I have had the sashimi platter for dinner and the Albuquerque melt for a Sunday brunch and both were fantastic! The service is great as well, I haven't been back since they hired their new bartender, but when I was there for dinner I sat at the bar and it was a really nice atmosphere- very interactive with the staff who are great people. Not to mention the drinks are good!
If you want to go by yourself and talk to people or just grab a great cocktail, sit at the bar. If you want to sit by yourself and read the paper I love the little glass- greenhouse seating area best.
I will be going back! -

I went to 107 West with a few Asian friends and we all ordered Japanese food. I had the spicy trio rolls, and there are 3 types of sushi 6 each. I loved the one with crispy salmon skin, but the other two...taste too fusion to me.
They try to blend western taste and japanese food together, but it is hard, and they did a decent job, but not good enough to make me recommend them to my friends (except the crispy salmon skin sushi) -

My sister and brother-in-law live a short walk away from 107 West, so we decided to hit it up for my sister's birthday dinner. We ate dinner here on a Sunday evening, and there was no wait time for our party of four.
We were seated by a ceiling-to-floor waterfall thing that had me totally entranced for the first few minutes. Honestly I don't remember if the rest of the restaurant was well decorated... mainly because I was so fascinated by the waterfall.
The menu was interesting. In most places, I'd laugh at the menu and say there's no way it could ever work. However, this is New York City we're talking about. An American-Asian-Mexican menu with a New Orleans twist works in New York City. Sushi, fajitas, burgers, and jambalaya on the same menu. I had the blacken Mississippi catfish with roasted new potatoes. THE BOMB, I tell you. It was SO good. The roasted red pepper chipotle sauce was awesome.
We were all completely satisfied with our appetizer and entrees, but the real highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the mocha mud pie. I've had some world-class desserts in my days (thanks to many trips to the legendary Harry Waugh Dessert Room in Tampa) and I think that this dessert tops my list of best desserts ever.
Service wasn't quite on par with what would be expected of a restaurant of this caliber; this is the only reason that I am not giving five stars. After our table was cleared, we waited at least twenty minutes until I finally had to request our check.
107 West has great food and even better dessert. I can't wait to go back for another delicious slice of mocha mud pie! -

My cousin and I came to 107 with a http://Restaurant.com voucher. We weren't feeling the A/C too much in the front, so we made our way to the back, right by the kitchen.
Our waitress was perfectly nice. She brought us more bread when we scarfed down the first basket, and she kept our water filled.
The menu was all over the place. To me, that's often a sign that there won't be one good cuisine.
And that's kind of what we felt. The burger was bland, and my cousin had to ask for cajun spices. The sushi was fine, but I've had fresher tasting.
All in all, pretty "meh." -

They know how to make a martini, scallop appetizer excellent, blackened catfish almost as good as Red Rooster!

I ate here last night with my wife and an old friend. Not very busy on a Sunday evening. Strange how we New Yorkers sometimes disdain a too busy establishment, yet are wary of an empty establishment. You almost feel, "What's wrong with this place?"
The first thing I saw that was wrong was the B rating the health department gave it. Given that there are so many A's across the city, I've come to find a B rating to be akin to an F. C'mon, guys, keep the place clean and healthy!
The second thing that was strange about this place is the menu mishmash, which seemed to be a combination of Japanese and Southern food. This sort of culinary schizophrenia can't bode well, and it didn't. Let me be clear, it's not like the menu was a fusion of any sort. This place served BOTH Japanese and Southern food.
And the food was blah. When the best part of your meal is the mescaline salad. When the second part of your meal are the steamed asparagus...you know where I'm going with this. I could make this stuff better at home, and I'm not much of a cook.
My entree was the vegetarian sushi combo, and I couldn't finish it. The vegetables didn't taste fresh, the seaweed was too rubbery, and the ginger tasted like it was prepared that morning.
Our server was very nice and almost meek. The wine was fine. My company made no comment about the meal, which gave me the impression that it was indeed "blah." My wife concurred that the best part of the meal was the salad. Apparently this place was recommended by New York Magazine. I would counter this recommendation with a "soo many better places to go." -

