5 reviews for 14th Street Playhouse
I agree with the previous two reviewers: this place is one of the best in Atlanta to see a show. Located right next to Piedmont Park off Peachtree and 14th, it's right in the middle of everything.
The playhouse itself is nice and cozy, with surrounding seating set up so that you look down onto the stage. I like that in a theater: it gives perspective and adds a nice layered feel to the space.
I saw 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' here several years ago, which is one of my favorite plays, and was quite pleased with their rendition of it: they did it justice without getting too liberal.
All in all, an excellent place for a date or an evening out.

Nice! My first time in this playhouse - it's a great size, with seats that are comfy and roomy. It is easily located in Midtown, with a parking lot adjacent to the theatre... so no long walk in those high heels! The drinks/snacks were reasonably priced.. and you could take them into the theatre (yay!). From what I could tell, not a bad seat in the house!

Okay, I'll admit I'm biased on this one because I work here, BUT, I wouldn't work here unless they were good people to work with and produced quality material!
I've spent 6 months here in Atlanta performing on the mainstage of the 14th Street Playhouse in "RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women", and it has been a blast! We opened in March after a the theatre hosted a successful 2 1/2 year run of "Menopause, the Musical", and while I've been here I have experienced other fantastic shows running in the other two theatres housed there, including the critically acclaimed "Always, Patsy Cline". These shows garner great reviews, and though in this case are mainly "commercial" productions, they also host theatre created by and starring local actors.
Not only are the shows great, but the rest of the staff that is so necessary to the public relations aspects of live theatre are top-notch, as well. The box office staff are friendly, the ushers are knowledgeable and helpful, there are snacks and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) aplenty during intermission, a merchandise booth with lots of fun souvenirs to take home, and parking is only $5 in the lot adjacent to the building. The only slight downside to the building itself is that the restrooms are located on downstairs, so mainstage audience members have to go down a floor to use them; but there's an elevator if you need it, so no real worries, there!
There are also many restaurants and bars within walking distance for pre- and post-show gnoshing.
So, aside from promoting the show I'm in currently, the theatre itself really is quality! Come and visit us if you can!

nothing says playhouse like $3 mints and $5 domestic beer! Well, I thought this would be one I had to drink my way through; however, the show and the venue were pretty good. I went to see a one man show and it was captivating and well performed. The playhouse is a cozy little place with good lighting and sound. The best compliment I can pay is that the venue was not a factor in the play.

Saw Jewtopia here last Sunday. Not the best theatre around (just a room filled with seats) but the play was good. Location is great though.
