I've gone to 1300 a few times and I love the ambiance and the food. My friend used to work here so we get the best recommendations.
It feels like an old time jazz club. Get the fried chicken. You'll be happy and thank me that you did. If there are hush puppies on the menu, get those, they're pretty amazing. If not, try the truffled mac and cheese which is also delicious.1 Previous Review: Show all »

1300 on Fillmore, located next to Yoshi's Jazz Club and Lounge, offers a refreshing contrast of Southern soul food in the heart of Pacific Height's Japan/K-town. The restaurant itself presents itself as a gourmet restaurant with a casual/lounge atmosphere, somewhat similar to Yoshi's. I thought the decorum of the restaurant was quite elegant; my only suggestion is that the lighting could be brighter because the entire time I felt like I was eating with just a candlelight.
Their menu seems mostly consistent, in that most of the suggestions us yelpers mention will be on the menu. Our group shared the Bourbon hickory-smoked pork belly and roasted brussel sprouts. Although I didn't have the pork belly, the bourbon flavors came through well in the braised butter beans that accompanied it. I particularly enjoyed the combination of the flavors that the egg yolk provided.
The brussel sprouts were cooked well but was lacking in flavor, so if you decide to get a side, I would recommend the truffle oil mac and cheese.
Overall, the entrees were delicious, with large portions per order. Think Cheesecake Factory portions, which were good for sharing. My friends were very impressed with the the black skillet fried chicken and catfish with jambalaya; both were packed with flavor and cooked to tender perfection. The braised beef short rib was equally tender but could have been cooked for less because it was a little dry. Initially I planned on ordering the bay scallops but they had ran out, since our reservation was at 9; so I had the butternut squash risotto instead...which was quite disappointing. The sweetness of the butternut squash puree was clean but its texture masked the risotto's. In the end, I felt like I was just eating squash puree which isn't particularly appealing.
Overall, 1300 on Fillmore is an enjoyable restaurant for offering a gourmet, elegant menu of American Southern comfort foods; but is not fine dining or extremely phenomenal to the extent which it is a must-go-to place in SF. Depending on your tastes, you will either really like it or find it mediocre. Since I like soul food, every now and then, I thought it was quite good. -

Came here in a group of 8 for a friend's birthday and had a pretty good experience!
1300 on Fillmore has a really nice lounge area, where you can have drinks if you aren't dining at their restaurant, or have a drink while waiting for your friends. I got their pomegranate mojito which was yummy.
For dinner, I ordered the beef short rib and their truffle mac and cheese. Their beef short rib was VERY tender and juicy - I was pleasantly surprised! About 4 of us at the table ordered this dish and everyone agreed that it was good. For the mac and cheese, it arrived at room temperature, so we sent it back. They were very gracious and made us a new batch that came back steaming hot. I would say skip on the mac and cheese though - it wasn't that flavorful/as cheesy as I would've liked.
About 3 people ordered the fried chicken. I'm generally not a fan of fried chicken, so i'm not one to comment on this, but those that ordered it said it was juicy and tasty.
Would come back again! -

The lounge at 1300 on Filmore is a great place for drinks, bites, and conversation. I came here for a post-event happy hour and had a good time.
Between glasses of gin & tonics, I noshed on some pretty delicious bites. The shrimp hushpuppies are truly exceptional. Fresh, plump, and succluent shrimp encased within a moist hushpuppy. Delicious and super convinient to eat. The fried chicken sticks with the blue cheese dip were also really enjoyable. I mean what's not to love about fried chicken, and a crispy-fried-but-moist-on-the-inside one at that. Plus it's on a stick so again really easy to eat as you engage in conversation. The braised beef short rib sliders and fries are pretty decent and yummy too.
1300 on Fillmore is a sophisticated but comfortable space with attentive and friendly service. I'lll have to come back for dinner some time but I definitely reconmend the lounge for happy hour in the area. -

