Review from Ileana S.
This is my seventh Yelp entry of my Tuesday coffeeshop series.
11th Street Cafe, I would like to thank you for increasing my faith in Chelsea/West Village coffeeshops.
I will pardon the fact that you only have one vegetarian sandwich available (okay, I see there is ONE more option for the pressed sandwiches). I WILL say that my sandwich was absolutely delicious. Sandwich came with sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, arugula and avocado.
After that I treated myself to a tasty treat, mainly a cookie, that was topped with apricot and dipped in walnuts. Gimme gimme. :)
The cafe *is* small. It is quaint and I am *so* happy it was not packed. At least three tables open during this weekday afternoon on my 1.5 hour stay. The internet is consistent, too! Yippee! :)
There are:
+ coffee selections
+ espresso selections
+ loose teas
+ special teas...wait...special?! ;)
+ salads
+ sandwiches
+ pressed sandwiches
+ smoothies/juices
+ omelette varieties
+ 7 scrambled egg varieties...seriously?! awesome. :)
+ bagels
+ buttermilk biscuits
+ beer! (Racer 5 IPA, Red Rocket, Stella, Hoegaarden, Blackhawk Stout)
+ red and white wine
9 tables available...or 18 seats to set your bum on. Also! a lovely bench outside.
I think I am in love.Listed in: Chelsea/West Village…

Great little spot in a cool neighborhood. Went because Spotted Pig had 90 wait! Fresh pastries, smoothies, and a unique take on a cuban sandwich. Friendly staff as well. Everything tasted fresh and delicious.

Great place for lunch. Last time I went I got an absolutely delicious sandwich! It was a prosciutto, aged asiago, argula and truffle oil sandwich on a baguette. It was one of the cheaper options on the menu, which is why I went with it. Service with a smile too! It's a little small, with only about 6 tables so if you come to eat here, keep in mind that you might not be able to sit.

Great cappuccino. Super friendly staff.

I cannot say enough about how much I like their unique little spot. So many haunts these days seem to be toting their own spin on a generic set of items frequently listed on menus about town -- it's refreshing to see someone doing something different. Yea this is a TINY cafe, and they have limited items, but the quality seems to surpass most cafes' and if you're fortunate you'll get a seat.
If you don't find room to sit then you can head over to the west side highway and go for a walk along the water. Just a few blocks further down 11th street you will find plenty of places to rest your weary feet.

Strong Suggestion: Excellent vegetarian sandwich if you're in the mood... Exceptional fresh squeezed orange juice and good espresso. -

I generally like these guys and root for them to do well, as so many places in the west village are going under or falling victim to another fashion venue.
I like the egg dishes and the sandwiches and they make one of the better cups of coffee in the neighborhood.
They seem responsive to customer feedback. I only wish the place were bigger so I could get a seat more often, but I guess that would destroy the charm and intimacy!

First time here. I'll be here again.
What you need to know:
*Free wi-fi.
*Good coffee.
*Cheddar and Egg biscuit with Ham was delicious --- ask for it toasted.
*Selection of wines and beer available.
*A total of nine tables... each seats 2 people. So yes, it's tiny.
*Was here for two hours and there were always people in line; was almost always about five people deep. For a tucked-away neighborhood spot, pretty impressive. No fears though, service was pretty fast.
Only real downer is that there's no restroom. Think it might be intentional; otherwise people like me would be here all day. :) -

This should be five stars, but unfortunately the place just needs a bit more room. I think it's a great cafe. The people are extremely friendly. They treat you as if your a friend from the first time you walk through the door. The food is excellent. I love the scrambled eggs with chives and onions.
It can appear busy, but it moves quick so get in line if there is one - it's worth the 1-2 minutes in line. Also, cozy up at a table. Since there aren't too many, if it is busy, get close - no one in there is surprised or cares. Share the table if you want.
Great place. Highly recommend you go. -
Review from Jeff M.
Egg sandwiches on biscuits! These are not Pillsbury biscuits that will crumble just looking at them. These are real biscuits with a very crispy crust and tender inside. Do not be scared by the fact they are in a window and are reheated. Delicious. The coffee is above average. The few tables that were at 11th Street Cafe were full so I had to take my sandwich to go.

