Today I got a cut and color service from David holt! he is AMAZING!!! I did not want to leave.... He was professional because he explained everything he was going to do to me before he did anything. It was great customer service!!! My hair by the way is the shit! It was dyed to the perfect hue of reddish brown and cut to the exact length i expressed in the consultation. He definitely listened to my concerns and made sure that I was getting the best hair experience ever!! He also was great about not getting color all over my face because I am going out tonight...
He gave me great advice and did not try to push anything on me AND I LOVE HIM FOR IT!
GO TO DAVID HE WILL CHANGE YOUR HAIR FOREVER!!!!!
THANK YOU
(so not shouting just really excited) -

I was wholly unimpressed with my blow-out here. The staff and stylist were very nice, but he took FOREVER, like an hour and ten min to blow dry my hair because he used the tiniest round brush known to man and had the dryer on a low setting.
This would seem like diligence except I have fine hair that tends to frizz, which I told him. So, this blow out, while thorough, needed a pound of product to un-frizz it, whereas a high heat setting and larger brush could have had me out of there sooner and without globs of gook on my head. I left saying : I could have done this myself and better.
The salon itself had seen better days. It looks like maybe an early 90s remodel that was probably super stylish then and has since languished. For $55, which was the competitive rate of all the salons in the area, you could do better.Listed in: Relax, don't do it, when you…, San Francisco

Well, I've been going to Teagan ever since I ran into him and he put his hands in my hair and told me to come in and get my hair looking healthy.
Needless to say, love the service, love the salon, love Teagan.
He doesn't only cut my hair to look good that day, but he makes it so that it grows out looking good and clean cut.
Can't wait for my next appointment. :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

I woke up one day, looked in the mirror and I saw Buffalo Bill. Yeah, the one from Silence of the Lambs. I immediately called here and asked for an emergency appointment with Teagan.
And as usual, he transformed me from Gremlin to Gizmo. I left looking like the poor man's John Stamos, circa 2000.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Amy Z.
San Francisco, CA
Let me preface the review by saying that the only reason I visited the salon is because I took advantage of a marketing promotion that they offered last summer. 4 services for around $65. Pretty good deal for a salon in Union Square. One haircut & styling, mani/pedi, facial, and a massage.
Hair- I started off by scheduling a hair cut immediately. They booked me with a guy, don't recall his name, and he did a fine enough job. Although he started out immediately with the upselling technique, recommending some monthly deep conditioning treatment that goes for $100. Constant upselling is a big turn-off for me. One of the things that he was trying to sell me on were his skills at up-dos giving me his portfolio to flip through while he worked on my hair, which I needed to schedule one for the Opera Opening Night. Even though the chemistry wasn't fantastic, I decided to book another appointment with him for the up-do.
On the day of and I was on a really tight beauty schedule, I show up for the appointment and wait for about 20 minutes until another stylist comes out to say that he'll be doing the updo. He was pleasant and did a fine enough job, but the lack of tact stood out. Up-dos in a hair salon signify a special occasion for the client. If you're trying to build a long term relationship with a client, you don't shift them to another stylist, at the last minute, and even tardy at that. He didn't even come over and apologize for it. Before my visit for my hair appt, I had been seeing a stylist at Alcheme and I've decided that I will maintain that relationship.
Next up in the beauty rotation was the mani/pedi, which I also lined up the day before Opening Night. My appt. was at 1pm. I think they only have one woman doing this, so it went overtime for a lunchtime appt. Unfortunately, the morning after on the big day of the event, I woke up with smudged nails, like the sheets embedded lines in all my fingernails. The only that would have caused this is that she put way too much polish on my fingers. I called first thing on Friday morning to see if I could schedule a touch-up, and they weren't willing to comply. I managed to find the polish shade at a beauty supply store and handled the touch-up myself. What really irked me is that the receptionist countered my remark with the fact that the woman has been doing mani/pedis for 10 years.
I had booked a massage before the year was out, but I never got a reminder call for the appt and I was caught up with work, so I missed the appt. Therefore revoking the discounted massage in my package. Oh well, my bad. Although, they called me for a reminder call for every other appt.
Then, I never bothered to book the facial.
Needless to say, I'm not overly impressed with the salon and its customer service. They obviously had to do the promotional package to boost their clientele, and I know that they didn't gain many clients from the abundance of people who bought packages at my office. And 111 Maiden Lane really can't back up the "Maiden Lane" brand that it carries. Maiden Lane implies luxurious, expensive, high end, and this salon is anything but. The decor is completely outdated, and it's not the kind of place that you could carry out the Ladies Day at the Spa (as many had envisioned). It's just not an adequate enough of a space. Their signage isn't very prominent on Maiden Lane so you can just walk by if you're not looking for it, but its' just as well. -

