I have been eating at 100% taquito since I was a kid and every time I go back to Houston it is one of my must haves!
The restaurant is counter service where you receive a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready. You'll then pick it up from a counter. Appetizer/snack items are usually ready first.
My go to order is the beef banderitas only with cheese & crema only plus an order of beef banderitas with everything. They are nice and crisp with plenty of salsa & crema to add moisture to and prevent the taquitos from being dry. I recommend using a fork to pick up the taquitos by stabbing them through the opening on one end. This way your hands don't get salsa on them!
The pork rinds are the best! They always come out so fresh and hot that they're still popping & crackling.
The vibe of the restaurant is very casual and quirky with fun decorations for every season, holiday, & pop culture event. Even with the restaurant being indoors you feel like you're eating mexican street food from your fav taco truck.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 485124482Dec 11, 2023
Anytime I am in the West University area this is the restaurant that first comes to mind. The decorations and amazing which includes a huge animatronic skeleton by the salsa bar. The food is well seasoned and perfectly portioned. I wish i worked closer to this place as it would definitely be my daily lunch.
The service is quick and they staff will help explain items that you may not be familiar with. In my opinion this is a MUST SEE establishment, so have some adventure.
I highly recommend the sopes de tinga!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - John S.O‘ahu, HI01211Nov 28, 2023
If you've never had Mexican tacos, sopes etc in Cali or Chicago, you'll say they're good. But they're actually pretty mediocre. The salsas aren't great. Pricy.
I can have this in Chicago for 75% of the price and it'll taste 100% better.

The food is good most of the time, but it's really hit or miss. The horchata never disappoints. The only other thing is the bathrooms because they are a bit dirty, but other than that it's good. The people who work there are nice and efficient at taking your order and making taste good on a quick way.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 25, 2023Previous reviewGood service, but hit or miss food. Honestly not that good. The salsa is all watered down and really really spicy. That's coming from someone who lives in Texas and has family from Louisiana. Interesting choice with the skeleton decor every ware. It's very odd but it's this restaurants thing. If you want Tex mex don't come because it's just "mex" not Tex. Basically it's VERY authentic Mexican food. The street tacos are grate and the horchata is the best, but the rice and beans is absolutely garbage. The bathrooms also a very dirty and have graffiti everywhere, and the sinks barely work and there is no soap or paper towels.

Same as it ever was. Reliable, with a large menu at a good price. They still have Barbie related decor, which your kids may enjoy, and a 12 foot skeleton inside.
The food is good. Better than most fast casual and the vibe remains chill. The drink selection is good, but the non-alcoholic drink may be even better. I had a Rusa that was delicious enough to make me forget it was non-alcoholic.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 12, 2014Previous reviewWhen we lived in HTown proper, this was a regular spot. When we moved to the SW 'burbs, we just forgot about it. Several years passed and the wife and I were looking for a quick bite before a movie on that rare evening when we had someone to watch the kids. It was as good as we remembered. Every dish is great and the atmosphere is amusing (love the VW cab with Chapulin Colorado!!!).

Quirky decor with classic Mexican fare! The inside of the restaurant resembled the streets of Mexico City with an entire food truck inside and lots of lights and decor. I originally planned on taking out but upon seeing the decor inside I decided to eat there. The service was quick and friendly. I tried out the elote, chicken quesadillas and a Rusa. The quesadillas were reallly good, with plenty of cheese and flavorful chicken. Paired with some guacamole and some their green salsa, it was great! The elote I had was also really good and had nicely charred corn. They also had Valentina available which was great to add to my elote. My drink was a Rusa which is a sort of sweet and spicy drink which is a typical Mexican street drink. I absolutely loved it! Overall I really enjoyed all parts the meal and would come back to try more of their dishes.

I think it would be hard to get anything here that's bad. We sampled a little bit of everything. My favorites were the torta and tostada. The tacos were great as well. Good guac and salsas. The taquitos weren't my jam. I'd certainly come back

Solid 3.5/5. Ordered for takeout here and arrived at the estimated completion time. Walked right in and they got our order immediately. Ordered a handful of things and they all came out hot and freshly made.
Chipotle Flautas (Chicken) - There were 3 small flautas topped with cheese. It was very savory and you could definitely taste the chipotle. A little soggier than expected but still good.
Rice and Beans mix - Good. Standard rice and black beans.
Chips and Salsa - chips were thick and came in a large bag. The salsa was tomatoey and had a good amount of spiciness.
Beef Asada Tostada - 2 small tostadas that were crunchy and fresh. The beef was tender and flavorful.
Spicy brisket tinga quesadillas - 3 small quesadillas. best thing we ordered. Super moist brisket and soft flour tortillas. The thick layer of cheese inside was delicious.
Ordered a lot of food and everything was pretty affordable!
Parking is easy here since there's a big lot in front of the restaurant. Staff is efficient. The inside was decorated pretty eccentrically. Cool for photo ops. Also had a ton of seating and space. Good for large groups.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Amy S.Houston, TX26681Feb 9, 2024
I really like this place! Lots of gluten free and a few vegetarian options. I am gluten free and a vegetarian and always enjoy grabbing food to go. I have dined in but often get takeout. I like the decor in the restaurant. I love the bean and cheese sopes and the elote. The red and green salsa are both fresh and delicious. They have really good margaritas too.

Great spot for a no-frills texmex experience! Prices are reasonable. You order in the front and pick up your food from the counter. Parking is easy to find as it is in a large plaza.
There are a few vegetarian options (all labeled on the menu). My favorite is the vegetarian tostada. You add your own salsa from the salsa station from the front.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