My favorite cafe in the West Village. Its located in a great spot, a few doors down from the Spotted Pig. It has a wide variety of options including excellent espressos, smoothies, baked goods, salads, and tons of sandwiches. Good music as well.
I'll often head down on a Sunday afternoon with my computer and a book in tow. I typically get a Fresh Mozzarella and Arugula Panini and a small latte. They offer free wifi as well. I might get a cookie on the way out, when I'm done catching up on work or emails.
The main drawback is that its quite small and can get very crowded. Their is usually a line when I get there at high time. If you go with a group, plan on getting there early or jockeying for a table. Also, the staff is typically friendly, but can border on the edge of pretension at times (like the neighborhood). For example, last time I went, it seems the whole staff was dressed in costume from that movie the "Newsies".
All in all, 11th Street Cafe is a great coffee and sandwich shop in the West Village. Pop in for your caffeine fix or sit down and relax with a book and a sandwich. Its the perfect stop off from an afternoon exploring the charming neighborhood. -

This fantastic establishment is right across the street from my friends' apartment. It's the perfect "morning after" spot. Everyone there is ridiculously lovely and nice. The inside space is quite itty-bitty, so I've only sat down to eat once, but people really set up shop in there. It's a cute little place to meet someone for some daytime food, catch up on the latest read, bang out some work, or even to catch up on your YELP reviews...
Food is great!! Bagels...croissants..can't go wrong...but my favorite dish is their scrambled eggs. Usually go for the one with spinach and mozzarella cheese. My summer staple beverage is their Iced-Chai. Yum. And my latest winter choice beverage is their Iced-Tea (they have simple syrup/sugar to help out that process...whaaaa??). I dunno, I'm just an iced-drink girl lately I guess. I truly heart this place and maybe if you're lucky you may even have a celebrity sighting...or two... -

If you're on a mobile device, here are the essentials: sandwiches $7-$9, unconventional and delicious. +salads, +beer ($5ish), +wine. Coffee drinks average price ($2-$4). Egg breakfasts. hours 7am-8pm. Good for intimate/casual conversation and work/study alike. Accepts credit. Rest room if you ask.
Every time I've come here I've gotten nothing but above and beyond friendly service from several different staff members. There's a little bench area just outside the place with a nice shade in the midday. Space is limited and it can get a little crowded but it's never loud and seating is still comfortable. Would recommend the spot for 2 people max though I'd say 80% of the time I've sat here in the afternoon/evening 4 people would have found a seating area. Seems its pretty crowded in the morning though. Music is pretty much always good and non-distracting (Explosions in the Sky right now, though I've also heard them play 80s and the like). I've tried each of the pressed sandwiches and all of them are well worth the $8-$9 sticker price. A little on the petite side maybe but warm and packed with deliciousness. There are only 4 pressed sandwiches to choose from so if you're indecisive it makes the choice real easy. Probably not good for someone with a chicken fingers only palette though. They also have an abundant and healthy menu with non-pressed sandwiches, salads, breakfast and deli stuffs.
To Pat B.'s post about the wifi, I've never been limited to 1 hour and I do web development and haven't had any trouble with the internet as she did, so maybe they've changed their provider/policy.
For afternoon/early evening conversation or freelance this place is the best in the West. -

When Mojo was too crowded the other day, I went searching for other wi-fi friendly pastures in the area, and I had remembered passing this place and thinking "This would be a great place to check out when Mojo's too full" (isn't it nice how I can predict my own future?).
Cozy is a generous word for the place, it is TINY and cramped. I managed to squeeze in and get some work done with coffee and a cookie - both OK. Minus one star for a poor use of space (bathroom through the kitchen? Gross.) And minus another one for closing at 5pm on a Monday - I realize it was a holiday, but come on guys - 5pm!? This is New York. Closing at 8pm is early. Not cool. -

