I read all the great reviews on Yelp, so I went to check out 10/10 Optics.
Wow! They way exceeded my expectations. I brought in my current pair of glasses to see when they could repair them for me. They repaired them on the spot within minutes.
In the meantime, I mentioned that I needed to get new glasses. So this really fantastic lady picked glasses for me that I never would have picked, but are so cool! I was so excited about her ability to pick awesome glasses for me that I also picked up some prescription sunglasses. I don't wear glasses.
Yet.
But I'm about 3 Netflix movies and 5 YouTube clips away from being declared legally blind so when I agreed to help my friend find glasses, it was less altruism and more recon. And what an insightful trip it was...
First off, the selection of frames here is fantastic. My philosophy on glasses is that they should be a little flashy. A little unique. Something fun that you won't get bored with after a couple months. And they certainly deliver at 10/10 Optics.
They had a huge selection of frames in wacky shapes, colors, patterns, materials. I was really drawn to the Wall o' Colorful Frames where they had glittery, multicolored girly glasses that would make me smile forever wearing them. For guys, they also have some really cool looking stuff including a pair of glasses made entirely of wood (hinges and all)*!
Next, the service was stellar. The staff was beyond friendly and made such amazing recommendations. They brought out pair after pair of great suggestions to the point that my friend had to choose between 5 favorites by the end. He even had a pair of prescription aviator sunglasses made.
What speaks volumes of their service comes 2 months after our initial visit when my friend lost the sunglasses and wanted to get them replaced. He calls up the store and they recognized his voice** and pulled up his file and had a new pair ready for him within the week! When he went to pick up the glasses, they made sure to put a nice label inside so that if he lost his glasses again, some nice person might send them back.
And if you've got kids that need glasses, this has GOT to be the place to go. They have the largest selection of actually attractive frames for kids I've ever seen. These are not the glasses you get made fun of for wearing. Rather, they're the kind that makes you wish you had to wear glasses too. Kinda like those florescent colored rubber bands for braces back in the early 90's.
In addition to all this, they are involved in a program that recycles old glasses by sending them to developing nations for those less fortunate to use!
So yeah.
As soon as my health insurance kicks in, I will finally make an appointment so that I can stop squinting and looking inquisitive.

Absolutely fabulous!
I have never had so much fun in a boutique optics shop. It was filled with humor, style and a few cocktails! The glasses were effortlessly picked for me by this lovely, knowledgeable lady. This was followed by highly enthusiastic praise from one of the owners (I believe) who proceeded to take pictures (with my consent of course). The flattery, I must admit, convinced me entirely with the choice! The eye-exam was conducted by a handsome, intellectual individual who completed the task by introducing me to this awesome beer I am thrilled with. Stylish selection and a great way to sit and try on glasses -- even a camera/screen to take pictures and see how you look. The people were very nice and fun to joke with. I would recommend this store above the majority of others. It does deserve the high rating, unlike others on Yelp (and I went to about 10 of the top 20 in Manhattan).

Extremely friendly service and not pushy whatsoever. I find that a lot of the boutique places have staff with attitudes and who give subpar service if they know you're watching the price tag.
Nate the Great, who insisted on being included in this review, forwarded me the yelp deal email he received. I was actually looking to get glasses so it was perfect timing. I saw that yelp reviewers gave this place great reviews so I stopped in to see if I liked the merchandise. I loved the frames that I tried on - unique and great quality. The wonderful customer service I experienced in that 10 minute period and the unique and fun frames convinced me to purchase the deal.
I dealt with Jesus who was really good with picking frames to fit my wide face. It was a fun and painless experience and I spent most of it trying to decide between 5 or 6 frames. They all surprisingly fit my fat head which was always a problem at other glasses places but I only had one yelp deal so I had to just pick one (I'm kinda regretting buying only one, btw). I finally picked out a pair (with input from Jesus, another sales woman and a woman who was shopping for glasses). He didn't give me any problem using the yelp deal and the total came to a few dollars less than I was hoping to spend. So, I stayed under my budget AND got sexy, unique frames- win win for me!!
The next day, around 3pm, they called and said my frames were ready!!! Crazy fast!! I brought in my 13 year old frames for laughs and Jesus replaced the missing nose piece and cleaned up the lenses as an added bonus! I would definitely recommend Jesus!!
Sure the prices can be a bit higher than a Cohens or Lens Crafters and I don't think I could shop here w/out insurance coverage or this yelp deal, but I believe that customer service and being able to trust the company goes above and beyond saving $50 or $100 at a chain location for subpar frames. I am confident that if I ever have problems with my glasses, they'll be more than happy to fix the problem. And that's kind of rare nowadays.
I got a bunch of compliments the first day I wore my new glasses and I actually ENJOY wearing them and giving my eyes a rest from contacts. In a few months when I am eligible w/ my insurance company for $$ towards eyewear I plan on coming back and getting another fun pair. I love making a fashion statement with them. Look forward to it!