Found this place based on yelp reviews, my husband and I were in SF for a short vacation and our original restaurant choice fell through.
It was a fantastic experience. It began with a super friendly phone call when making the reservation, our waiter was so friendly and welcoming, the bus staff was attentive with out interrupting us... And the food was amazing! We shared 2 appetizers, 1- shrimp and grits and 2- pork belly, both were plate cleaning good. We both decided on the fried chicken for dinner, and it did not disappoint. My husband has a big appetite and he still left a little on the plate. Service to me, makes or breaks a dining out experience, and it was top notch. I would recommend and go back the next time I'm in SF -

I had an AWESOME dinner at 1300 with my parents' approval (and they are seriously picky "foodies") I am also picky---especially about fried chicken. Theirs is just perfect to me. Crispy, juicy chicken with the perfect seasoning. I also really love the atmosphere. There's live music in the lounge and the mood is always lively. Now I've done the trifecta.....had a date in the lounge while live jazz played. Did the Gospel Brunch one Sunday with a few friends, and then dinner with the fam most recently. The gal behind the bar took excellent care of my parents and I (Nicki?) which impressed me as it was extremely busy.
This has become one of my favorite spots in the city. -

Seriously Yelpers, this place was really really disappointing. Like most of the yelpers who wanted to give this place more than 3 stars, i can totally relate why they couldn't bring themselves to giving this place more stars.
First of all the two stars are mainly for the decor, and the large thick cut friends and yummy house ketchup. Not even taking into consideration the poor parking availability and the fact that the wait staff kept asking us every 15 mins if we were done with our food...when clearly there were still quite a big on our plates!
For my b-day, my friend and i decided to come here for some good ole' comforting southern food. i mean how can some fried chicken and mash potatoes go wrong?
We started with the mussels appetizer and gnocchi with ox tail. The mussels were pretty good, the sauce it was cooked in was a bit tart, but it had an interesting zing to it. The gnocchi oxtail however tasted like random ingredients thrown together. The flavors of the dish did not complement each other at all. So in this dish, there was the bland oxtail, bland gnocchi, overly sweet grilled shallots or baby onion that i popped into my mouth thinking it was a gnocchi and shredded mushrooms? It was a plate of confusion and i swear my taste buds did flips of disdain from this dish...way too much going on for an appetizer.
The fried chicken, main course...was really really upsetting. So did not taste freshly fried. Tasted more like they fried it half a day ago and just threw it in the microwave to heat it up...it was extremely disappointing. KFC's chicken taste better than this. it was just sorely disappointing.
The huge fries and house ketchup was the only good thing. The mashed potatoes tasted like something i can make at home. the Mac and cheese sharp cheddar, don't get me started! tasted like watered down mayonnaise! overall the food was really disappointing.
For dessert, we had the pineapple bread pudding. it was ok.
I've had mediocre soulfood, but this was OVERPRICED and overrated Foulfood, and so not worth the $100 we spent on dinner. i originally had it at two stars but now i had to change it back to one star......overall, never again. had a bad experience with the food, and service was ok. -

I wanted this place to rule, soo much. Alas, my friends and I should have stuck with our usual Southern/Soul Food restaurant of choice that is Farmerbrown for our double date.
The drinks were great (and they have an extensive list) I had the Key Lime Pie, but liked my friend's Pear Flower much better. We started with the truffle mac&cheese and fries as appetizers. The mac&cheese left MUCH to be desired, like some actual cheese! Fries were the thick, steak cut style but since my Irishman liked em, who's to argue with an Irishman and potatoes? House ketchup was great though.
I ordered their friend chicken, soo good! A hefty portion too, I only ate about half and let everyone else pick at it. My friend got their burger which was pretty tasty, but came with this relish/sauce thing that seemed overly sweet to go with a burger. Her date and mine both ordered the short ribs...AVOID! To quote my date "It's the most expensive thing on the menu, and the smallest portion!" And bland too!! Imagine a mound of short ribs, the size of a tangerine.
Our waiter (whose name I don't remember) was incredibly attentive and accommodating, took one of the short ribs off our bill when we said how underwhelming they were. For 4 people with drinks, apps, and no dessert it was about $150. -

