I was on crutches several months ago and was unable to stand long enough to wash my own hair.
I went in to see a stylist for a simple wash/style (I won't name names because I think stylist is good with other people but I was SOOOO disappointed). Stylist was running late and I waited patiently. Stylist started to wash my hair, and then admitted he didn't know what to do with it. I am black and I have a TON of hair, but I thought a simple wash/style should be no problem for Stylist with such a great reputation. I almost started to cry, but stylist proceeded.
Stylist constantly asked me questions about HOW to do my own hair. When stylist was finally finished my hair looked great, but it felt like straw. Even though I told stylist to put a lot of product in my hair, stylist didn't listen.
To put the icing on the cake, the receptionist charged me $20 more than quoted because 'it took so much longer.' I was insulted and disappointed and will never return to the salon again.
I went to 1313 when I was unable to see my normal stylist. Amanda H did a great job and really listened to what I wanted as it was our first cut together. She is friendly and professional and very easy to chat with. I liked the salon and got to enjoy a cold beer when I was there. I have to admit that was a surprise and a cool feature of the salon.(thus the five star rating) I would highly recommend Amanda to anyone and suggest you look her up if your in Boulder and in need of a cut.
My stylist was always late (the 2 different times I went) and did not listen to me when I specifically stated that I only wanted a trim. I don't need someone telling me my hair is too long (I like it that way) and I don't need to be criticized when I'm upset. I will never go back again ever! I literally cried because my hair was such a disaster!
If you live in Boulder, you will undoubtedly see 1313 on the pass-by and say to yourself, "why all the 13's? Isn't 13 bad luck?" While I cannot answer such assertive and thoughtful questions, I can tell you that 1313 is the place for quick wax or for maintenance on those dreadful acrylics you wear. A little pricey, but you DO need to wax, ladies--your lip, brow...and whatever else you may....have. So bad luck it because its lucky if you choose the 1313 and it doesn't choose you. Also two 13's cancel each other.