Clueless wait staff; specials confused. We ordered a special--a half lobster on capelini, and decided on the salad as a side. It came minus the pasta. When asked why, the confused waitperson claimed the salad was the "substitute"--not so, but we let it ride. My dish, shrimp and scallops, was totally ill-conceived: they wrapped the skinny little shrimp around the scallops. Do they know that scallops take longer than shrimp to cook? I guess not. The shrimp were overcooked and the scallops were mushy and undercooked...all covered in a goppy breading that turned to an uncooked batter. Never again

This place is an asian fusion, seafood restaurant. At least that is what I gathered is their specialty from their menu. We ordered the calamari fritti which was excellent and the chicken quesadilla which was mediocre. I really enjoyed the Spicy Trio Rolls and can say they are one of the best sushi I have had. I will def be back to have this trio and try some of their fish dishes. They serve a large variety of fish and seafood on their menu at reasonable prices.
Place is decorated with modern decor that encourages tranquility. They also have a bar with sports, draft beer and cocktails. I had the ruby red cosmo and it was delicious. I did not like the raspberry mojito and would not order it again, too bitter.
Great Wednesdays specials $5 cocktails, beer and select appetizers! Will be back for goodness! -

So I'm hungover, watching Sleeping with the Enemy and working on a Saturday. Of course I'm getting delivery.
I ordered the hanger steak and a shrimp and avocado roll.
They did a good job being speedy - my hangover hunger wasn't making me particularly patient. They did a good job substituting vegetables for mashed potatoes - some restaurants don't even look at the delivery notes. And the vegetables themselves were quite nice.
But, good sides with a crappy entree? Not good. The steak smelled great - the begging dog to my left agreed. It was a perfectly cooked steak; unfortunately it was also the *saltiest* "sauteed" steak I've ever had. It was Poodle the Bulldog's lucky day as she got nearly all of my steak, and I... well, I grabbed a beer to wash it all down, and went back to my pile of work and my Julia Roberts movie, no more satisfied than I was before the food arrived. -

107 West has a loyal following among its neighbors, and I can see why. Speak to anyonee who has eaten here, and they will probably tell you they love the place.
Count me among them. 107 West is a very understated restaurant with terrace seating up front, bench seating and spacious tables in the back -- with a few interesting nooks and crannies and art on the walls -- and a 10-seat bar in the middle, always tuned to the local game, usually the Yanks.
Personally, I love sitting at the bar, where Andrew has been tending for about 10 years, off and on. It's a friendly bar and the perfect place to have some dinner on your own. If you want to chat with the friendly locals next to you, it's no problem. If not, no big deal. In other words, it's a great bar dining spot.
As for the food, I always get the fried chicken. This dish is just so great that I cannot force myself to order anything else on the menu. Others -- you know you're out there! -- know my plight.
I'm sure the fish specials are excellent, and I've heard the pork chop is sweet. I imagine most everything on the menu is pretty good -- but the fried chicken at 107 is world-class. It comes as a half chicken with choice of a side (read: fries) and collard greens. It's perfectly juicy, never greasy, always consistent.
In fact 107 West gets my vote for most underrated fried chicken in NYC. In a neighborhood not lacking for its fried chicken (see Miss Mamie's Spoonbread and Rack & Soul), 107 holds its own. And then some.Listed in: Up on 110th Street

This seems to be my go to place in the neighborhood when I can't decide where to go.
It's one of the few places I've found where I can sit alone at the bar and not feel awkward that I'm sitting alone. The staff is friendly, although can be a bit laid back (which only means let them know if you're in a hurry.)
The yum... Fried half chicken, the Tofu appetizer, any chops - yum -- and always take a look at the specials!
It's always tasty for brunch too -- , the southern french toast (rolled in corn flakes for an added crunch and served with strawberry butter.)
Thursday nights they often have live jazz to boot! -

