More like two and a half stars, but I round up cuz I'm nice like that.
- The good: decent pizza, not too thin, not too thick, quick delivery.
- The bad: both sauce and cheese are a little bland, $2.50 for each additional "barely there" topping. !!!
- The ugly: I asked for black olives, I think I got the equivalent of ONE all chopped up. Excuse me, but I know an entire can of olives costs $2.50, unless these olives were plucked from a tree in Greece planted by Zeus himself. If they were, they didn't taste like it. It's a recession, but really?? C'mon, a girl's got to have her olives!
After a few bites and deciding it need something more, I added granulated garlic, salt, freshly ground pepper, red pepper flakes and grated parmigiano reggiano... then stuck it under the broiler for another few minutes. Did I mention there was also sausage? You should always assume there's some kind of meat in my meals. The Italian sausage was good, though also given on the miserly side.
So, while I wouldn't ever crave 11B, I wouldn't be opposed to ordering from it if all the other pizza joints in my neighborhood suddenly stopped delivering.
I ordered delivery from here before reading reviews. Oops. Limp mozza sticks, chewy chicken parm, overcooked pasta that's been baked improperly so parts are rubbery.
No thanks.
This is a review for the EXPRESS 11B, not the restaurant. The restaurant always seems to be crowded so maybe its better over there. But the take out place I would only go to again if it was suuuuper late and NOTHING was open!! Even then I'd go to a the corner bodega instead.
Pros: free delivery and open late (notice nothing food related is a pro)
Cons: the pizza was just yuck. It was edible, but I could've gotten something waaaay better for the price. I could've gone to the super market and gotten one of those pizzas in the freezer section and would have been more satisfied with that.
the slice was a decent size and the price was fine ($2.50per/slice). They had a good choose of extra toppings but DON'T BOTHER! they were generous with the toppings but they weren't fresh and kinda gross so I ended up picking off most of it.
Grabbed a menu when walking by a few weeks ago and decided to try out their delivery last night. Really mediocre.
I had a meatball parm sub and although the bread was good, the meatballs seriously looked and tasted like the tiny frozen ones you can get at Trader Joe's. Very disappointing especially after reading the bit on the menu about how they are an old Ital family that uses their fam recipes, etc. I'm calling BULLSHIT. I typically order Italian delivery from Supper, Frank, or Lil Frankie's but after reading about how they don't pay their employees, I've been looking for an alternative. Also last time I ordered from Frank the prices were all $2+ more on every item then the last time I ordered. Was hoping Eleven B would be a new alternative. Guess not.
The hero was accompanied with a side of undercooked soggy french fries with zero flavor. I put some sea salt on them and baked them in the oven for 10 mins until they were edible. The whole point of delivery and takeout for me is not having to do any work. I was aggro.
After that was all said and done I threw the menu out and spit on it before closing the lid to my garbage can. Never again.
I'm not sure why there isn't a separate listing for 11B, because 11B Express is just the takeout place next door, while 11B is the actual sit-down restaurant. I've never gotten the takeout, so I can only review 11B the restaurant!
I love this place, and have had a great experience every time I've been there. It's so low-key and casual, and it's even BYOB! The owner (I think he's the owner) is the only waiter, and he's such a cool guy. The food is also good, but the great experience is what I go for. The prices are also so great - just had dinner there and it only ended up costing $48 for the four of us, including tax and tip.
Oftentimes us Manhattanites find our "spots" - our Chinese/Sushi place we swear by, the one and only bagelry we'll consider eating from, and our usual "I'm ordering some kind of delivery" restaurant.
11B is the latter -- over the last 3 years they've yet to let me down with their Italian delivery fare. The pizza may be average/good at best (we New Yorkers are spoiled -- try what they have in Texas or Florida and you'll rank 11B 5 stars), but the dishes are easily on the high side in light of the neighborhood competitors. For delivery, you can't go wrong with 11B.
Maybe I was there on a really bad night. Ok - I was definitely there on a bad night - but still. I was with good people and it was BYOB, but otherwise:
1. We waited for a table. And then we sat at that table for 10 minutes without menus, water, or anything. Not even napkins and shit.
2. We ordered 2 medium pizzas. The waiter came back 5 minutes later to ask me to remind him what we wanted on the pizzas.
3. We waited 45 minutes for those pizzas. Still no one had brought us any napkins or utensils. But one of the waiters/owners was watching the mets game at the bar and calling out to the TV when something exciting was happening.
4. The pizzas were not terrible. But they were not good at all. To me they were like Pizza you are forced to eat late night in Cleveland or something - not on a Friday night in NYC.