What does it take for a business to earn the lifelong loyalty of its customers? 10/10 Optics must know the answer, since I end up buying all my glasses here. This optician stocks some fairly high end frames, and you can expect to pay a pretty penny for your vanity. Yes, you can get away from less expensive frames, but if you have a predilection for things unique or uncommon, or if you simply are really picky, you'll find yourself lusting after the more expensive frames pretty quickly.
The service here is excellent. Unlike the competition, with 10/10 I've never felt that I've taken too long, asked too many questions, nor been too indecisive. The store itself is appointed beautifully, and really feels as if you're a guest in someone's homes, albeit with hundreds of eyeglass frames on the walls. There's very little staff turnover here. Everyone who works here seems to enjoy doing so. I've had the same salesperson since 1996, and that's a rarity in any business. I come in, talk with my contact, let him know what I'm looking for, and we start the process of narrowing down styles, all while seated comfortably at the counter.
The staff knows their inventory, and they have excellent taste. They already have an idea of what would look good on you, doing their best to keep you way from frames you'll otherwise reject. They also respect your budget (if you have one). I'll try on dozens of frames, reserving a few favorites for comparisons as I narrow down my choices. You can have four photos of yourself, with different frames, simultaneously displayed on a video monitor, or even sent to your email, to help you choose. Once you do make your selection (there's never any pressure to make a spot decision), they measure your face for symmetry adjustments, and will usually have your glasses in a few days. This isn't a one-hour optician, but then again, that's the good news. This place is for people who really care about receiving good service.
If you didn't walk in with a prescription, you can usually get an exam done almost immediately. They also do what needs to be done to make sure you are happy with your prescription. I was recommended to get progressive lenses, which turned out to not work out well for me at all. They took back the lenses and we determined I was most comfortable with two sets of lenses, one set in my new frames, the other in my older, still very serviceable, frames.
I've tried to like other glasses stores, from the one-hour shops at the malls to other well known places in NY, and I've only been met with apathetic, impatient, and/or clueless staff and an uninspiring selection of mass-produced frames. 10/10 continues to impress me, and judging from the number of other repeat customers who show up during my visits, I'd say I'm not alone in my sentiments.Comment from Ruth D. of 10/10 Optics 7/18/2011

I love 1010 Optics!
After years of being disapointed with Cohens Fashion Optical, from their pushy salespeople and ugly frames, I was brought in to 1010 Optics by my sister who wanted an opinion on her frames. The frames available were gorgeous, stylish, and at very good prices. I actually bought a pair myself because they gave us significant discounts buying on the same day as each other.
The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable. I have to get extra thin lenses due to a high Rx, and the prices beat Cohens by over $150! I am also ordering contacts through 1010 Optics because their starting price is lower than Cohens lowest. Cohens first offers a super high price, which you have to pull teeth to negotiate, but 1010 Optics starts off at a low price and is honest.

The staff was friendly but refused to honor a yelp coupon I had bought. They didn't except any insurance so it didn't make sense for me to pay for the lenses so I thought I could use the coupon towards the frame or sunglasses they wouldn't let me do either. Told me I had to buy both frames and lenses. Money down the drain. For the exact same price you can go to any other lens store and buy well known brands like gucci and versace... Just a thought. I won't be going back.

10/10 Optics, I love thee.
I first visited a couple of years ago as a glasses-choosing assistant to my boyfriend. The staff was super helpful and he chose a great pair (a little pricy, yes, but he knew that going in. He has...special eyes). He's been a happy customer since then.
Fast forward to today. I'd ordered a pair of glasses online and they were squishing my head. I brought them to 10/10 to see if they could adjust them for me. And they did! Happily! No charge. They also put new nosepieces on my crappy sunglasses. And the lovely woman that helped my boyfriend find glasses two years ago even said hello (I can't remember her name, but she has curly hair. Alex? Something with an A? I'm the worst with names).

After looking at pearle vision and lenscrafters for a pair of rx frames (and being disappointed by the ugly "versace" symbols), my mom had heard of this place on the north side of madison square park, We entered and i was skeptical at first but once the lady had us sit down, she just asked what color, i responded tortoise and instantly a dozen frames were at my hands that were all great. lady helping knew exactly what frames would look good with my facial structure and knew what style i was going for. I was torn between two frames and bought a pair of Bevel rx frames. got complimentary rush delivery and couldn't have been more satisfied with my time there. I used to hate glasses and exclusively wore contacts but now i'm eagerly awaiting my new set of frames!

