Great food, reasonable price. Their seafood line is better, delicious crab cake, nicely grilled fish and fresh scallops. Warm and cozy environment, but lot of spaces for larger groups. Downside is their alcohol drinks are really expensive (expect 10+ each). If you want some wine, get a bottle.

It's hard to not point out the fact that this restaurant is simply a corner of the lobby in a hotel; it's awkward and the hostess was facing the elevator, thus catering only to those rooming at the hotel. I didn't get the vibe that they receive walk-ins often.
We had a reservation, but when we arrived, we realized that we were one of two tables. Not exactly reassuring, yet there could be many reasons for that..
Anyhow, the staff was sweet and kind (although the female was bathed in some potpourri scent which was all but acceptable for working in food). They were attentive and did their jobs well.
Let me first say that I despise olives. Let it also be known that I LOVE bread. Unfortunately the only bread in the basket was olive-stuffed bread. Enough said. Anyhow, the offerings were typical American; nothing earth shattering. My partner had seared scallops and I had the NY strip. My steak was over-cooked, but the scallops came out well. The wine list was extensive, but few options by the glass.
I would have given three stars for the potential in this place, but when we got the check I realized our bill was not reflective of the overall experience.
If 15 Ria did a little overhaul, they could really start to establish themselves in the DC restaurant community. -

Beautiful atmosphere, but way over price. They had a 1000 point special on open table and I never been there before so I gave it a try.
Service was decent. Food not worth the price - it wasn't bad, but it was so above cost of similar restaurant in the neighborhood. Not a place I would visit again unless someone else is paying :-) -

Beautiful interior, downstairs from the Double Tree, but jeeeeeeeez it is expensive. $20 for a double vodka and gingerale. Maybe this is how DC is?
Either way, it's pretty, but it ain't that pretty. Look elsewhere. -

While the food was tastey it lacked presentation. REasonable prices but not exactly a hot spot. At 7 on a saturday there were only 3 seated tables. I also found the service a little cold. Good hotel restaurant, bad for a local

Oh, this place is so sad and uncomfortable. I can't believe Jamie Leeds used to work here. The restaurant is no more than an extension of the lobby.
On a Saturday evening, we were the only two people there, and only because we had a http://Restaurant.com certificate.
The food is okay. Presentation can use some work, and the offerings aren't really anything to write home about. Caesar salad, calamari, steak.
The lone waiter was very nice, but despite his efforts, I wouldn't spend my own money here. -

15 Ria is located inside the Washington Terrace Hotel which I did not realize my first time here. However, one of the pluses of it being inside the hotel is that there was not much of a wait to get outdoor seating on a sunny day.
The food is good here. I had a bourbon-ketchup burger which I can whole heartedly recommend to carnivores. and stole some scallops of my dining partner's plate. The scallops were awesome! I suggest getting those. We shared the chocolate grenache and it was mmm mmm good. I am a chocoholic and noticed the use of high-quality chocolate in it.
The service was pretty crappy. We felt rushed, even though we were there on a weeknight and it was not that crowded in the restaurant. -

Lately I dine out with an agenda. I'm looking for the perfect happy hour spot for a monthly group thing. This combination of ulterior motives and Restaurant Week, plus a dose of Yelper reviews, convinced me to try 15 ria.
NB: This is a lunch review; I have not yet been there for dinner.
Wow. If dinner is anything like lunch, then I am sold on the chef.
I had the crab poppers, the hangar steak, and the creme brulee. The two crab poppers were a little underdone in the middle, but in terms of taste and texture, there was no loss. The crab was left in large enough pieces that it could be savored, and there was just enough red pepper remoulade to flavor the dish. At first I thought only two poppers wouldn't be enough. Heh.
The hangar steak was *perfect*. Perfect portion size, perfect doneness (rare), perfect reduction sauce. Five gorgeous little fingerling potato halves, done to perfection and crispy on bottom from pan frying. A nice-sized serving of steamed snow pea pods, just the right textural and taste balance to the steak and potatoes.
My only complaint is about the creme brulee. Please understand, I grew up 1.5 hours outside of New Orleans; good food had better be damned good to impress me. Creme brulee is near the top of my expectations, too. The creme I had yesterday, though, was not up to that. The temperature differential was not properly observed, i.e., the brulee wasn't hot enough and the creme wasn't cold enough. Too, the creme was too much like pudding and not enough like custard.
Note that I ate every bite, regardless.
My husband was less happy with his food (watermelon soup, pasta, ice cream nut roll), but I'll let him join Yelp and write about it one day.
More on happy hour as that progresses. -