After receiving a gift card for 1300 on Fillmore, my boyfriend and I put it on our radar for our Christmas dinner. We arrived a bit early and waited at the bar until our table was ready. I was immediately in love with the ambiance -- very old school and swanky with a great cocktail list. We had already taken a peek at the menu before arriving so we definitely had a good idea of what we were leaning towards before we arrived. Our service was great -- our waiter was exceptional: attentive (but not overly so) and definitely gave us some guidance when we were trying to decide between dishes.
We ended up ordering the shrimp & grits along with the mussels to start and both were amazing. Without a doubt, I would order both of those again. Our entrees were great, too. I ordered the blackened catfish with shrimp jambalaya and was definitely happy with my order. In all honesty, I find their starter options to be the real stars. I would love to go back and have a meal of JUST appetizers (that is socially acceptable, right?) with drinks. In fact, there's a good likelihood that that will happen. They also have a gospel brunch on Sundays that might be on my radar for this year! Side note for foursquare users: first check-in gets you 50% off a specialty cocktail.
For ladies who are wondering about attire (I know I always wonder what's appropriate): if you're someone that likes to dress up, you can totally get dressed up if it's a special occasion (or if you're like me and just like getting dolled up sometimes). If you're on the opposite end of the spectrum, you'll fit in just fine wearing dark denim and a cute top! -

After a special event nearby, I had the greatest evening at the bar of 1300 On Fillmore with a wonderful and brilliant bartender named Nikki. She was holding it down, working the bar, the lounge, and serving us all her favorites from the menu (and one of us is a vegetarian!). She is so entertaining and fun to be with, that we stayed a lot longer than we had planned. In the midst of all this, a sea of beautiful Black men arrived in suits and enjoyed the ambiance of the lounge. Great night all together and will return many times. Food and drinks amazing. Thank you.

Typical, "upscale" hipster SF restaurant that is outrageously overpriced and the only reason it deserves two stars is the service! Other than that, the front door person was an ass hole and told us I couldn't bring in my "outside beverage and had to throw it away and could give it him before coming in at all." I was appalled. It was a cup of coffee! Both my husband and I were disappointed with our meals which were the risotto and burger. My father got the risotto as well and felt the same as myself, which was the portion left us hungry afterwards and it was terribly under-seasoned. I generally believe this establishment needs some serious alterations to either the cooks, the recipes or BOTH.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT TO LOVE THIS PLACE. I actually do...just not the food :( service 5 stars, jazz art wall 5 stars (one of my favorite walls), music 5 stars, food *pause* maybe 1 star....maybe it was an off night for them because I've been here before and the food was delicious...granted that was over a year ago :(...

Of all the times I've been to Yoshis (right next door) I've never noticed 1300, until one night. Well actually I didn't notice it a friend of mines did.
So after the show we decided to go and have a bite to eat with a night cap.
I had the bbq shrimp and grits. Followed up with the Pear Flower cocktail (Grey Goose La Poire, St. Germain, Fresh Grapefruit and Lemon juice). Everything was excellent! No complaints....wait with the exception that it was extremely dark inside. I literally had to use the flashlight on my cell phone to read the menu. Aside from that everything was great, even the band they had playing in the lounge area. I even caught the former Mayor Willie Brown, dancing out the door. Looked like he had a good time here as well!
Think this will be my go to spot after concerts at Yoshis! -

A night out!
Live Jazz band at the lounge/bar area!
Blacked Skillet Catfish - Not so sure about this one. Yes, the seasoning was good, but I felt like the fish was a bit over cooked. It was served over Gumbo, but I wasn't in love.
Pork Chop - This was good. I might have it again.
BBQ Shrimp & Grits - Now, this appetizer dish is a must try!
Fries - Nothing crazy.
Brussels Sprouts - I actually like veggies, so I really liked the way this was sauteed.
I had a few drinks over dinner and had a glass of wine at the bar while listening to beautiful jazz music, which made my night! -