You have no idea how hard it was just to find the address and phone number of this place on the internet. They are literally M.I.A. in every single search engine, and every time I tried to find it, I'd get the result of a cafe with the same name in Houston, Texas. Creepy. Anyway, now that I finally found the address and phone number (which was under a listing on citysearch, but the title was completely different), I can now make a nice review that it deserves.
I literally work up the block, and every morning and afternoon, I stop here to get myself a bagel. Their bagel selection is great, and the one bagel that I get 90% of the time is the Cinnamon Raisin bagel with cream cheese (which they toast using a grill). It comes out pretty flat, but the cream cheese is melty and delicious.
The also have a selection of wrapped sandwiches, fresh juices, pastries, donuts and the most amazing muffins (especially the Carrot Almond Muffin which is my absolute favorite).
Their coffee is incredible as well, especially the Hazelnut. Try it iced or not, either way, it made daily and incredibly delicious.
Among what I explained, they have a large variety of different things you can eat. Scrambled eggs to go in a cup, etc.
Seating is very limited unfortunately, and the place tends to get a bit filled during the morning hours. Seating outside however exists if you consider a bench and one table seating.

Great place for coffee, a cookie and a sandwich while you are strolling around west village. Amazing service (nicest person ever behind the register!) and delicious chicken salad sandwich with avocado and sprouts and homemade mayo.

Review from Talia R.
I moved to the corner last week & until I dug out my coffee pot from corrugated box hell, I had to go out for caffeine & breakfast each day.
Coffee is only so-so, but the place is warm, staff is super friendly & they have a hangover-worthy item that could rival the McGriddle. It's a bacon, egg & cheese on a homemade biscuit. By the time I got it up - literally 2 doors & 3 flights of stairs away - the paper bag was soaked through with butter.
It was heavenly. Like I have been thinking about it each morning since, even contemplating drinking too much at night so I could maybe justify having one in the morning. -

The limited space isnt really their fault, but the spotty internet is. I understand the one hour limit given that they have approximately ten seats which would better be used as a standing room only venue, but I dont have to like it. And going through the kitchen for a bathroom? come on.
The only saving grace is that 11th street serves vino, has some outdoor seating, and accepts CC. When I'm up for mid-day drinking with free wifi, the options are somewhat limited on the west side, so its 3 stars rather than 2.Listed in: Stay Caffienated, my Friends., Wined me up

I like this place a lot! I prefer any teas more than coffee (I don't like the after taste of coffee beans in my mouth. I chose clean taste of Japanese canned coffee. Yes, it's in a can but really good! When you see one, try one).
I usually get Earl Grey ask for a lot of sliced lemon. They fill up their own tea in a bag. Good amount of tea leaves gives full of flavor and nice buzz. I also like the people works there. Low key but attentive.
It is good that half of the space is used for kitchen and cashier. I'm sure any thing comes out form that kitchen got to be fine but I haven't tried any food yet...
I like this cafe because of the location. It is so deep into the village, there are mostly the nabes are here. Oh! lastly, they also provide toilet for customers!! -

Today was probably the 5th or 6th or 20th time I came here, and every time, a cup of coffee is in order. The oatmeal is great, as well as the Danish pancakes (aebleskiver). They both come with fresh fruit. The oatmeal today had ginger, and it was really good. I've had their omelet with chorizo, and it was spectacular. But the best thing here is the eggless frittata. It's with spinach, soft feta cheese (I think) and tomatoes. Sooo good. It's best to come early so you can get fresh pastries. Bring your dog, too! They have biscuits.

Window seat with cushions, check. Free Wifi, check. Available electrical outlets for laptops, check. Coworking in this cozy cafe on 11th Street is possible if you can find a seat.
No shortage of cold and hot beverages, and the staff are all super friendly and really, really nice. I'm glad someone recommended me this laptop-friendly place for my web worker needs. -

The coffee here is terrible. I don't mind paying five bucks for a latte, but the barista should know how to pull a shot and steam milk. The beans may be great , but we're talking McDonald's or Dunkin' Donut's-quality staff in terms of training.
Joe's is a long walk from my apt., so I've given this place more tries than I should have. The final straw was a few weeks ago. I ordered a macchiato, but the barista didn't even know what it was. (Seriously.) I reminded him. He served it to me not in a demitasse, but a huge paper cup and managed to burn the milk as well.
If you have to go here (like I said, Joe's is a long walk) go for the brewed coffee. It's pretty much automated, so there's less chance of the staff fucking it up. -