The front of this place looks like a greenhouse. Weird facade but once you enter the main dining room decor becomes quite cool with blue lights and a waterfall.
Prices are reasonable. The hangar steak, spinach, and mashed potatoes were delicious. The menu has too many types of cuisines though. I didn't order the sushi since I prefer to see it made in front of me at a sushi bar.
I always try the local brew on tap. Red Wagon IPA from the Fire Island Beer Company complemented my meal perfectly. I would go back just for drinks. Plenty of local Yankee fans at the bar! -

Menu is all over the place, as were the heads of the employees. When I bring a twenty-spot to takeout lunch and emerge with less than a fiver, especially in M'side Heights, something's terribly askew. That being said, I called in an order via their offensively watermarked menu on the site that bears their familiar-looking logo (hmm). Pitafish/feederfish? (catch OTD) lunch special was saved by the sauce that accompanied it. Fish itself was OK and prepared blandly, spinach was canned, mashed potatoes were absolutely atrocious (worse than any instant I've ever had). Soaked up my misery with the decent bread in the stapled packaging.
+1 since my food was ready & edible, and +1 because the guy was nice and fished my change from his own Louis Vuitton coin wallet. -

I've been here twice, and while it may have redeemed itself the second time around, it's best still isnt good enough.
The first, I was tricked into attending a friends bday dinner. I was not happy to find out it was prix menu for $50 and entirely seafood entrees ( im allergic). The salad was mediocre, and my steak, which I had to harass the waiter to get, left much to be desired.
The second time was a better, perhaps b/c it was a party of 2 as opposed to 20, and the bf loved the ambience. I'm sure he thought it would make seducing me easier...he was right.
We were seated in a comfy corner near the waterfall and candlelit. The appetizers are actually recommended, the sausage stuffed wontons were amazing! and served with some sauce I am still trying to duplicate back home, but they come HOT so be careful or youll wind up as I did trying to resist the urge to spit it out much to your companions amusement. I got some type of chicken which was, well, just chicken. Not impressive or inventive enough for my liking.
The perk is there's a Haagen das one block down, so I'd advise you to skip dessert and go there. Trust me, your not missing anything in that department -

I went here on a weekday night and the service was great and the place was very clean. The only thing is...the food was really underwhelming. I ordered a char-broiled burger and my boyfriend ordered the steak quesadilla. It was pretty big portions, but I thought that the seasoning was really uninspired. I was a bit disappointed, but then again the prices were really fair. I don't think I'll go back.
Overall: Fair prices, large portions, good service, blah food. -

I have ordered from this restaurant for 4+ years and have had a few complaints over the years. Every complaint one makes is treated with hostility and instead of being apologetic and correcting the mistake, they blame the customer! A few nights ago, I ordered my wings extra crispy, super well done. The order taker, Ruby, repeated my exact order back to me, but when the wings arrived they were soft and sticky, clearly under cooked. I put them in stove and cooked them further. An hour or so later, I ended up vomiting. When I called the restaurant, Ruby said, "we thought they would be too dry if we cooked them more." They ignore your requests. Further, my food has arrived at times with staples in it or hair, etc. I think it is time to say farewell. They should appreciate their customers more. We are not at fault for requesting that our food is prepared a certain way. Isn't that their job??

I just went here for a farewell get-together for an old co-worker & really enjoyed myself! It took me a minute to find the spot (yeah I knew the address, but I almost didn't notice it at night because I found the signage to be poor), but loved the decor when I got inside. (But then again, I'm a sucker for a place that has exposed brick & tea lights strung up around the place.)
We all just had drinks and apps and I was happy to see what a nice helping of Cabernet I got to each order :-). The bacon-wrapped scallops were yummy, but I would've appreciated them being a bit more done in the center. The calamari was soo yum! And a friend held my hand (figuratively) as I tried a new piece of sushi, a food group I generally have issues with cause of the whole raw fish thing. On the menu is Crispy Salmon Roll, but my gf got them to substitute it with tuna. I gotta say, I was wowed to the point I was trying not to snatch up all her pieces! I'm going back for that sushi! I'm a believer! -

Surly waiter. Filet mignon cooked terribly (like shoe leather). They didn't even offer a glass of wine. Also, very overpriced inferior sushi.