Decided to give 15 Ria a go for RW...and I had a http://restaurant.com certificate which I brought in case I didn't want the RW menu. Surprisingly, when they saw the coupon, the volunteered that they would accept it even for the RW menu. I didn't like being cheap, but I was way early for the rush, had made a reservation, had a nice (pricy) drink at the bar before hand, paid for parking...and, well, I knew I'd come back since this was my third trip there.
I'm in agreement with a couple of other yelpers here on the skill of the chef...plus she is pretty friendly, coming out to check on the diners and their satisfaction a couple of times.
The short of it is that I got the melon soup with lump crab on top (loved the spice of the crab and the sweet of the cold soup,) the hanger steak with buttery cripy potatos and the fruit crisp dessert. I'm sorry that I didn't have space for all of it, and ended up taking the fruit crisp home. That gave the chef some heartburn as she didn't have a 'to-go' box for it, so they scooped it into a soda cup. Didn't matter to me - it tasted fresh and gooey later that evening when I was craving something sweet.
Nice sweet service at the bar and at the table. The hostess, servers and bartender all pitched in an helped each other as it started to get busy -- that was like having a meal in someone's home.
Nice meal, nice treat! -

This review is for the breakfast only-- I arrived late into National on a business trip, and all the places around my hotel (the DoubleTree) that said they were open until midnight, had all closed at 11. Ahem.
I ate a granola bar I had stashed in my luggage, and then woke up early to eat breakfast. Since I was about ready to gnaw off my own arm after a cross-country plane flight with delays up the wazoo as well as rerouted luggage and other travel ridiculousness, I ordered room service from 15 Ria. I ordered TWO breakfasts-- the mascarpone-stuffed french toast with strawberries and maple syrup, and the crabmeat omelette with spinach, leeks, fennel, and Gruyere, that were served with fried potatoes. Both breakfasts were excellent, and yes I ate everything.
I don't know what dinner is like in this joint, and judging from the other reviews it is okay but there is something intrinsically sucky about a nice restaurant in a hotel; who the heck wants to hang out in a hotel unless they are staying there, or if it's not The Standard or some other bourgeoisie boutique hotel that is trying to be a scene? This is why I ordered in room service while still in my PJs, because I can (and because my work pays for it). -

After dinner, I checked it out on Yelp. Was surprised about the ratings. It really deserves better. The food was delicious, the service was great and the martini was perfect--cold and dry. A much better restaurant than you normally find in hotels. It stands up as a stand alone.

Went for brunch and also chose partly because they offered 1000 points on Open Table for Sunday afternoons. (I don't know if I love OpenTable more than Yelp...wait, actually I do.)
I had the bone-in ribeye. I ordered it medium rare and it was grilled perfectly. Full of flavor and not too fatty. The roasted potatoes could have been better. M ordered the omelette and R got the french toast.
Service was spotty, hence the 3 of 5 stars. -

Visited this place for a work lunch with several colleagues and probably would have faired better at the cafeteria in our own building. For a whole lot cheaper too.
I had a "100% Angus" burger that was 75% the size of a regular restaurant burger. I clearly asked for all of the optional toppings that the menu listed (grilled onions, mushrooms, blue cheese) and instead just got an average beef patty with some unknown yellow cheese, one or two anemic looking onion bits, and a tomato that was so unripe it crunched. The burger itself tasted OK, but $14 at lunch for it? Please. Also ordered espresso after the meal, and it came in a half-filled regular coffee cup. How do they expect repeat business if they give their customers caffeine-induced heart attacks? Yeah, you don't have to drink it all, but a small helping of class would have been nice.
My workmates' lunches all looked like generic diner food, and no one finished theirs. Maybe they were all too busy trying to make some sense of the garish, schizophrenic decor... -

Visiting DC from NYC and decided to grab a meal in the Doubletree Hotel. We had a gift certificate from http://Restaurant.com which they gladly accepted.
I wish we had spent that gc elsewhere.
We'd been sightseeing all day and were famished. We were seated quickly, but a short lined formed behind us since it was dinner hour. The other two parties were greeted by their waiter, obtained drinks and a bread basket before we met ours.
When he did arrive, he took our drink order and brought the wine over quickly. Delicious. Best thing about the entire evening there. After the wine, things all went downhill. Our neighbors recieved their entrees and we still had not received our appetizers or that breadbasket either. The bread did arrive eventually- after our appetizers. And this even when we had asked the waiter for some bread and told that it was coming. At least it arrived before our entrees.
I'd so been looking forward to dinner and even with this hunger, found the entrees to be lackluster. I had heard good things about the chef here. It must have been her day off; which seems odd since this was a Saturday night. For a $100+ meal, I expected better. Meh. -