I've been a client for over 6 years and Jun is just amazing! He has always done my hair exactly how I wanted if not better!
He also does a great job with the japanese hair straightening method, I haven't found a place yet that does the same way that he does.
The decor is not great, it needs improvement.
And Jun's wife is just a sweet heart. They are both very stylist and talented!!! Definitely worth the shot! -

If you have dry hair and thin, go to Maiden Lane and look for Teagan. I recently had hair cut with him and it is amazing.
My hair is very dry, curly and thin, but with magic touch from Teagan, my hair look so full and healthy. What he did was, he cut my hair with "layer strategy" and right to the perfect length. Look amazing.
He is not only good but he is also friendly and humorist. My husband told me that I am look younger and sexier. Thanks to Teagan, now I do not need to worry about blow my hair every day. I am surely be back to you. -

Menlo Park, CA
I went to Maiden Lane Salon today for the first time ever (I live in Menlo Park, so it's quite a commitment!). I had seen a women w/ a fabulous cut and asked her who she used - turns out it was Berlin at MLS. After having a quick convo w/ Berlin I knew we had simpatico, so I made an appointment. I couldn't be happier with my cut - Berlin GETS me and this cut is rockin' good. He's fearless with the shears (he may have a diff vibe with other clients, but he could tell that was fine for me) and it was like scissorhands - with hair flying. When the dust settled, I was amazed at what had happened. Transformation. Wow. I wanted short & edgy, and that's exactly what I got. Add to that very stylish and clean. Like I said. Wow. I'm definitely going back. Already made my next appointment. As if that wasn't enough, the receptionist is gracious and helpful. I'm sold.

Teagan's the first hairstylist I've gone to twice in YEARS. I always feel "eh" about new haircuts. Only with Teagan's haircut, I really started to see a difference about 3 weeks later. It was growing out in a most awesome way. He has a "shark fin" technique that apparently works.
Going back in August. This time getting some random splashes like he has.
He's great. And quite entertaining. -

Teagan Teagan Teagan Teagan... and one more for good measure. Teagan!
I can't say enough good things about this guy. First of all; cute, fun, straight hairstylist... c'mon ladies... who wouldn't love it?! And he gives excellent cuts. I love my hair right now. I have long, straight, thick hair and have tried to get layers in it a few times and no one could pull it off right. I always got this wispy Jennifer Anniston BS. And I will pay for haircut - and have at some of the top big-name stylists in SF. Still, none of them has pulled it off. I'm sending all of my friends to Teagan now. I highly recommend that you get in there too before he starts doubling his prices, which I for one will encourage him to do. -

Ladies and gentlemen, this is my first review and I'm proud to say it's a good one. Maiden Lane Salon is well managed, casual high class hair salon.
For the past three years at least I've gotten my hair cut and supercuts or worse, did it myself. yea yea yea, im a weirdo. anyway, i have a friend who works there and begged me to come in and get a hair cut because my hair was out of whack.
Teagan was my hair stylist and he was quick and painless. besides washing my hair the hair cutting part only took about 20 to 30 minutes and our philosophies were similar, he didnt lop off a lot of hair or try anything radical. he trimmed where there needed trimming and he styled it up good and i was glad i went.
i also got a complimentary donut which was icing on the cake. if anyone is looking for a hair salon that gives the benefits of a high class hair cut without the high class attitudes i recommend this salon. -