I initially visited 1300 Fillmore for my 40th birthday celebration, only having a chance to sample the appetizers and finally made it back for a full meal.
Reservations were made via OpenTable for 8:30pm. Partner and I arrived 30 minutes early on a Saturday evening and were seated at a great table with perfect views of the chocolate colored dining room. Service came in the form of a very well groomed young man with just the right amount of attentiveness to not annoy, but meet our needs. Our small plates, Barbeque Shrimp w/ Grits and Mussels in Dijon vinaigrette were yummy, with portions large enough to satisfy if not overly hungry. Our entrees, Blackened Catfish over a bed of seasoned rice and Boneless Spare-Ribs (think mini-post roast cooked to perfection that fell apart as you cut into it, drizzled with a sauce of tangy sweetness) on a bed of collards and mashed potatoes were both flavorful and filling. In point of fact, you'll need to bring your appetite, or expect a doggie bag afterwards as the portions are large. We topped our meal off with a shared sorbet that was adequate.
My only nit is that the dining room was a bit loud, so be prepared to lean in a little during conversation. All in all, a pleasant dining experience at almost exactly $100 bucks for two. -

I have had dinner many times at this lovely restaurant. The fried chicken and the fish are always amazing, but I recently stopped by for desert and drinks and fell in love. The bignets with dark chocolate center was orgasmic. I felt like I was transported to New Orleans.
We went by for a drink on New Years Eve and were pleasantly surprised by a live band and New Years festivities for free. Free in San Francisco. Unbelievable. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent food, great choices and awesome drinks and to die for desserts. You never know... they may have a live ban. It has been known to happen -

I have been here twice and it has been really on point both times. Really great and unique food (uniqueness, in my book, is a key criteria for getting that fifth star). On Fridays they have an amazing live band called Hot Pocket. Everything about this place is pretty great. Value for the money. Quality of food. Atmosphere. Our waiter last time was pretty spacey but thats a pretty forgivable sin at this price point.

I came here for an "anniversary" of sorts and it was very unique! this place is fitting for both large groups or intimate dates... will accommodate both types of parties in a semi-upscale environment.
We ordered the following:
1. cauliflower soup - 3 stars
2. bourbon hickory smoked pork belly and egg - 3 stars
3. mac n cheese - 3 stars
4. beef short ribs - 4 stars
5. sage butternut squash risotto - 2 stars
Overall an inconsistent food dining experience but the environment is great and the service is terrific! I think their stronger point is the meat over their veggie dishes. They gave us a complimentary dessert that had written in chocolate "Happy Anniversary" which was a nice gesture by the restaurant.
Overall, perhaps this is a better place to grab drinks before heading to Yoshi's for the night over dining experience?
They have a cool room in the back for the lounge/drink area... Looks fun! -

Our Bartender Nikki was cool to hang out with. Dinner and Ambiance was good. I liked the Chef/Owner coming out to greet people.
Snap-shots, and video stills dipicting scenes from the Fillmore's Jazz/Bop hey-day.
We haven't tried the "Gospel Brunch" yet, but being that this place is so "quaint" I don't see how they could really pull off such a thing. -

I've been here a few times before and the quality of the food and service was always something to keep me wanting to comeback. Sadly, last night's experience was far from what I'd expect from a fine dining establishment.
The meal started off good. The poached egg salad was perfectly cooked and everything I'd come to expect from 1300.
It's when we got to the entrees that it went downhill. The short rib was not the usual bone in cut. Actually, there was no bone to be found which means all that good flavor you get from cooking it with the bone and marrow was absent. The result was a "short rib" that was dry as a bone.
The pork chop came out harder than concrete and we couldn't even saw through it to cut off a piece much less chew it. This is the first time in years where we've had no choice but to send something back. But for an entree that cost $27 we wanted to be able to eat it. While one of us was finishing off the Sahara short rib the other waited for a new pork chop. No consideration was taken by the wait staff or management to make things right or compensate us for our inconvenience.
I guess the icing on the cake was the lukewarm Mac n' cheese. Not very appetizing when served at room temperature.
I understand restaurants sometimes have an off night. Maybe thats what last night was. But with so many great restaurants in the city I'd think that obvious mistakes would be fixed by such an upscale restaurant. Sadly, fine dining was not how I would sum up last nights 1300 experience. -

The ambiance of this place is really nice - and the appetizers and entrées were all pretty decent, but nothing really stood out. Soul food, fried chicken, hush puppies. I've heard the Gospel brunch is supposed to be pretty solid.
Too many other good places in SF, so probably won't come back here, though I've heard the Gospel brunch is supposed to be pretty solid. -

