Portland, OR
Holy yummy hangover food.
We were visiting a friend up here and had ourselves a wild night on the town. Definitely felt it the next day and was dying for some carb-licious hangover grub.
Enter: Biscuits and gravy.
Not as much gravy as I would have liked, but it was definitely one of the best I've had. Hashbrowns were amazing as well. Got my eggs scrambled...not a fan of how they prepare them (every so slightly undercooked)
My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak, that also had the gravy on top. Freakin delish.
Overall, very satisfied.
Also, totally dig the ambiance. Someone earlier said it reminded them of a casino, and it totally does. Tall, private booths with super dark wood and brown leather seats...but retro. Like 60's or 70's. Love it. -

I came here via a recommendation from a Hotel desk clerk. What a disappointment.
I was greeted by a young, rude Hostess....started the visit off on a bad foot.
Next I encountered a rude Waiter, service was very slow.
I sat in the Bar area (lunch)....I was there for 1.5 hrs by myself.
Manager should offer zoloft to the staff. Everyone was grumpy and depressed. -

I've eaten lunch at 13 Coins three times. The first two times (dining alone), the server asked that I be seated in an empty, un-staffed barroom rather than the normal dining room. A bartender was sent in from time to time to take my order. I felt as though I was being deliberately segregated from the other guests and it made me feel very uncomfortable.
But, being close to where I work, I decided to give the place a final try for a working lunch with a co-worker from out of town. Again, as I entered, the server attempted to place me in the empty barroom. Instead, I insisted that we be seated in the normal dining room "like everyone else." The lunch itself was uneventful, but when it came time to pay the bill, OUR SERVER LOST MY CREDIT CARD. After fumbling around the bar for 15 minutes, the server and manager claimed not to have found it. Since they lost my method of payment I, again, had to insist that I not pay our tab and report the card lost to the bank.
I'm a friendly, polite person. I was raised in the midwest in a lower-middle class family. I've worked service jobs and know to treat servers and wait-staff with patients, kindness and, above all, respect. I want to make it clear that I was not being a troublesome restaurant guest, making unreasonable demands, sending food back for arbitrary reasons that got what was coming to him. I'm just a nice dude trying to have a decent lunch. The service and reception I received was offensive, disrespectful and inept. I've encouraged all of my coworkers to avoid 13 Coins and advise Yelpers to do the same. -

First of all this place is not cheap at all... if you eat here an omelette, you can pay probably including tips, less than $20, but if decide to order a steak, well... it's gonna be very expensive, even more than any other restaurant in downtown.
Secondly the omelette is delicious, but the steak barely acceptable.
The service in my experience has been impeccable -

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Seattle, the place is open 24 hours with the full menu available day and night. So many different items to choose from it can be hard. the atmosphere is very loungy and dark. perfect after hours spot!

Super happy they now have the lunch portion of "the believer!!" One of my favorite spots at any hour of the day :) 4 Stars because the good old relish trays seem to be smaller and not available at lunch anymore...

This past weekend I had the honor of eating at 13 Coins Restaurant in Seattle...TWICE. When we walked up the hill and turned the corner the first thing I said I hope this is not another Denny's. Meaning I wanted somethig a bit more nice. To my surpise it was fabulious on the inside.... and.the food is to die for. I went back twice for the blackened Chicken. It's a special they have on Saturdays so be sure to go then :). I just wish they could deliver all the way to Houston, Texas. :) Anyway.... they make The Space Needle food taste like ... well lets just say for your moneys worth... 13 Coins is worth every penny....NOT The Space Needle.....TRUST me.. and the service is GREAT at 13 coins. If I ever end up in Seattle again 13 Coins is the first place I'm eating at .. AGAIN :).