I came in to see Teagan for a blow out. He started off on the wrong foot with saying that my haircut wasn't great. Of course it's not great it's fantastic, why you ask? Because you weren't the one to do it! I don't know how long you've been doing hair, but you never criticize others work in that way. You can say things like, "I feel you hair could use some . . . ." never start off with an insult! Then he went on to talk about how he comes from a family of hairstylist and that he is the best of them. It was a lot of "I am great" talk. Well to go on the blow out was just ok. He tried to make me look older than what I am. Is it because I didn't take on your advances only to shoot you down with "I'm married"?
Besides the appointment, this salon is really sad looking for a "Maiden Lane" salon! I could see it on Polk Street not Maiden Lane.
Not again my friend. Not again.
Funny how his 5 star reviews have written no other reviews for other businesses!? -

Oh, poor Teagan. I'm sure you thought I'd forgotten all about you -- "that ungrateful wench!". But I'm a terribly busy girl, and haven't got round to reviewing you until just now. Don't worry, though, it's all good.
Now, for the rest of you. About two weeks ago I was working on an event in Maiden Lane. A stylish looking young man seemed to be eying me from across the street. After a minute, he asked me who did my hair. I blushed, not because I expected a compliment, but for the sorry state my very long and healthy (but alas, untamed) locks had come to. It was Teagan from Maiden Lane Salon, and he offered me a haircut. Well, I thought, if it's that bad I'd better do it.
Two days later I managed to squeeze in an appointment (somebody canceled on him) between work and events. Teagan was amazing. We joked about him shaving my head (I'm not THAT brave), but he insisted that he just wanted to take off some of the weight and help my hair remember how to do something besides lay there under my hat (okay, that's not what he said, but that's the general idea). The cut was amazingly simple, but just interesting enough to be stylish. I was thrilled immediately.
BUT, I feel that I should add -- since I've been so long in reviewing -- that the cut has grown on me even more. I've had enough 5am mornings lately to make anyone forgo styling their hair, but it's held up beautifully. And the other day I was literally followed down Van Ness Avenue in rush hour traffic by a truck full of very appreciative men -- after I had been out sweating all day setting up yet another event! I would not joke about this. (Nor will I mention it to my husband.) The verdict: Teagan is an absolute must. I hope he does the same with color, because I'm going back. -

I'm always wary of haircuts - stylists can do a lot of damage in a little time. Olivier spent a lot of time talking to me about what I wanted, looking at my hair, and he explained exactly what he was going to do before he did it.
My hair looks great, the experience was very pleasant and I'll definitely be back. It's good to finally find a good stylist! -

I made a leap of faith on trying out a new stylist Teagan Squires and I was pleasantly surprised.
Teagan did a wonderful job on my hair and he was quite entertaining as well. Very confident, funny and most of all skilled at his art.
I was disappointed in the state of the salon though. All the equipment there was old. the shampoo station was uncomfortable and when you look up you see the tiles on the ceiling looked very old and water damaged. Place needs some help for sure.
Teagan however gave me a good deal and even better hair cut so I would highly recommend going to him at whatever salon he chooses. -

I always make my appointment with Manuel Martin. He always finds a way to squeeze me in even when I make an appointment on the same day and has at times even stayed late just for me.
He charges a lot but he is the best in the whole Bay Area (haven't really got a haircut outside of the Bay). I drive from Walnut Creek to San Francisco just for him, and spend extra on the parking, toll, gas, time and I even tip him $20 for a $50 haircut.
Yes, he is that good. There are times I don't tip a barista even ten cents because of a lack of service. I tip in accordance to their efforts. -