This is my scene.
Love the lights that illuminate all the photos on the wall, dig the music, service was friendly, and the drinks were absolutely fantastic.
There is a lounge area where you can kick back and relax with your friends and take your time.
There's also the main dining area.
We will definitely be back. -

Family decided not to cook for Thanksgiving so we ended up at 1300 on Fillmore. They had a "special" Thanksgiving menu which means limited choices and high prices. Had a reservation and was seated right away.
Had to wait a little for menus, water and cornbread. We had 7 people so got to try just about everything on the menu. Salmon, Short RIbs and of course Turkey. Appetizers were good, including a soup and salad.
Salmon was good, daughter ate it all (she usually doesnt). Short RIbs were good as well. Turkey was meh. Pretty good, but not 15x better than the $4 turkey dinner I had at the Chinatown Y 3 nights before.
Desserts were good as well. Overall, the food wasn't bad. Service OK. If it wasn't for the inflated Thanksgiving prices, they might have scored 4 stars, with the prices, its a 3. -
Review from Esther A.
1300 On Fillmore had been bookmarked for some time. So I was pretty excited when I was going through Savored and saw them available the evening and time slot I was looking into. Most of the other restaurants on the site were ones I was not interested in trying or ones I was not interested in returning to.
So we go and ordered the following:
-Fried Green Tomato Salad, Warm Panko-Herb Crusted Chevre Goat Cheese, Lavender-Honey Vinaigrette
-White Corn & Sweet Pea Risotto, Chefs Mix Mushrooms, Wilted Greens, Tomato Marmalade
-The day's porkchop special which accompanied a side of white truffled mac + white cheddar cheese
Unfortunately the one thing that sticks in my memory big time about our dining experience with 1300 is not the meal, the nice modern (but slightly bland) loungey decor or the so-so service but something that happened toward the end of the night. On our way home about a mile away from the restaurant I received a call from the host telling me (not even asking if) I took BOTH copies of the receipt and that they needed me to come back and re-sign it. I was caught off guard because I remember CLEARLY signing the merchant copy and putting it back on the right hand flap of the leather pocket of the bill fold. While on the phone I even checked my purse told them I only had the "customer copy" in my possession and not the "restaurant copy". But we drove back to the restaurant anyway. I'm sure they dropped it somehow when they picked up the bill when clearing out our table but of course would never admit to later finding it which I'm 100% sure they did.
That experience alone puts a bitter taste in my mouth about 1300 Fillmore. -

Went here with a group of friends. Had a reservation, part of our party was late. They were able to hold the table for us while we got drinks at the bar.
I thought the food was okay. I got the catfish, which was seasoned well, but I didn't necessarily think the rice with what tasted like hot dogs was an amazing combination.
The service was decent, everything came around the same time. The waiter was a bit weird, he kept saying, "I will take care of that for you." It was as if our group had complained or he needed to get a favor done for us...
BUT they do have a Foursquare deal where you get 50% off your drinks if you check in, DO IT!! They have a super cutie bar. :) -

