I enjoyed a lovely grilled swiss cheese and gouda sandwich and a glass of Malbec. My friend and I sat ourselves at the bar in the center of the restaurant. The bar was intimate, and framed with a modern fire pit. The heat from the flames warmed my hands and face as I sipped the deliciously spicy wine. My sandwich was refined, but comforting; the perfect grown-up grilled cheese. Service was prompt and friendly, and most importantly we never felt rushed. This is the perfect place to spend a cozy evening eating delicious gourmet comfort food.

We spent the evening in Hyde Park, starting off with dinner at the 13th Street Bar and Grill.
It may not be the only place serving new American cuisine, but it's probably the most family friendly. If you're craving upscale yet affordable comfort food and don't have a sitter, I highly recommend it. That said, it isn't filled with screaming children, just a wide variety of clientele contributing to a comfortable buzz inside and out.
It has a great location, and you can seat yourself. Even though it was busy, we had no problem finding a seat inside. They also had plenty of high chairs. Service was prompt and friendly.
We started with calamari for an appetizer. It was a combination of strips and rings, and even the rings were juicy and delicious, not at all rubbery. The breading was nice, too. Light and subtle. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, as well. I had fish and chips. It wasn't my favorite kind of batter but the fish tasted great and the fries were the best I've had in ages.
Of course, the star of the show for me was the Rowdy Kate cocktail I drank with dinner. It's made with North 44 Huckleberry vodka, as well as lemon and berry liquors. It's basically a huckledrop on steroids, and absolutely wonderful.
There's also an extensive wine list, including many local offerings.
I can't wait to go back! -

As with many establishments in Boise the food appears to come off the same sysco truck. Not bad just relatively uninspired. I understand why. It seems like any restaurant that try's to offer food that's above the level is doomed to fail.
Yasmin, Erin and lee do a great job waiting tables and make it worth the visit. Super friendly , nice people. If the rating was based on them it would be 5 stars!
Nice location. Seating indoors and out make it nice wether it's hot or cold. -

Finally! Something comfortable, inviting and unassuming with a decently creative menu that might just STICK in this location.
Since it's opening a couple months ago, I have been to 13th Street 3 different times. Once on the patio in a large group during the day, once for dinner in the evening and once we sat in the bar and ordered just apps and beers.
Before I gave an assesment of 13th Street, I wanted to experience it in a few different ways. The good thing is that you can do just that - experience it in different ways. The inside dining room is more initimate for a nice dinner, while the bar got a bit rowdy (think Bittercreek rowdy, not Roddy's rowdy) and the patio was lovely, not to mention always a great people watching experience in Hyde.
I was impressed they are open from 11am - 2 am every day and hope that works out well for them. It's nice to know I could stay at the same place for lunch, dinner and late drinks and not get booted out until 2 am! (kidding.......)
The menu was comfortably creative with spin offs of foods most are quite familiar with, ie: Prawn Caprese appetizer. This is your typical mozz, roma, basil, balsamic reduction + a grilled prawn on top. So delish!
We also love the first sandwich under the sandwiches section (they don't have a website online where I could look up the name of the sandwich for you)... all I know is the marriage between the succulent shaved turkey breast underneath a bevy of melted brie topped with foccacia bread accompanied by a pesto aioli was a MUST eat on the menu.
Honorable mentions: Mac n Cheese (4 or 5 different cheeses baked into macaroni pasta topped with parmesan crust and herbs - yum-o!), Greek salad (uhmm, who puts roasted red peppers AND sundried tomatoes in a salad? 13th Street does. The vinegarette that comes with it is to die for too).
Not So Hot: Beef skewers (fatty and somewhat tasteless, but the sauce that came with it wasn't bad), fresh cut fries - unless you can reallllllly take the time to do a fresh cut fry WELL, do not attempt. The way potatoes grow and are stored make for a huge hassle when trying to fresh cut potatoes and make them consist year around.
And one question.... where the heck are the sweet potato fries??? I can see them fitting in so well at 13th Street!
Overall, I am impressed and actually have eaten quite a few other things off the menu and had a few beers they had going on tap too. Maybe this weekend I'll update my review, but until then, try it out. There is enough to satisfy just about anyone in your group! -

I think the choice of name is a good analogy for this place...Uninspired.
13th street strives to be another bittercreek and misses the mark. Place had only been open 2 weeks so hopefully they can improve. I had the French dip with the bean/sausage soup. Bread on the dip was very good, the roast beef was a little dry but serviceable. The soup was not good at all. Barely any sausage and had a weird mediciny taste. I think 75% of the items on the menu had some type of aioli, I think they may have gotten a deal from sysco on mayo. The location and patio will keep this place afloat while they (hopefully) work out the menu. -

Ate here for the first time today. The patio is definitely the big draw, especially on this bright and sunny day. The service was good. They kept the diet pepsi's and waters coming. I ordered the chicken sandwich with no expectations whatsoever. While they failed to put the aioli on the side as I had asked, turned out it was just the right amount and tasted good. The sandwich came on a great challah bun, (always good on a Friday just before the sabbath).
The surprise was that the tomotoes were real, the chicken tender, the lettuce crisp, and putting it all together... the sandwich was very tasty and definitely exceeded my expectations.
I will go back. -

I have eaten here 3 times, & the food has never been better than mediocre, if not just plain bad. The bartenders are great, and they have a huge election of everything, but now when we go, we just go for drinks and eat elsewhere.