Went here while on vacation. The food was excellent and our server was very attentive. I had the black bean soup to start, the NY strip steak next, followed by the banana cream pie. It was all dee-lish, but the banana cream pie rocked my world. Make sure you order it if you go.
I would go here again....but save up your food stamps. It was $300 for 4 of us. Definitely not someplace I could afford to visit weekly. -

Twice I've been to 15 Ria and twice I thought, why the heck don't I come here more often? I love the ambiance of 15 Ria, the sort of marrakesh lounge feel, and the food is just pretty darn good. The meal started with a very nice crab cake and salad and was followed by a grilled chicken breast on a bed of risotto. All of it was tasty and the service was great. 15 Ria is one of those tucked-away hotel restaurants like Corduroy that folks just don't stumble across, so it's not as crowded as other places. After this second visit though, I think I'll be making an effort to go back. Nummy.

What a disaster the bar was. They were hosting a special event and were totally overwhelmed. Oh, and the reason you offer a drink special when you are hosting an event isn't to sell more drinks but to steer people toward something easy to make that you've already prepped in quantity to take some of the pressure off your bartenders. Offering a drink special so appalling that the bartenders are too embarrassed even to tell people what it is doesn't serve this purpose.

After reading plenty a good review of 15 Ria, we decided to give it a go for our anniversary dinner. First off, it is very important to be aware that this a hotel restaurant. We kept muttering Howard Johnson's under our breath. A much more upscale Howard Johnson's but still... The restaurant was pretty empty upon our arrival and it should have tipped us off that we were the only reservation. Our waiter's service was mediocre considering the lack of patrons. He recommended the popcorn shrimp and calamari, another red flag, but we fell for it. I've had better in a smoky bar. Our entrees were hit and miss. The ambiance was crap. A crying kid, lounge music, horrible lighting and paper placemats and crayons for the kids. We will not be back. But we will laugh about it for years to come.

I went here with a large group of people for a business lunch. The service was good but the best way to describe the food was not memorable and boring. I had a chicken salad that can at best be described as nothing special and on the bland side. Also, inside the restaurant you're very aware you're still inside a hotel. The decor needs some updating.

So here's the scenario: You're staying at the Doubletree. You just got back from meetings, and your feet hurt. You are hungry. This is the only scenario where I think it would make sense to have dinner at this place. I live like 2 blocks away and had a coupon (as others have reviewed) from http://restaurants.com. So it was a discount, and I don't think I got a bad deal -- considering the discount.
But the food's...well...it's just not that great. Nothing special. Granted, it's not bad. My steak was prepared well, and I did like the basket of various kinds of bread that they put out. But we ordered the calamari, and it was obvious that they cooked it in oil that had been sitting in the deep fryer just a bit too long. I think that's a pretty good sign of a restaurant that doesn't turn over much business.
So did I have a bad experience? No. But without the discount coupon, there would have been *no* reason to go here. Unless, of course, you're in the scenario above...where you're staying in the doubletree and your feet hurt. Although -- quite frankly -- if you're staying in the Doubletree, walk the block and a half to Stoney's and get a meal there. It'll be a third of the price for much better food.
Meh. -

This used to be one of my favorite spots but last time we went at Xmas 2008, the restaurant was under renovation and there was no note on Open Table about it! This is not Open Table's fault, but it was very unfair to us because this was a special occasion and we were looking forward to a nice fare with great ambiance. The service here is not dazzling but the servers do try. This time the server didn't seem to care much about his job, and since the restaurant was under construction, only the bar was open. Restaurant dining was available in a conference room with no view, no windows. It was very cheap feeling, not a good substitute at all. The menu has changed since early 08 so I'm afraid to go back, even though construction should be done by now. Oh, and we ended up walking out and going to another restaurant.

I had a decent meal here. We were seated at a table directly next to the swinging door to the kitchen. There were plenty of open tables so I am not sure why they seated us where they did. We asked to be moved and we were promptly moved to a much better spot. The salad was fantastic and the main course, a steak, was good too. Then came time for dessert. The waiter recommended a dessert sampler. When he brought it out we started cracking up. We were served three of the tiniest dessert cups you could ever find. They tasted fine but they were minuscule and we felt overcharged for such a tiny amount. This was a few years ago so hopefully they have increased the size of their desserts since then.