I had the pleasure of choosing the restaurant for my younger sisters special 21st birthday this past August. An easy choice for me was 1300..
Upon walking in, you notice the dining room to your right, but it's the lounge that is definitely a sight to see. The floor to ceiling collage of pictures from the Jazz era in the Fillmore to historic neighborhood pix of Japantown definitely bring you back to a time of great nostalgia. We spent some time admiring the pictures in the lounge before being seated for dinner. This was fine because we had reservations for 5:30pm anyway.
We were seated on the banquette seating area near the window. I enjoyed our table, it was spacious and comfortable. And definitely enough spacing between the surrounding tables. The sofa-like seating as booths were so soft, my folks were literally sitting like they were in our living room at home. There were moments we had to remind they were were dining in a public place, and that they needed to mind their manners. It was quite entertaining. I wouldn't recommend shorter people to sit on the sofa seats because you definitely get sunk into the seats, thus making a bit difficult to actually eat.
Our server was so pleasant, and very knowledgeable. And he even charmed my sister to make sure she was 21 for her first drink order! So cute!
As for dinner, I have to say that all of our dishes were perfectly cooked, portion of sides to the main item was perfect, accompanied sauces on the plate were good enough to lick after.
Their house cornbread was delish, and needless to say we were graciously given another plate of seconds. Fluffy texture, and loved the sweet little tangy sauce on the side.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
We started off with the Sweet Corn Bisque, Crème Fraîche, Chive Infused Olive Oil. YUM, great way to start off the meal, with this creamy textured bisque. The sweet corn flavor was so light on the palate that it left me wanting another bowl.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Entrees, we ordered a little bit of everything, and of course we had to go for their much talked about Black Skillet Fried Chicken.
Chicken was lightly battered and retained crisp-ness throughout. The meat was perfectly moist, and there were decent pieces of white and dark meat. Definitely lived up to expectations, and would totally order again.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I ordered the Grilled House Cured Pork Chop, Smoked Gouda Anson Mills Grits, Pickled Peach Compote. Pork was cooked medium, and to my request. The sauce was definitely a very important factor to the dish...while it was delish, I couldn't quite make out the peach compote. It was sweet, but not as defined as I had hoped.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
As for our other dishes, we ordered the Crispy Skin King Salmon, Sweet Potato Risotto, Swiss Chard, Red Wine Glaze and the
Maple Syrup Braised Boneless Beef Short Rib, Crispy Onion Rings and Fresh Horse-Radish-Chive Mashed Potatoes. Both were killed by my family members, so I can safely say they pretty much enjoyed their dishes.
I also ordered a side of the White Truffle Mac n Cheese. This was a bit of a disappointment as my noodles seemed a little over cooked. The top of the order was flavorful, but seemed to be lacking in the middle and bottom of the bowl. I would've liked the flavor to be consistent throughout the entire bowl.

Overall, very enjoyable dinner with the family. Each and every dish had very distinct flavor combinations, and our meat entrees were all cooked perfectly. Great way to celebrate. -

Way too expensive for what we got - period, especially considering that we ate in the lounge. Music more annoying than enjoying. I had a salad that would easily fit in the palm of my hand and a few fried shrimp. My date had a couple of greasy sliders and a handful of greens. We had 2 beers and 2 glasses of ok wine. Total equaled $95 before tip. We left hungry and won't be going back. There are too many good restaurants in the city to settle for this.

This food was good, but not AH-Mazingggg.
My aunt constantly raves about this upscale soul food restaurant. After looking at the prices, I said to myself, "I will def. jump on one of those day deals if i ever find one for this place" And sure enough, Bloomspot was offering 30% off!
I took my mom out her for her bday and we tried the
Anson Mills Stone Ground Hominy Grit, Black Skillet Roasted Catfish, and Beignets. The best dish that night were the grits. I loved the mushrooms and the creamy sauce that the grits were drenched in. Sounds pretty fattening..and yes it probably was. The catfish, on the other hand, was something I didn't care for too much. Yes, it was good, but not $22 good. The beignets were a HUGE disappointment. They weren't fluffy enough and it tasted more cakey if anything. -

After my second wonderful visit to 1300 I had to write about this spot. Whether you go for a romantic dinner date, a night out with the girls (or boys), or a drink after a Yoshi's show (a few doors down), this supper club will set the stage for a great evening. There's been live music both times I went, a very friendly staff, great ambience and an amazing menu.
Ambience first: The decor is dark, black and earth-toned and minimalist. Some seating feels very lounge-like and cozy, with big black stuffed chairs around small tables. Most seating offers street views so you get entertainment not only from the live music (old school jazz one night with a four-piece ensemble and fun R&B and Hip Pop covers for NYE) but from passersby.
The food: Oh my lord. Just slap me now! The food is delicious. Soul food meets French haute cuisine. There's a lounge menu, dinner menu and a Sunday gospel brunch menu. Here are a few items from the three to give an idea: Fresh Water Shrimp Hushpuppies; Sautéed Wild Mushrooms with Spring Herbs Mascarpone Yellow Hominy Grits; Black Skillet Roasted Catfish, Andouille Sausage, Shrimp Jambalaya, Cornbread Panzanella Salad; Lemongrass-Ginger House Cured Salmon, Cornmeal Pancake, Molasses Glaze, Chive Crème Fraîche. And I would sell my own mother for the warm chocolate beignets.
The menu is kept fresh by Executive Chef/Owner David Lawrence whom I met New Years. Along with his entire staff, David was friendly and inviting. I felt like a very welcomed guest. -

