizers.
The service was very friendly and professional. I ordered the sea bass with gnocchi- wow! I am still thinking of this meal 8 months later! Highly recommended if its still on the menu. The gnocchi you could tell was freshly made, and the sauce...oh! So good, flavorful and nice and light at the same time. The sea bass cooked to perfection. Topped the meal off with with the creme brulee, that comes with a yummy little cookie. It was a perfect meal, and this is an excellent place to come with a larger group of friends, or I can see it also being a nice place for an intimate dinner with your significant other as well. -

Spent the day in downtown Walnut Creek and popped in for a glass of wine before pedicures. They house Chardonnay just happened to be Lange Twins which is from my area. Good wine and atmosphere. Munched on some yummy bread sticks that came with really good hummus and another sauce ?? Would like to go back for lunch or dinner as it seemed cozy inside and a patio with fireplace was very inviting,
Looking forward to the next trip. -

Contra Costa, CA
Noisy, overpriced, lack luster service. If you're looking for a nice, tasty and relaxing dinner, this is not the place. If you're young, looking for a hangout with lots of noise, not really into conversation without stretching your vocals, you'll be right at home.
I visited this past Thursday with my wife and another couple after work. After making arrangements to meet there and prior to our arrival, I checked out Yelp. I saw the lower than expected ratings, called my friend to share the ratings info and see if we could change restaurants. He wanted to give it a try, so we did.
We are all middle-aged in our 40's-50's. We met in the noisy bar at 7 pm and quickly asked to be re-seated inside the restaurant so we could hear ourselves think. I couldn't believe the level of noise. The amplified guitar music didn't need amplification due to the close proximity of the guitarist to others on the cramped patio.
Anyway, after moving we were seated near the entrance to the kitchen. Not wanting to hear the kitchen door opening and closing all evening, we asked and were given the only table for 4 available, close to guess what.....the noisy patio. We agreed to this and ordered food.
The waiter was friendly, but looked intoxicated. I don't think any of the wait staff or greeters were over 23, something I suspected would be troublesome. 3 of us ordered salads. They were just OK, and severely over-priced. Our entrees were just OK as well, overpriced, etc. Food was a little slow to arrive to the table. A glass of cheap wine was $8. Table bussers were unfriendly, and quick to simply take your plates without asking if you were done. Our meals came, but were presented to the wrong people in our party.
I and my friend are a member of Passport Dining, which 1515 recognizes. I do not work for and am not promoting membership. Passport membership gives a free entree with each entree purchased using the Passport dining card. This was a main reason for wanting to try 1515. The tab for 2 entrees (2 free), 3 salads, 4 glasses of wine and 2 desserts = $190.00. OH, and WHEN the bill arrived, they had automatically added an 18% gratuity?? Who does that? Not cool.....but we paid it.
For this amount of money, we could have eaten at Bridges, Piatti's or Esin in Danville, Prima located across the street from 1515. Each of these places are very fine restaurants which boast consistent high quality, excellent service with a nice classy ambiance. Knowing this, I felt gypped when the bill arrived . Live and learn right?
With many other choices out there, I'm afraid I've completed my first and last review of 1515.1 Previous Review: Show all »

There is nothing bad to say about this place. The food, atmosphere, employees, owners and can never forget the drinks are all "Awesome". Anytime I'm in walnut creek its a must that I swing by 1515 to order the Tuna tartare, Crab tartare (seasonal) mixed seafood grill, gnocchi, I mean I can literally name everything on the menu. The chef & Owner have something special that other establishments wish they had. You will not be dissapointed, go and find out for yourself and you can thank me later.

After reading Diablo magazine announcing that 1515 is a "Four Time Diablo "Best of the East Bay" winner in 2010 we decided to give it a try.
If a customer has to wait to be greeted and seated while the host mingles at the back of the bar (watching the game perhaps) and the wait staff walk past us without even acknowledging our wait then it is not Best of the Bay - we get better service at Starbucks!
The host finally made his way over to us, checked us in, wiped down our menus and offered us a choice of tables. We obviously chose wrong, because our table was dirty.
Disappointed, we left without ordering, walked across the street to SASA, was greeted and seated immediately at a clean table....and spent our hard earned dollars elsewhere... -

Food- good
Service- good
Ambiance- good
Went here with a group of friends to pass some time before another was able to get off of work. Had both the grilled artichoke and fried ravioli to start, both were good but nothing special. For dinner, I ordered the enchilada skillet... and a mango mojito. If I were to go back I'd likely order the same.
Portions were just right. Not too much and not too little. The average person should be able to finish their entire meal without feeling over indulgent.
The inside seating is dark and crowded and not as enjoyable as the patio seating, so I would recommend waiting a little if necessary for the patio. -

This is what going out for happy hour should be. I can't speak for non happy hour menu, but the staff and happy hour food at 1515 made me very happy. It was the Cotton Bowl, which no one in California land takes notice of, but I went in at game time and requested they turn it on outside. They happily did and I had a warm cozy place by the fire outside with a heat lamp as well. Cold good beer and amazing kobe beef sliders! Really good...my only criticism...a tad more cheese and sauce, but amazing none the less. Great deal at happy hour. Crisp fries too. Really nice staff. Thank you 1515 staff.

Review from Alice T.
I came here to dinner on a Wednesday night around 8:30 pm. Service was very very slow. I ordered a grilled Halibut with salad, and my husband ordered pork chops. Both were delicious! Especially the mash potatoes that came with my husbands pork chops. My salad was one of the best salads I ever had. So was the Halibut. I really liked the food. It was prepared like it came out of the magazine.
However, I hate the service. So slow for everything. I had to ask to be seated. I had to flag someone down to take my order. I had to flag them down again to pay. It was just bad service.
For the food I give it 4 stars for the service 1 star. I almost did not tip, but felt bad so I tipped anyways. I probably will not go back again. If I was paying $8.00 for an entree..I would not mind the bad service. But if an entree was $25 dollars, I think better service would have been nice.
Ambiance and everything was beautiful....Bad bad service. Expect to be at this place for about 40 minutes before you get your food.