For my stay in San Fran, a main goal of mine was to get a good mani-pedi. I hadn't had one in months and my mangled fingers were jacked up from constant anxious picking. Trust me, it was baaaaad.
We actually stumbled upon Maiden Lane while on the hunt downtown for a good nail salon. First, let me mention that upon entry, every person that we came in contact with was very welcoming and greeted up with a smile. Great! A salon without the snarky attitudes!
When we arrived around sixish, we were told that the nail technician, Katya (who also happens to be the owner), could only do a mani for one of us. My friend bowed out and let me take the appt. knowing I needed it more. I asked again about getting the pedicure and was warned that it wasn't just any pedicure and would take an hour and a half. I was down until the receptionist ran my card and the charge for both was $110! The pedicure--excuse me, the Royal Pedicure was $85! True enough I was sick of going to the assembly line nail salons, but sheesh! I needed some pampering and that day I was worth it. I was assured it would be like no peducure I'd ever had.
Indeed, it was worth every penny. My feet felt like they'd never felt after over an hour of Katya taking her time and really doing my toesies up. And don't get it twisted; I don't have crusty flintstone feet either.
Even though it was getting later and later, she still did an equally nice job on my hands. Actually, they were what really needed an overhaul. After nearly a week, I'm still admiring them b/c the polish hasn't started chipping yet and my cuticles are still the best I've ever seen them! That's what I'm talking about! This was by far the best mani-pedi I've ever had and if I could fly Katia to Chicago once a month, believe me, I would! She'd definitely have a following here.
I'd been under the assumption that the salon closed at 8:30, but little did I know, they were to close at 6--around the time I came! How gracious is that? Needless to say, one hefty tip later, I didn't walk out of the salon until around 10pm! We were the only ones there long after the cleaning lady left!
On a side note, Teagan cannot go unmentioned here. Clearly he is all the rave in most of the reviews and I have to do so as well. Even though I wasn't there to get my hair done, he pleasantly greeted my friend and I in the waiting area and offered us a brief bit of chit chat and something to drink. I can't tell you about his hair skills, but yessiree, a most pleasant, hottie he is. -

In a city with a million hair salons, it's amazing how hard it is to find someone to trust your hair with. I have to admit, I was nervous going to see Teagan because of the many many bad haircuts/color I've had in the past.
Goodbye bad haircuts, hello Teagan! I cannot believe I've been working in Union Square for five years, he's been less than a block away and I am just now discovering him. My hair is looking a lot better (there is still residual issues from the stylist I went to prior to Teagan) and I am thrilled to have found someone I completely trust my hair with. An added bonus, Teagan gives you this amazing head/neck massage. -

I followed Mr. Terry to Maiden Lane Salon from Elizabeth Arden and Macy's before that. It took me years to find someone who understands my hair. Now that I have found him I am not going to let anyone else even get close to me with a pair of scissors. I always look forward to seeing him. He's fun on top of being very talented.
Wherever Mr. Terry is doing hair, by definition, is a 5 star salon! -

The Talented & Fabulous Teagan Squires!
5 STARS for Teagan on each & every aspect you look for in a hair stylist!
I am as particular as they come to the nth degree when it comes to my hair and Teagan is one of those rare breed that truly has vision/style/talent all in one. He executes to precision with such ease and flare. And if that is not enough, he's got a heart & soul that is so uniquely endearing you can't help but be instantly charmed. With that heart & soul, comes his thoughtfulness and generosity.
All in all, I absolutely ADORE Teagan and considers him my lifetime stylist and most cherished friend!
Ladies & gents, Teagan Squires is a TRUE FIND! I am a loyal fan. You will be too! -