I don't take much joy in writing negative reviews, but this place needs to step its game up in a big way.
Oh, on a good note - we did see this like 2 year old going to town on some of the pizza. So it's probably a good place for kids. Kind of like Chuck E. Cheese without any of the games or singing puppets.
YES!
I've only ordered delivery from 11B, but their pies are seriously good. Fresh ingredients, good crust, the works. It's not the best pizza in the east village, that crown goes to The Pizza Shop (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), but it's a close second. If you happen to find yourself on 11th and Avenue B, stop on in.
Seriously from the beginning of our meal to the end - 11B just continued to WOW us. We tried 4 appetizers and 2 entrees and ALL were excellent! The Eggplant Parmagana - was FLAWLESS - you need not add one thing to your meal (ie:salt/pepper/hot peppers). You will leave here feeling like you were in Italy at a family members house.
FYI: should you want to drink - bring your own bottle of wine or beer, they don't have their liquor license. Enjoy!!!!!
They make a great slice. I love having this on my corner. Don't listen to weird reviews...the owner is such a stand up guy, and was a delightful addition to this neighborhood. In this day and age when there's a new something in any space available in our neighborhood, Vinny is standing hard, and his reward with be tenfold! The place is nice, not cheap looking. You could bring your lady/man friend and even if you want just a slice, you won't feel like you're treating your significant other to a whole in the wall. Long Live 11B!
Standard New York pizza that makes into the belly of Stuyvesant Town within half an hour when you're drunk and definitely going to throw up that seventh scotch and soda unless you eat something and fast.
I think I'm the first to review this place, so I'm feeling pretty cool right about now. This establishment sits a mere 5 door from my apartment. The layout is awesome and the place looks great. It always is empty though, the reason being is it's BYOB. Which living so close to it, I don't actually don't mind, because you can save some loot. But I'm sure for the average person just cruising the area that would be a big negative. Now to the food. It's actually pretty good. It's extremely affordable and not bad. I had pizza, which fails in comparison to Gruppo, which is a few door down. I think if you're looking to save some money but want a nice spot to eat, I would recommend this. If you're looking for a great wine list and over the top Italian, I would not.
Also, If you live in the EV they deliver!
Cheap food, BYOB, get trashed on the cheap.
Food: Food was average. Got the chicken parm and the grilled portobello mushrooms. Chicken a little dry reminded me of the my college hang out.
Price: very heap, entrees low teens. sandwich burger below 10
Atmosphere: nice atmosphere, candles, open seating. Great for chilling with friends.
Service: very helpful, refilled our wine promptly
Pretty good, typical Italian food in the East Village. The place itself is cute, and a passerby might be intrigued by the sleek look and candle-lit ambience at night, not to mention the nice and cheap prices on the menu, but they probably won't stay.
While a friend and I were dining there one night pre-Happy Ending, we saw at least four different groups walk in and leave. Why? Well, people typically want some wine with their Italian meal, and 11B doesn't have its liquor license yet. The owner, who was also our waiter, seemed genuinely embarrassed and annoyed about this, and I have the feeling they're going through some bureaucratic bullshit with the license.
If you're in the mood to save some money, have a good (and quiet---circumstantially), alcohol-less meal, give Eleven B a chance.
I wish I could rate this place higher, but they never get my order right. I've gotten delivery from them about 5 times, and I think only once did they get it correct. Either missing soda, wrong toppings on the burger, etc. But, the upside: the pizza is good, soup is A+, delivery is lightening fast (I live close though), and I like the seasoning of the burgers. I've had some of their desserts: uniformly so-so. All in all it's okay.
Good pizza. Made proper. Sauce is very flavorful, not too much cheese, and always cooked well. Great staff. Good price. This review is for 11B Express. Not the sit down that it's connected to. Consistent too.
Pretty good pizza and quick delivery. I really liked the crust, which was thin but soft rather than crunchy. The sauce was a bit sweet, and the cheese (their regular with fresh mozzarella added) got my seal of approval.
"Where can I get a late night slice of good pizza?" 11B Express.
We've walked past this place many times and finally went it. The owner, Vincent, is friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very relaxed, low lighting, clean, and not hurried. I had cheese pizza with red peppers and olives. It was very good; the sauce has a good plum tomato flavor, and the crust is nice and thin without being either too stiff or too limp. I was impressed to see fresh basil going into some pot of Italian goodness, which tells me that they make their food with fresh ingredients.
The prices are very reasonable. Yes, they've been waiting a very long time for a liquor license, but there's nothing they can do about it. If you must have suds, bring your own I suppose.