Who would have thought you could get great hangar steak and terrific sashimi in the same restaurant? There are close to two dozen restaurants within three blocks of my apartment, and this one is hands down the best. The service is friendly but not obtrusive, the menu is an interesting combination of Tex-Mex, Japanese, and old standbys, and the wine is reasonably priced. Best of all, when I say I want my hangar steak really rare, that's how it comes. And no problems with substitutions; since I don't like the usual accompaniments, they cheerfully give me excellent grilled vegetables, which aren't even on the menu. All in all, a real neighborhood gem.

We only use lunch delivery and we only get one thing, but it is excellent. The steak and black bean burrito, ordered and delivered rare, is a huge, juicy, delicious meal for two with rice and guacamole. I would give 5 stars, but when I have eaten here in the very distant past, (more than ten years ago so it doesn't count), it was different. I can only vouch for the lunch, and also it is a great value at $7.95.

The appetizers and entrees here are just average in price and taste. My friend loved the chicken quesadillas; two of us at the same seating thought the soft tacos and fajitas were pretty blah (the fajitas don't arrive on a sizzling plate, and the tacos didn't have enough taste or that fresh of a tortilla). Their penne pasta dish with mushrooms had way too much sauce and salt. . . However, they have one of the best desserts here--the frozen mocha mud pie, which looks like a chocolate chipwich and consists of homeade mocha ice cream surrounded by crumbly, dark chocolate oreo-type cookies and drenched in thick fudge with swirls of raspberry sauce. Simply divine. I recommend coming here just for dessert or dessert and drinks since they have a nice bar area.

We used to live pretty close to this place and got delivery from here on several occasions. I am partial to their mango avocado chicken salad but I hate that on seamless web the default is no dressing instead of the recommended dressing, but that isn't their fault. My husband enjoys the chicken fajitas and I agree that they are quite good, but it is necessary to order an extra side of guacamole. Really, their prices just aren't that great and they never send utensils with delivery despite my requesting them EVERYTIME.

This is my go-to brunch spot in my neighborhood. I have come here with several people and have always enjoyed my meal. It's a bit calmer than the Columbia-area restaurants, which is a relief, especially after a late night! The portions are generous, and I love the homefries and the fruit salad which come with the main dish. You can order veggie options from waffles to black bean burgers. I'm always stuffed by the end of the meal.

I loooove this restaurant. The hanger steak is delish and quite possibly the best I've ever had in the city. I took off a star though since their delivery isn't that great. For some reason the food loses something on it's way from the kitchen to my apt (and I'm only a few blocks away). Definitely worth making the trip to eat-in.

I just went last night... They have recently revamped their menu... adding Japanese and sushi fare. I didn't try any last night... my friend was a little leery since there wasn't a sushi bar/chef in sight. I am curious to read some of the reviews about the asian offerings here. Their continental fare still tasty.

Read a good review on urbansppon about this place and I was really glad I went with it. The food was delicious (especially the oven roasted half duck) and the portion is generous with the price being very reasonable. Originally I was only going to give this restaurant 4 stars because I thought the bread is a little difficult to swallow but given the super professional service, the five stars are well deserved. We stayed at the restaurant for 5 hours, 2 of which were after we finished our meal but not only were we not pressured to leave, they brought us more drinks!

had some 'corn flakes shrouded bread'. i think they called it 'crunchy french toast'. it was pretty good, but a little too bland. the midday baseball scene at the bar was a welcome sight though. might go back for a 'happy hour' or 'music night'. weirdest decor.