24 hour restaurant. Expensive, average price for a meal is around $20ish. Food is just OK. They started us off with bread/butter and tray with olives and carrots. The french onion soup is awesome.
The only reason I would go back is because it's open late night. Or if I have a craving for French Onion soup. -

Love the ambiance and layout of this authentic diner - high-backed, swivel leather chairs line the bar. Has a retro, 20s feel. True, expansive diner menu - tons of breakfast offerings, diner sandwiches, blue plate specials. Staff is professional and nice. A bit out of the way in SLU, but worth stopping by if you're in the area.
Menu is a bit over-priced as noted by Toni D, so this isn't your standard dive like 5 Points. -
Review from Karen L.
The decor and the ambiance of this place is great--it feels pretty upscale, though it probably attracts the drunken crowd since this place is open 24 hours.
The prices are pretty high for the food they serve. They serve breakfast foods though they also serve entrees like pasta and steak. However, the food here was just okay and definitely not worth the price tag. I ordered the carbonara which was around 20 bucks, and it didn't even taste up to Cheesecake Factory standards.
The service was great, though I wouldn't necessarily eat here when I'm looking for fine dining. -

We went in a group of 14 for my friend's birthday. This place is old, if your parents are from Seattle they probably ate here in their 20s. I'm told it's a great place for hangovers. The food was alright. We were allowed to sit early, probably because there was a reservation.
I have no experience with showing up here, or doing it in a small group. The atmosphere is nice. When you order a steak, you get pasta with it which makes the $40 price tag worth it. Their portion sizes are HUGE by the way!
Would I go out of my way to eat here? No, not really. No huge complaints, but no huge huge praises either. -

Best Chicken Parmigiana EVER. I dream about 'The Believer' - in fact - I can taste it now. And the salad and desert - love, love, love this place.
When you go here - ask for Saeed for your server. He is one of the best! -

This place reminds me of a casino. I can still almost smell the cigar smoke clinging to the leather upholstery. The dim lighting and dated art doesn't help either.
Despite the off-putting ambiance, we chose to sit in a booth in the main restaurant (not the lounge). The service was excellent so I had high hopes for the pricey food! I ordered the pasta verdura and it was SO BAD. Bad veggies, oily pasta (not in a good way), bland. A $19 entree should be better, I would say this was worth $4.
They dont have many vegetarian options. With so many places opening in South Lake Union, I think they'll be hard pressed to generate non late-night business.Listed in: The SLUT will take you here!

Sparks, NV
Two stars for the awesome seating otherwise completely mediocre. I wanted to like this place so I went twice for breakfast, but it's a completely cynically in its marketing to tourists and lousy food and service. The waiter brought two of the three meals and told the third member of the party , "we never make waffles" and we stared at our plates for five minutes waiting for the undercooked waffle to come out.
It wasn't just the lame, inattentive waiter though, that wouldn't have been a big deal, it's that they have all these AAA awards and BS and think they can get by on that and awful food. Eggs, and meat were nearly flavorless but quite expensive, the first meal featured canned corn and cold, dry hashbrowns. I would definitely go to IHOP or Denneys before going back here. -

This used to be one of my favorite places for a meal when you just can't figure out where to eat -- unfortunately I doubt I will ever be back.
I went for dinner with 3 friends and had quite possibly the worst service I have ever had any restaurant in Seattle. Now keep in mind -- the entrees start at $20, burgers are $12-14 -- this place is an over priced Denny's -- only Denny's normally have great service!
Our waiter was non-existent -- refilled drinks once -- we were so desperate to get out of the restaurant after out almost 2 hour dinner in a NON full restaurant that one friend didn't realize until she had left that our waiter took away her 1/2 burger to box up to go and neglected to bring back her food.
This restaurant has really taken a step back from the first time I visited almost 2 years ago -- food was marginal, service abysmal -- you can't tout being one of the oldest establishments in Seattle without providing what your customers expect -- cause you don't have cheap enough prices to not care about your customer service. -

I've been coming to 13 Coins for quite some time now, and I have yet to have a bad experience here. Love the booths, its nice because you don't have to look and see whos sitting in the booth next to you, it sets the scene for a more romantic, or intimate meal, which is nice because you get to focus on the person/people you are with rather than being distracted by other things.
The lounge is awesome, always playing great music! The chairs are super comfy, it feels like you are just melting into them. Happy hour is great, nice selection of foods and drinks. The fruit, wine, and cheese plate is absolutely delicious!
The staff is knowledgable, fun, and friendly. I always have a good experience with them, its nice to have employees who enjoy their work and want to see happy customers.
I also love (and appreciate) the fact that it is open 24 hours. There have been many nights where I thought I was going to pass out if I didn't eat anything because I had just left a hot, sweaty show over at El Corazon right down the street, and 13 Coins still opens its arms to me! Love it there! -

Had lunch here last week and the service was not good at all.. also my omelette had a piece of wax paper in from the cheese... i pulled this out as the host was walking by and he played it off. Unacceptable! I actually had stomach issues the whole day after that... not good at all! I've been ehre plenty of times and haven't had any issues as they have great happy hour specials at night :).. after this experience it really ruined it for me.