I had an enjoyable evening at 1300 on Fillmore. The ambiance is lush and a little formal, and I thought it was a nice change from the typical SF eclectic restaurant style. We sat in the dining room, which is very quiet even with several tables filled, and the lounge looked comfortable with the same dark, lush look. The waitstaff were great, made us feel taken care of. The wine list (by the glass) seemed to be priced about right, and for my level of wine-drinker, I was very satisfied. All California wines so far as I could tell, and the two we ordered turned out to be good selections.
The food had its high points, but was inconsistent. I will say that the pork belly starter was lovely, perfectly cooked fried duck egg with butter beans and a good sized portion of pork belly. They let the flavors speak for themselves in this dish and it's perfect, kind of rich and primitive tasting. Freshwater shrimp hush-puppies were also good, fried pefectly in a light batter and paired with a tasty sauce that could have had a little more kick for my palate. The cornbread was excellent, served with the awesomest jalapeno catsup. I wouldn't mind some catsup to take home.
Things went downhill somewhat with the main course. The boneless fried chicken half was too salty for me, particularly the thigh. The breast was more tolerable and would have been very good except for the saltiness. It came with mashed potatoes that could have used something, some garlic or mustard or something. The portion was enormous. Two of us couldn't finish it. I was basically stuffed, but I always feel so cheated if I don't order dessert, so I went for the chocolate filled beignets with chocolate sauce and some kind of coffee flavored sauce that was almost like a pudding, I forget now what they called it. The coffee stuff was weird and not in a way that made you want to eat more. The chocolate sauce lacked richness for me. The beignet was kind of overly solid and lacked lightness. A definite disappointment.
Although it was a nice night, I'll probably be shopping around a bit the next time I want to get some high-end soul food. For this town, the food, although there were highlights, just wasn't quite good enough considering the prices at this spot. We had the http://savored.com discount, which I recommend if you're interested in visiting 1300. -

Dude yelpers, you have all deceived me! This one star is only for the service. Our server/waitress was very patient and calm with our rowdy table of 8 ladies buzzin off cocktails and wine. But the food was a disaster!! all way over priced and not delicious.y'all need to work on your seasoning technique, and portion size. I ordered the crispy skin king salmon dish, and i think it literally had 2 tablespoons of sweet potato risotto. Sorry, you know when food is the bomb when you say "mmmm" and not one person said that at our table. and the white truffle mac and cheese, I've had better mac and cheese from a box , seriously overrated.
the ambience was fabulous, and you kind of feel like your encouraged to use your library voice. i think the only thing i liked was the cornbread and the service. we are most definitely not coming back here, nor am i suggesting this restaurant to anyone. -

I love this place. The ambiance, the drinks, the food...my kind of place.
This last time I was there, my husband and I brought his parents. They loved it. First off, the drinks are the bomb. My favorite is the Jazzberry Martini. Unlike many places, these folks actually put a good dose of alcohol in their drinks. Nice. The food is simply delicious. My husband had the rib eye, I had the catfish, my mother in law had the shrimp and grits and my father in law had the baby back ribs. All of us enjoyed every bite! Usually one of two of us has some kind of complaint but we had none. Personally, I thought the catfish was perfectly seasoned. And it's served over jambalaya rice - how good is that? I really didn't think anything could top that meal until we decided to try dessert. Warm Chocolate Beignets. Oh. My. God. And they serve them with this odd coffee soda (foam), but it's the perfect accompaniment! Absolute heaven. As much as I enjoyed the food at Yoshi's, I will be coming back here for our after show meal. -