They passed the Reuben test. Marble rye? Check. Tangy dressing? Check. Kraut? Check. The corned beef was delicious, but a little tough. I had a few embarrassingly big bites during a business lunch.
The shallot salad dressing was nice and sharp.
It was blazing hot out, but we were cold chillin' with our Arnold Palmers on the shady porch. The funky, soul jazz soundtrack on the sound system was inspiring. I would have to say they must be getting their groove on.
My lunch colleagues mentioned that this place is owned by the Parrilla proprietors. Will 13th Street Bar and Grill draw the same crowd that breaks bad in the Parrilla parking lot during happy hour? Perhaps not if the 13th Street Bar's drink prices classify the patrons according to drinking behavior cohorts. Still, it's nice to see that the old western saloon life is alive and well.Listed in: Reubens of Boise

I came here again. I think they deserve an upgrade. I like the happy hour, the staff, and the prices. I haven't had any additional food so I can't comment on that.

Been here a few times and to be honest while it has the best space in Hyde Park, they have the most inconsistent food. I liked my food the first time but the last 3 times I haven't been impressed. They have made silly mistakes (e.g., no X but guess what X is on it). Close to not coming back which is hard b/c I love their atmosphere and alive after 5.

Many restaurants have passed through this great location in Hyde Park, but hopefully 13th St. Bar and Grill is here to stay. The savvy owner of the successful taco bar Parilla, just next door, has branched into full service restaurant-ing. The space has one of the best covered patios in Boise, complemented nicely by a gorgeous stained bar and separate dining room (though the decor could use some work).
The menu offers fairly standard pub food. The steak skewers, on the appetizer menu, are seasoned and cooked to perfection, leaving you wishing for a larger order. The baked mac and cheese with kurobuta ham is deliciously adult in flavor, and tempted me to lick the bowl when I was done. The salads are large and reasonably priced, some coming with a creamy, but subtle, gorgonzola dressing. The bar has an extensive beer list, catering to the micro-brew crowd, and a friendly, helpful staff for the clueless imbibers.
So hop on your bike and head down the 13th St. for a lovely dinner on a lively patio. If nothing else, you'll enjoy the people watching while supporting a local business! -

The 13th Street Grill has great food! The service is amazing! If you are in Hyde Park, I would recommend stopping by. My only complaint is they should bring back Mac & Jack beer and mash potatoes.

A dank draft beer selection, complemented by very solid bar food, including home-made hummus, peanut tofu appetizer and Asian salad entree.

I have ate hear twice now. Both times the food and service was great. First time I tried the French Dip. It was really Good. And the second time I had the Rib Eye and that was the bomb.. A lot of people have compared this to Bitter Creek which makes no sense to me. I prefer this place for atmosphere and it has more items on the menu that I prefer.

I have eaten there a few times now and the food seems to be descent. However, the service has been atrocious every time. It takes a minimum of an hour to eat there - every time!
Improve the service and you'll have my business... -

We went there last Sunday for lunch on the patio. The service was great but we were dissapointed by the prices charged on wine. The glasses were smaller than normal and the prices were really high. I saw the same BOTTLE of wine in the grocery store for $6.99 and they were charging $8.50 PER GLASS. Not good. We had planned on spending a couple hours there having lunch, ordering a few glasses of wine, but after the first tiny glass arrived, we asked for our bill and headed over to Smoky Mountain on State st. Prices there were about 30-40% less on wine and the food was much more reasonable too.

Brian D took my thoughts and wrote them all down already, but I'll add some.
PLEASE give everyone an explanation as to why in the world you would name your place the 13th st Pub and Grill when the Hyde Park Pub and Grill has been a block away for years. Is this a direct FU to those guys? Seriously, why?
Anyway, my wife really wanted to check out the "Grand Opening", so we went and checked it out. The big sign over the door said, "Grand Opening Food and Drink Specials." When I asked the waitress what the grand opening specials were, she told me there were none, "but it is happy hour." We looked over the menu and decided that the wife should drink her already ordered beer and we should get the hell out of there. Why would we pay the same price for a menu copied almost exactly from Bittercreek Ale House (without the quality ingredients) from a place that copied it's name from a block away? There was a band setting up in the back parking area and some BBq's back there. When I asked the unfriendly bouncer what kind of food they had back there, he told me hot dogs and hamburgers. Ummm, really. Parilla owner dude, get your first restaurant's food to safety standards before copying everyone else's ideas in town and spreading yourself thinner. -

I drive by this place every day on my way to work and I finally stopped by to try it. The atmosphere is beautiful and I love the fire pit counter. The food was great and perfect lunch prices. The staff was really friendly and accommodating to my 9 month old. I plan on going back over and over again! The veggie burger is GREAT!

Interesting menu w/ great food and prices. Intriguing cocktail list w/ horrendously expensive cocktail/beer prices! Overall an outstanding place to eat, assuming you've got your drink on before dining.

Boise City, ID
It's a pretty good addition to the 13th street scene.
I've enjoyed some of the food here, some not so much. The cod and chips? Heavy and overcooked. The turkey and brie sandwich? Wonderful. The mushroom risotto is good, but there's too much of the same thing on the plate with no other item to break the monotony. Portions are large; if that's important to you, you won't go away hungry.
Service is uneven - The restaurant is "seat yourself" and you won't get a glance from the staff until your butt is in their section. Out of 5 visits, we've had one good, attentive, professional server and all the other times we've had to beg for a secoond glass of wine or drink refills or for vinegar for the fish and chips from wait staff with amazing tunnel vision.
Indoors, there are 3 TV screens tuned to ESPN games. Outdoors, you might be halfway through your meal just when a guitar player sets up and cranks his amp so that your dinner conversation is over.