I think the food here is mediocre, it's also a bit pricey. It is nice that it's open 24 hours as I occasionally dine late at night. But, if you are planning a night out, I would consider places.

Ambiance was nice, quiet. I can only give 3 stars though b/c the food was mediocre. My friends had the prime rib and some kind of seafood pasta -- both delish, but I ordered an appetizer dish (some kind of mushroom thing with dungeness crab?) and it was soooooooooooooo salty. Omg. Taste was okay but I barely could eat it b/c of the salt factor.
I would probably come back and try some of their other offerings though. Wasn't a great experience for me, but wasn't a bad one either. -

I haven't been to 13 Coins in an awful long time but on Christmas Night 2012 my ex-wife and her family along with our boy and my Girlfriend all went for an amazing dinner, or so we thought. The service was terrible! The wait busboys kept dropping and breaking stuff along with not even paying any attention to sum tables leaving stuff on them way after the costumers had left. The waiter kept forgetting things like breads, waters and some of our drinks. The food when it finally came after an hour wait was cold. Now I'm never one to complain about the food or how hot it may or may not be but I had them take my plate 'Ukrainian Joe' back twice and when I got the newly cooked third plate it was just bland to say the least.
Not sure what is going on there but man they need to fix something and maybe have some staff meeting. I probably won't be back there for another very long while -

Been coming here off and on for 25 years. Last time, a couple of years ago, said I would give it one more try. That "try" was last week. Stopped in for lunch. Food was mediocre, but prices were even higher, and it's always been expensive. What remains is how truly dirty this restaurant is. The grill especially. Stainless steel pans with fingerprints and food stuck to them, and the area over the grill that looks like copper is coated in grease. It might look good at night, but a daytime view might have your stomach churning. It's sad, it could be a great restaurant once again with management and owners who care.

I went here with my buddy at 3 AM. Got the chicken fried steak and eggs and it was delicious. The country gravy had bacon pieces in it and my hash browns was crispy, greasy, and just right. My friend got the mexi scramble and he enjoyed it. The prices are a bit high for breakfast food ($14 for each) but it is open 24 hours and there aren't many other choices in S. Lake Union after bar close.
The service was great and the drunk crowd was friendly. Sitting at the counter in high back leather swivel chairs made me feel like a villain in a Bond movie or Capt. Picard.
I will be back. -

After a long day of going to a game and drinking with my friends we picked this place to enjoy some good food and a bloody mary. The menu was great, almost too many choices to choose from but once the choices were made happy win the food. Everything was great and will go back in the future I just wish the service was sharper, more than once we had to sit there waiting for our drinks or a server to talk to. All in all worth going back.

Food is ...OK...def not worth the price. The hostesses are nice, but the waitstaff have been consistently terrible. I'm not sure if it's because they're open 24 hours and by the time 3 am rolls around they've probably had enough bullshit pass through, but If life is that miserable you should probably quit. I have been 3 times, twice at night and once during the day. Both night services were horrible. The first time, the man waiting on us acted as if we had woken him up and asked him to make us dinner. Life couldn't of been more miserable for him at that point. It was 3 am, we tried to understand the drunk rush was probably no fun. The 2nd time, the lady serving us was rude and sharp and probably the least helpful being in the restaurant. Even after, all that she messed up on our bill and even when i waited the extra half hour for her to acknowledge us, I eventually just trecked up front to see if someone else could take care of my bill. Of course, they couldn't so, i had to wait another 20 min for her to come over and even then she mumbled some bullshit about the bill and came back with the exact same bill. At that point, I was more tired than anything and didn't want to deal with the overcharge. I don't recommend this place at night, maybe if you're eating at the lounge, but def not the restaurant part. You're better off grabbing a bite at Hurricane Cafe and dealing with the transients than sitting in a overpriced, sub-par facility with shit service.