I started dating an edgy badass of a French guy and I decided I needed an edgy badass of a haircut, so I went to Olivier at 111 Maiden Lane for a new do and some highlights. The color Olivier put in my hair was/is beautiful and I love it, but the cut he gave me is lame and way too, shall we say, mature for my taste. Upon meeting up with Frenchy a few hours after my time with Olivier, the first thing he said was how "conservative" my cut was. I was crestfallen but had to agree, and although Olivier is a total sweetheart and the color is fab, I'm going for a look that says rock the fucking house, not housewife. I won't be back.
If you are in the same want-a-rad-look boat and hell bent on going to 111 Maiden Lane, I would recommend Teagan. He looks like he could cause some damage in the best possible way. -

I answered a Craigslist ad from Olivier for a free shampoo/blowdry, and being unemployed, decided it was a good idea ;) Also it has been quite a time since I had a cut (which was somewhat traumatic) so I wanted some advice and a possible consultation for an actual cut this year(!) I usually am not a talker at salons, but really enjoyed our non-awkward conversation about all sorts of things. He was sweet and blew out my naturally curly hair, as well as gave me good advice for a cut. I'm going back next month.
i've become much less of a time nazi but was sad to have waited 15 min after my appointment, even after haven gotten there early. and i know it was a free appt, but an offer of water/tea might have been a nice touch. -

I must confess...I've been pretty selfish with my hairdresser, Mr. Terry. Although I've been a faithful customer of his for 13 years now (not to date myself or anything), I deliberately withheld my comments because I wanted to keep him all to myself, but alas, judging by the reviews, apparently the word is out!
Hands down: he's the best. Honest, insightful, and helpful. When I come into his salon with a new hair idea, he tells me what I need to hear (regardless of if I want to hear it or not). I trust him implicitly with my hair because he knows it so well. Recently he cut my hair in a hot new style (which I love!!....I liked it so much that I called him a few days later and thanked him for it all over again!) .
Bottom line: I can't imagine going to anyone else! -

I have been looking for a new hair stylist for awhile. Since I haven't found one, I have been coloring my own hair for the past two months. It looked like it. Dry, dull, lifeless...and the color. So washed out and brassy.
I called this salon by accident since a friend recommended 77 Maiden Lane. I decided to keep my appointment.
I met with Oliver and told him wanted a richer, more natural color. He was amazing! My hair actually looks like it has life....I booked appointments for my mom and daughter. Oliver is a professional that knows what he is doing.
Prices were reasonable, considering it is in the heart of Union Square. I agree with the other reviews that the interior/furnishings are worn and outdated. But if they can keep the prices lower than their neighbors, I can deal with the torn chairs! -

I just got my hair color done here. Teagan did a great job. He mixed all different colors and levels to come up with the perfect combo, then did a toner after to make if blend with my dark tips (leftover from a bad dye job), then deep conditioned, massage my head and neck, and finished it all off with an amazing flat iron. My hair hadn't looked that good in ages!
Definitely see Teagan. He is fun to talk to, but also serious about his work. Even though I just got color this time, I have had him cut my hair before and he does a great job, even on my frizzy wavy hair!
Teagan, you da man! -

I just got my hair cut and colored, and David Holt did an absolutely amazing job. I was just looking for a haircut and wanted to wash out my currently natural "mousey brown" color. I don't know the color line David used, but he came up with a lighter brown that really compliments my skin tone. I love it. I had asked him to just re-do my previous cut and he asked if I would trust him to update it a bit. I did, and I couldn't be happier. I'll definitely be back. The location is right in Union Square, and I did some shopping right after. The shop is really convenient and David has a great sense of style. Thumbs up.

I've been going here since highschool. Way back then Julie was my girl, she did amazing color/highlights and then when she left I started seeing Steve. He is truly skilled and it's just so obvious that he loves his work. Luckily his station is right by a big window so lots of great natural light comes in and makes the experience soo refreshing. Love this salon!