+ Great Date Restaurant - plush seats, 1940s style inside, classy bar - creates a great ambiance for a night out with a small group of friends or a date restaurant
+ Drinks: loved my Feistry Blood Orange martini
Food: I don't think it's very memorable. I liked the chicken and ribs, but it wasn't anything to "ooo" or "aww" over. Chicken liver pate to start with was decent, but the candied bacon tasted like dried out bacon (Sad because I love my pate AND bacon).
+ Dessert - Loved, loved the cobbler. yum yum, want more of this! The ice cream was so-so, tasted like dryers.
Overall: I think the price point is a little high for this restaurant ($110 for two people). However, we booked through savored and got 30% off our bill. ( Link to Savored: http://svrd.co/q5i3Xa ) -

I feel like I have to write a review for 1300 Fillmore as it's not often that I am in physical pain after a "nice" meal.
The two stars are for ambiance-- I thought it was a really well decorated/ swanky restaurant and bar.
HOWEVER, I had the Kaffir Lime Gimlet, a beet salad and the trout on Saturday night and before I even left the restaurant I had really horrible heartburn. I have maybe had heartburn once before in my life, so something at dinner triggered it -- I suspect the overly sour, weak gimlet.
Either way, like many others have mentioned, the food was nothing special and thus over priced for you're getting. My husband had the short rib with horseradish & chive mashed potatoes but there was not even a hint of horseradish. And, despite a good portion size, the potatoes were also really starchy, like someone forgot the milk/ cream. The cornbread was supposed to be a highlight according to our server but even it tasted like I added water to some mix and made it at home.
I was pretty disappointed and in pain when I left... bummer. -

Came back last night after our first failed attempt at using an opentable deal on a blocked out day. Went with the tomato salad, short rib, and peach cobbler and wasn't as impressed as the first trip here.
The tomato salad was ok...it came with the set menu, so I can't really judge this, as I'm not a huge fan of tomatoes.
The short rib really was disappointing. I feel that braised short ribs are slam dunk entrees at any restaurant where having expectations of super tender, slightly fatty, really savory, and generally amazing piece of meat isn't farfetched. The short rib here was a little bit dry, lacked taste, and wasn't as fatty/savory as I hoped. The mashed potatoes on the side were spot on though.
The peach cobbler was decent, but maybe my disappointment with the short rib tainted my dessert craving.
The service was still spot on and the ambiance was great as expected, but the food fell short this time around.1 Previous Review: Show all »

We did a yelp special for dinner for two. More about Yelp later. The restaurant was really pretty with very interesting lighting.
I didn't realize the Yelp special was for a prix-fixe dinner. My mistake and I owned it. There were very limited choices for dinner with this really shitty Yelp special. One salad choice, two entree choices, one dessert choice...none of which I wanted.
I asked the waiter if we could may more money to order off the regular menu. Or could they just apply the cost of the certificate to our dinner...how could we work this out so they made money and we got to eat a meal we wanted. He was nice and was sympathetic, especially since I said the mistake was mine. He said he would ask the manager to step over.
She couldn't be bothered to talk to us and said via the waiter there was nothing she could do. We would just have to eat the prix-fixe or throw it away (we paid $81 for it) and order off the menu. So we ate the prix-fixe...or I should say we ordered it and took a few bites of what was not very good food.
The salad was very sweet and no where near as good as I could have made at home. Minimal goat cheese. The entree was really fatty and not well seasoned. I skipped the dessert but my companion said it was not much to talk about.
The glass of wine that came with the meal was some brand I have never heard of. We googled the wine and found the price was $2.81 for a 750 ml bottle. You could have put it on pancakes. We didn't drink that either.
So for the meal we paid for but didn't eat we were out over $100 by the time we tipped our nice guy waiter.
So fellow Yelpers. Yelp makes a killing off deals like this. Apparently the restaurant sends the coupon to Yelp and is reimbursed a much smaller amount as yelp keeps a bunch of the money. Yelp, you pretty much suck in my book and I will never again buy anything from you. Ditto for this restaurant. The only reason it got a second star was the waiter. -

the food is hit or miss. the fried chicken tends to be a bit saltier more often than not, however, the cornbread starter is delicious. the wine list is wonderful and the ambiance is a very cool darkly lit, pricey bar/lounge feel. great space for dinner, plus an additional room for large group dinners is very nice - but keep the doors open for the ambiance of 1300.
overall, very pleased!