I try to hit up this favorite coffee shop/eatery every time I am in the neighborhood. The friendly faces, superior service and tasty treats keep me coming back. Whether you are in the mood for awesome people watching, baked goods, seasonal eats or some seriously well made barista drinks this is my go-to-place.
For bevs, I usually order whatever I am in the mood for: dirty chai latte (best ever!), cappuccino, iced coffee (really quality stuff, not watered down Dunkin), vino or a high grav/craft beer. The baristas here really know what they're doing and you can tell that they use the good stuff.
For eats, everything here is fresh and thoughtfully prepared. They really get my vote because they use unexpected ingredients to avoid the 'typical' sandwich and salad selection at most joints. Plus, the menu is constantly changing so I never get bored. While I am not a veggie or vegan, I definitely respect that they have plenty of those options and they look so good on the menu, that I've ordered a few. One of my favorite things about this place is that if you're in a hurry, they offer delicious oatmeal and eggs in a cup to go...Don't forget the doughnuts!
The ONLY downfall about this place is that it's pretty small. Don't be alarmed by the size or the line that is probably running out the door during peak hours. It's totally worth the wait and they really move it along while maintaining their high level of customer service. Plus, the crowd is pretty great and you can make new friends with the crew or the customers in the intimate seating area. Bonus! -

One of many great spots tucked away in the labyrinth that is the West Village. You are likely to see 11th street customers line up their macbooks in this artsy wifi hotspot. Anyone coming to browse the web, search for local apartments, or do some work will feel very comfortable here. Both the baristas and customers are very friendly, and they make a great cup of coffee.

Like home away from home....but better!!! Everyone is so friendly and warm without being too intrusive - a perfect combination. The coffee is delicious and the food is out of this world. I used to go every single day but circumstances have kept me from the cafe as regularly as I would like and.....I MISS IT SO MUCH! The best little cozy spot in the far west village. I still go WHENEVER I can and always leave there feeling so lucky to be able to call this place MY LOCAL COFFEE SHOP (and so much more!)

New York, NY
I stopped going to this place mainly because the owners run it like a little chatty social club, and if you're not a member, don't expect to get any kind of decent service. MANY times when I used to go in, there'd be a decent-size line while the owner chatted away with a customer/friend/club member at the front of the line while I waited and waited and waited. There was even a time or two when a person in line in back of me was "recognized" and served before me. I started an informal, unofficial, personal boycott and then realized I wasn't missing much anyway by not coming here (everything's overpriced at least by a little compared to competitors in the area and the coffee isn't very good -- tea is better they bag it to order) and so I just stopped coming.

cute, cute, cute (manhattan translation: small, cosy, quaint, quirky). Busy on weekend mornings but what else would you expect?
Extensive menu including omelets and bagels and sandwiches and croissants au chocolate, etc etc. The coffee is rich, strong, with your typical choice of flavor enhancements.
Reasonably priced.

The iced mocha was the same price but better than Cocoa V by a mile. Still, the young woman behind the counter looked straight through me for two minutes before acknowledging I existed. She took my order and wandered off for five minutes before returning to fill it.
The place is quite small, with an intimate warmth, save the cold stare. -

I live close by so this is my neighborhood coffee shop ( thank G-d its not a Starbucks)! The coffee is good, the service is always friendly. However it is tiny and the tables are mostly taken by other customers on their laptops. I often stop by with friends or guests and everyone loves how cute and cozy it is!

This place is awesome...hands down. I moved in around the corner about a month ago and have already been here a dozen times. The ice coffee is great...its actually iced (not like some other places...not mentioning names...starbucks..) and its pretty strong also, which is always a plus.
There sandwiches are great too...everything is fresh and yummy..really just a great go-to cafe in the area...very happy to have found it! -

Another laptop hipster cafe, ingredients are always the same: a warm atmosphere, wood based decor, young, cool and friendly staff, and of course, free wifi. Get yourself a cup of coffee and a chocolate croissant and dip yourself into work. You will be disappointed when somebody will wake you up from your geeky trip, at 7pm, saying we're closing.

i've been patronizing this place since back in the day when it was still called brew bar... the coffee's good, the people are nice, but i have to admit that the prices have been creeping up in the last year so i stopped going there as often. but you can't beat the atmosphere and i love the bench outside. i like to splurge on oatmeal on cold rainy days.