San Francisco, CA
I started coming here for facials in 2003, as I saw that they carried a line of my favorite French products (Guinot) and practiced some of the Guinot facials. My facial lady was great, but two years ago she left.
I tried to go a couple of times since then anyway, but the place has gone downhill -- waaaay downhill. I booked a facial for a Saturday. When I arrived, they said there was a problem -- a booking overlap. They they changed their story several times -- the facial person had to leave, no she could stay, no the other lady facial lady was coming in, she was just running late, um, they are finding someone else to do the facial....so I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes (yes, half an hour) while I tried to figure if I should stay or split.
Finally someone came to do my facial. But I guess she wasn't trained in the Guinot techniques, for she proceeded to tell me that I just needed a regular facial. The one I got was ok, and they comped me a brow wax, so I tried again the next month.
I got the same person the next time -- who didn't remember me. (Don't they do client cards anymore? and proceeded to give me the regular facial, rather than what I asked for. It wasn't great, so why bother going back.
Also, the staff here are extremely rude. They need a basic lesson on common courtesy, not to mention how to treat a customer. Sorry if I don't come to a facial apointment dressed in my Prada outfit with all my jewelry on wearing tons of makeup with perfect hair. That means that I am normal, not that I should be treated like crap. I know we are in Union Square, and guess what...I don't give a damn.
Also, while I was in the waiting room waiting for my facial, one of the hair stylists walked by, gave me a card and smugly said "I can take care of your hair for you". Uh thanks, but if I wanted a hair appointment here, I'm pretty sure I could figure out how to make one. Yes, I knew it was time for a cut, and I had a hair appointment scheduled for the following weekend. But I didn't appreciate Mr Know-It-All's attitude.
Bottom line, for a facial, you can get your money's worth (and more) by skipping this place and going somewhere else. And you can get treated better just about anywhere else, too. -

When I lived in the city back in 2005 this was my go to salon. Saying that I've only been here 2 or 3 times and I can't remember who worked on me. That is not lovely! I hate haircuts but I always left pretty content leaving this salon. That says a lot.

MLS is great under its new ownership. I come here for everything...massages, facials, waxing, cuts but my indulgence are the manicures and pedicures by Katia. They are above and beyond any mani/pedi in San Francisco. It truly is a magical experience. The one and a half hour pedis will leave you with "baby skin" feet. I am not kidding. No cheapie pedis for me ever again; it is worth the cost.

The Royal Pedicures by Katia are amazing!! After getting one, I don't know if I could call what I've been getting every other week for years a 'pedicure' anymore. I love high-heels and she was able to un-do all the damage I've done wearing them. Plus is in a private little nook which adds to the relaxation experience. Book one NOW!

I received a VIP membership for 111 Maiden Lane went today for the first appointment. I needed a haircut really badly and to my great luck was given an appointment with Teagan. Everything everyone else on here has said about is absolutely true!! He gave me one of the most amazing haircuts I have had in a long time!! He took the time to ask me what I wanted and actually listened. By the end of the appointment I would have given him free reign to do anything with my hair. He is a truly talented artist who knows what he's doing and does it incredibly. I HIGHLY recommend him to everyone!!
Cheers Teagan...thanks again!! -

Go to Olivier! I have thin, dull, lifeless hair that isn't easy to make look good, but Olivier totally transformed my hair. Not only did he give me a great haircut, but he topped it off with great color. He will ask you what you want your hair to look like, then pair that with something that will look great on you, according to your skin color, shape of your face/head etc. He has many years of experience, knows what he's doing and it definitely shows.

After a year of trying several salons when I first moved to the bay area (finding a new stylist is the worst!) I happened upon Maiden Lane. Mr Terry is the best, the front desk is nice and friendly (and returns your calls!), and the stylists seem to get along. I say this because I've frequented salons that make you feel like you just stepped into an episode of Dynasty. What is it with stylist and drama??? Anyway, they just remodeled, so the place is looking pretty nice. They also do nails and massages, but I've yet to check out those services.