Nothing better, especially late late at night. I generally get one of the appetizers or one of the egg dishes - the chocolate, cheese and wine appetizer (while only available before last call) - is all of my favorites, in one reasonably inexpensive plate.
The fresh veggie and salami plate that comes as a snack before you order is always a pleasant surprise, after most places give you bread.
I love the seats - even the bar seats have a private feel, which is amusing and comforting when you're feeling slightly haggard and just want a nice, non-fast food meal either post-drunk or pre-hangover (or both, of course!)
Service has always been reasonably swift and super-polite. I definitely need to go here more often, because I live (I mean work) just down the block, but for some reason I forget about it during the daylight... -

Thanks to Yelp we were able to find a 24 hour restaurant that wasn't too far from us. I guess there aren't very many 24 hour restaurants (or at least not that we knew of) cause it was very hard to find. 13 Coins was the first thing that popped up so we decided to go there.
We found the place pretty easily and there was lots of free parking! Typically you'd expect a 24 hour dining place to be like very casual and cheap... but wow we were in for a surprise. We looked over the menu outside first and noticed the pricing on it... ranging from like $20 to $30 for an entreé. We were like woahhh what? Then we took a glimpse of the inside and realized it was a fine dining restaurant. Very surprising but we didn't care.. we were starving and didn't want to go on a search for another restaurant.
The first thing I noticed was how cool & chic the atmosphere was. It was dim and dark on the inside but I liked it. And the tall booths were something I had never seen before! Everything on the menu sounded good and although I was tempted to try their benedicts, I settled for a French onion soup, something smaller since it was already so late. My fiancé got a club house sandwich.
My French onion soup was the best I've ever had! It was made to perfection. Even my fiancé liked it and he never really drinks soup. I nibbled on his club sandwich which was pretty good but you can't really go wrong with a club sandwich. My fiancé's friends seemed to like their meals too since they pretty much ate the whole thing. Portions are not small here!!
Even though my fiancé was full he was still tempted to try their desserts especially since the 3 layered chocolate cake was right in front of us. I still had room for dessert since I just had a bowl of soup... then again I always had room for dessert! We decided to get the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. The waiter warned us it would take like 10 to 15 min but we were willing to wait. The cookie was freshly baked right out of the oven and came in this little cookie pan plopped with vanilla ice cream. The cookie was warm and oozing with chocolate chips on the inside. It was delish and a perfect way to end the night!
Although it is a little pricy, it's totally worth it! -

My boyfriend & I went here after the Big Sean concert on 11/17/2011. The concert got done at around 11:15pm so needless to say, not many choices for places to eat. Love the fact that 13 Coins is open 24 hours!
This time I ordered the Smoke Salmon Eggs Benedict. I finished everything on my plate! So yummy! Our waiter was excellent!! Can't wait to go here again for dinner!Listed in: TGIF

This place is amazing for a 24 hour restaurant. It's not your typical diner with the rude waitress and one cook working in the back. It's a big upgrade from the usual. The place looks upscale from the outside but it's casual fare here. The decor is dark and the booths have a private setting to them. The servers are dressed in fancy black and white.
Like diners, there's a large selection of breakfast here. But they also have dinner entrees, steaks, and seafood dishes. There's no late night menu here, everything is served at all hours.
I've been here twice and the food is excellent. The portions are large and filling. The service is fast, friendly and welcoming.
I wish there were something like this in So. Cal with all the late night eating I do. -

Very nice to see 13 coins regain some of it's former quality. Especially with the food and cleaned up decor.
Our party sat in the bar.
I would like to have given them 5 stars, but the service wasn't up to the Ol' 13 level.
There were 3 other tables occupied by couples. 2 cocktail waitresses were working the bar. After we received our dinner, no one came by to see how we were doing or to even refill water glasses or ask if we wanted another cocktail. The servers were polite, but very unattentive. After we ate, we had to wave down a not-busy server for another drink. It was a little unfortunate, as 13 Coins has always shined in customer service. By the way, the Chicken Parmesan was excellent and worth ordering again. -

Some random local who was a self-proclaimed Anthony Bordain highly recommended this place. Walked blocks to get here.
Decor was cool.
French onion soup was delicious.
Broccoli and cauliflower with cheese was decent, but wasn't phenomenal.
Service was great. -

