"I love the pub quiz, I love the beer, I love the popcorn served with a kitty litter fork, I love it here!"
This beautifully appointed theatre has eclectic talent. It is an intimate and casual setting, a great venue for comedians, singers, and entertainers in general. Arj Barker is one of the funniest comedians I've ever observed. I've seen him twice there, and he'll be there again on Feb. 24th. I also saw Maria Muldaur there and she gave a fabulous performance. The cost is reasonable...if you get there early enough you get to sit at a table, cabaret style. 142 Throckmorton is fast becoming the crown jewel of Mill Valley.

Charming little theatre. The only big drawback is that it's in Mill Valley.
What a town full of douchebags. I've never seen so much pompous privilege in one place before in my life.
It's like being at a Yale reunion but they conveniently 'lost' the invitations of all the minorities...
I don't know about any regulars that have become "annoying" as the previous review said. Last night, I was a virgin to 142 Throckmorton & it was INCREDIBLE! Maybe it had something to do with being connected with SF's Sketchfest, but I just can't stop thinking about the night on the town of Mill Valley.
The theatre is adorable. The comics made fun of the scaffolding along one wall as the place is in the middle of some cool renovations.
Mark Pitta hosted & I didn't know anybody in the line-up, but all performers (Kasper Hauser, Hard 'n Phirm, Reggie Watts, & Clinton Jackson- I hope I left nobody out) were wonderful. What really took the cake was having two locals make special appearances: Dana Carvey & Robin Williams! As far as I could tell, Robin just ad-libed with Mark Pitta & impressed everyone. Dana was so comfortable with the crowd & tried a few new ones on the audience as well as some familiar characters from SNL & old acts. All of the new-to-me acts I hope to see again. Many received well-deserved standing ovations. I have no idea how they get their material, but they are all geniuses. Truly.
Robin Williams was the last act & picked (on) a girl named Alex from the audience to come up on stage & take dance lessons from him. Alex, if you read this, you were such a wonderful sport & I have no idea how you didn't blush. I was blushing for you & know I would have died if Robin & dragged me up there. You did great!
I didn't want the night to end. I had never laughed so hard. My face is still aching this morning. If you have a chance to attend next Tuesday's show with Jeff Probst, I really doubt that you'd be disappointed. Pay the $5 extra to have assigned seating (folding chairs- you may want to bring a pillow). It's well worth it!

142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley has comedy ever Tuesday night hosted by local celeb/comedian Mark Pitta, it is called Mark Pitta & Friends. Mark brings together local comedians, and some very famous comedians to an intimate setting. It's a lot of fun, but ... there are a few "regulars" who have become somewhat annoying.
For a while tickets were available at Goldstarevents.com, however they are no longer available through this medium, and I find the price to be a bit high for not knowing which comedians will be there.
The catering company is a bit high priced too ... five bucks for a brownie ... come on now, there better be some really good stuff in those brownies. Wine is served, and little dishes with cheese, crackers and grapes for a small fortune too. I sometimes forget it's Mill Valley, not San Rafael, or Novato where the normal people live. :-)
In the need for some knee slapping comedy, belly hurting, joyful tears rolling and fall off your seat laughter? then Mark Pitta and Friends on Tues nights is the show you should see at this intimate venue.
A fairly new venue, the Throckmorten is surprisingly flexible in terms of what sort of shows it holds. I've been here several times--for a school play, for Robin Williams' stand up, for a party with a swing band...it's very versatile because every time I go, the space looks different.
So I knew Rob Corrdry was funny from the Daily Show, but his improv comedy group Naked Babies really Kicks It Up a Notch. You know, To The Next Level. They really Go For It. (Okay now I'm blatantly stealing from their act, which involved at one point an extended riff on all these phrases. The whole show was the funniest thing I've seen in a loooong time. Four seriously talented and funny men. Geez I want to invite them all to a dinner party and just say, okay, you talk now.)
But this is a review of the theater- so, thank you Rob Corrdry for giving me and my friends an excuse to get out of SF on a saturday night and over to the Throckmorton in Mill Valley. What a charming theater! We were in the back row and the seats were still great. An intimate and really lovely place. Plus they sell really great cookies in the lobby. And, as one of the guys from Naked Babies pointed out, if you look at the second mural on the right really quickly, it looks like the woman is "smoking a doobie."
Best saturday night trip to the burbs ever.

Went to see Brian Copeland's "Not A Genuine Black Man" this Friday and although we got there a little late and had to sit upstairs, we still had a clear view of the stage. The shows that come thru this venue are first rate and the location is perfect! Mill Valley is an adorable city nestled at the foot of Mount Tam and is a great outlet for artists and musicians. 142 Throckmorton is absolutely beautiful and the prices are extremely reasonable!

Tuesday nites...Mark Pitta & Friends comedy has given me some of the best shows ever! nationally known comics & great known & new locals also add to the mix. Every week for over 2 years this has been the hottest ticket in town. I've also had a few great misic nights there...GE Smith & friends, Also a night of the best finger picking guitarists in America, including Yorma.
Check out this theatre!
a nice venue for small intimate shows. the best view is from the mid-center on the first floor even though the stage looks kinda high. my favorite shows are when the house jacks are in town (housejacks.com)

Given this is my 100th review I waited for a special occasion and it certainly was. I attended a jazz concert by my friend Sony Holland http://www.sonyholland... last night at the 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley. This theatre is 100 years old nestled in the small, quaint downtown area of Mill Valley. Charlie Chaplin, among others performed there back in the day as well as talented artists from around the Bay Area these days.
We walked in where the lobby area was serving beer, wine, champagne and an assortment of delicious little cookie treats. The theatre itself is wonderful. It does house up to 250 people and is furnished with vignettes of bistro table and chair settings which seat 4 along with chairs lined across the back of the theatre each with it's own pillows. The high ceilings were decorated with different colored lighted lanterns all across the area. The stage is very spacious and hosts a cityscape scene background with different lighting effects for each different song. The lighting in the theatre was great not too dark or light but just right. They, as many venues, did not allow photography, video or audio recording so I couldn't get my shots in. The sound is incredible in this theatre. I have seen Sony perform in hundreds of venues in the Bay Area as well as overseas and this place I have to say is in the top 3 for sound. Of course her performance as always was awesome and she brought the house down again with her rendition of "At Last". The crowd loved her and she loved the crowd. It was a fantastic experience.
Also, the staff is so friendly, accommodating and gives the audience that extra personal touch that you normally do not find at venues such as these. Another great thing is that the staff also does promotions for the artists. We were walking around the area earlier and found posters all over advertising Sony's concerts. The local bookstore, chamber of commerce etc... It was really nice to see that.
There's a show there I believe every night and the tickets are $25.00 regular admission and $35.00 reserved. The way it works is for those who bought reserved tickets are let in the door at 7:00 and escorted in the theatre to choose any table they like. The people who bought the $25.00 regular seating tickets are allowed in only after the reserved seats have been filled. However the way the theatre is situated any seat you have would be okay. Of course we were in the front - No where else I'd be.
I thoroughly enjoyed this venue as did all of Sony's other fans. It was fun, comfortable and a fantastic place to hear music or see a performance of any kind. Check out their website.