*Food network voted 13 Coins one of the Top Five Best 24-hour restaurants!
We had a party of ten and we walked in without a reservation around 7pm on a Thursday and was seated immediately. The interior of this place is cozy, dim and very comfortable. Loved the huge, tall chairs at the bar. Complimentary baguette style bread is served with a plate of salami, olives, celery, carrots and pepperonis. Great start! My bf had a breakfast omelette which he devoured. I went with a fried oysters which included fries and salad. They were fresh and portions were generous. Service was a bit laggy, but we were a huge party. -

Based on so many positive reviews I'm starting to think the LOUNGE is the problem area with this place. I've never even sat in the dining room. Both times I went I was going to see some of the live jazz they have (great! The singer in one, Rachel, has a surprisingly incredible voice).
The food is an overpriced Denny's that just happens to serve lobster.
The service doesn't make any sense.
Visit #1: Busy. Every table, almost every bar stool taken. One waitress. Excellent service.
Visit #2: Slow. I'm one of 4 people in the entire joint. One waitress. Crap service from a different waitress who would rather talk with coworkers.
I'm cool with people talking with coworkers. We all do and there's nothing wrong with that. But I should not have to wait 1/2 hour for you to take my order from my closed menu. The bartender was a nice gal. -

My husband and I went to 13 Coins for Seattle Restaurant Week. We had some stipulations in our choice: free parking with a relatively short drive and easy bus trip from works. It also had to have the lunch for Seattle Restaurant Week.
The decor is neat. The regular menu looked really good. We had $15 3-course lunch. The appetizers we choose were the bruschetta and the 13 Coins fries with dipping sauce. The bruschetta was possibly the best bruschetta I've ever had. One appetizer came out before the other, which the server apologized for.
We selected the chicken parmigiana and the half Benedict for our entrees. The chicken parmigiana was good, although the chicken was a little too crispy and the dish was a little too cheesy for me. The half Benedict was very good, but there was not enough of the very tasty sauce.
While we'd like to visit again, we don't think it is in the cards. The service is a little slow and the price (sans restaurant week) is a little high. -

I've been coming to both locations for 20 years. I absolutely love the atmosphere at both locations. The food is great but have to admit it is pricey. The severs and staff have all been there for years and are very good. Recently I have seen some changes in the personnel that seems like they are hiring parolee type folks.
The chicken parm is AWESOME, love the salmon, and the bread and veggies before your meal are awesome. I would highly recommend sitting at the counter the seats are wonderful red high back seats and watching the kitchen personnel prep the food is fun.
The only reason I did not rank it a 5 star was due to the change in personnel recently. -

I came here on a super late, late night. I felt like I was meeting a mobster for an arms deal when I first saw this place.
The atmosphere was cold not welcoming at all. Not really crazy about this place, but I do have to say the food was great. Had a breakfast omelette and it could have been the beer talking, but BURP, it was good...and sleepy time. -
Review from Jeremy M.
The food was a solid 2-2 1/2, but their manager (I'm assuming) is a negative 5 start!
Let's start with seating arrangements. We were sat at the bar in front of the cooks which I didn't care all too much for even though there were open booths. The soda I was given was flat, but still I drank it. We started with a bucket of their pesto clams abysmal! How is this their "SIGNATURE" dish?! WTF are these people thinking?! I found many empty clams that were FILLED with sand (here's where the fun begins) and I sent the dish back. Our server brought that to their manager's(Angela) attention and this was their conversation:
Server Joe: Customer asked to have the clams replaced because there was sand in it.
Manager Angela: Well does the customer know where clams come from?!
I over heard all of that and wanted to give her a piece of my mind, but I held myself back. They replaced it. Still tasted like shit. Then the most funniest thing happened I thought at least, one of the servers gave a table the wrong dish and that customer sent it back and told the manager and the manager shouted "OH SHIT"! hahahahaha everyone paused and looked at her and then she corrected herself and said "OH SHOOT".
I had some decent breakfast tasting like sandwich which was ok, not enjoyable but ok.
All in all, this place sucks! Stick with 4th ave Denny's or Chinatown for the price you'll be paying! The drive may be a little further away, but for the money you're going to pay you will be EXTREMELY disappointed. -