While I didn't actually buy any glasses at 10/10, I was incredibly impressed by their service. I initially stopped by asking if I could buy replacement screws for three different pairs of sunglasses which had come apart. I had expected to buy a few screws and repair the glasses myself, but the staffers told me that they would replace and repair all of the glasses free of charge, even though I didn't buy a single pair from 10/10. Seeing as you never get anything for free in this city, I kept on asking if I could pay, but they insisted it was a complimentary service. They told me to come back in 15 minutes, and when I returned, all of my sunglasses were fixed. I was so thankful, I would definitely plan on coming back, even though they are not my normal opticians.

I went to this place because of the yelp reviews and I was disappointed...I would agree with K.C. as to how the reviews are all about the eye wear and frame selection but none actually talk about the eye exam which is such a rip off.... yeah its a rip off....Why? Because they just do like a 10 min quick examination without dilation and stuff and there you go ....sanitization is a problem too...but for me was the intense ffrustration that I had to go through ...the only solution that the doctor came up for my eyes was the rigid lenses ....that is a hugh investment meaning bucks for the company ....welll cuz my eyes were heavyily polluted and would always give me trouble that wat he said.. ...at sometime after my trial the doctor started getting frustrated with me and started giving me less and less time and I was soo unsatisfied....
I changed my doctor this year.. and hell yeah i am satisfied turns out there was no problem with my eyes and the one day lenses that 10/10 has said does not come in astigmatism were actually available and here I am happy go lucky with my new lenses....NEVER mark it NEVER am i going to go to this place again ...
and honest mistake as it maybe...i was once handed over samples of number -9 and -10 when my lens number is only -1.5 ....so be careful there too ...i could have ended up having severe headaches......

I'm a contact lens wearer by day, a glasses wearer by night (e.g. the two minutes it takes for me to walk from the bathroom to bed). However, I still want to get the coolest, funkiest glasses I can to distract from my intense coke-bottle lenses.
I got my last pair at 10/10 about five years ago, and decided to go back there even though the store wasn't covered by my insurance, as I remember there incredible selection and service.
My boyfriend (aka fashion adviser) and I sat at the counter, while Charlotte selected about 30 or so frames for me try on, refining her selections as we went on based on my feedback or the funny faces my boyfriend made indicating that these were not the right pair.
Charlotte also took photos of my in top four picks, but despite the great selection I just didn't find "the one." As we were leaving, Charlotte's colleague asked if I wanted a shot. I thought she meant one of my photos, but she meant a real shot. So we pulled back up to the "bar" - I had a shot of Frangelico, while Andy had some Jack.. Talk about service.

I am a brutal person...with my glasses. Disorganized, absent-minded, etc., but enough about me, what do you think about me?
Oh, right, reviewing 10/10. Recently I stepped on my glasses and needed a new pair before my vacation abroad. I was desperate and didn't have time to make a trek to Chinatown where my optician of 8 years takes good care of me. 10/10 is around the corner from my office, and a friend got a good pair from them two years ago.
What service! Jesus Hernandez waited on me and sized me up (or at least my face immediately). He set out pairs that were flattering, yet funky and modern. He also took pictures of me wearing my final choices so I can see which I like. With my art director colleague, we all chose one that I was very happy with. All told, I was there for 45 minutes, chatting away about graduate school (Jesus wants to go) and my vacation. He took down my prescription and came back with my old glasses fixed up and polished. He said it would be ready on Monday (this was on a Thursday), but I said I am going on vacation on Monday. He rushed the service, no extra charge. Four hours later, he called to say my new fabulous pair was ready.
When I left, Jesus and everyone else at the shop wished me a good vacation. It was just friendly and casual. Best experience picking up new glasses, which to me is as boring as picking up new underwear.
Highly recommended for unbeatable service. -

My Theo glasses (purchased elsewhere) have been having some issues, so I dropped by this store while in town visiting my sister.
Even though they knew I wasn't there to buy glasses (and didn't even live in New York!), they helped me with the problem and were very courteous. I would certainly return here as a "real" customer if I move to the area. -

I randomly walked into this eyeglass store after hating 3 others that I had researched and tried first. It was my first pair of prescription glasses so I had no idea what I was looking for.
The woman that assisted me at 10/10 optics took a lot of time with me and was extremely friendly. They had many pairs that were good options for my small face. I was very happy with my experience and highly recommend them. -

This place is great. I spent lots of time in November and December scouring Manhattan for funky, unique frames. You'd think that would be easy in Manhattan, and I suppose it is compared to many cities, but I still found it a bit of a challenge to find a store with better selection than the standard LensCrafters fare.
To make a long story short, my quest ended at 10/10 Optics.
They have loads of quirky styles here, with several designers and brands I didn't see anywhere else. Best of all, the staff is knowledgeable about what works for your face shape and never tires of digging up new things to try, based on what you say you're looking for. They also don't hesitate to tell you when something isn't right for you.
They have a funky computer & digital camera station set up that I haven't seen anywhere else. Once you narrow it down to your 4 top choices, you can take pictures of yourself wearing those frames, to compare side by side. They even let me compare with a picture of myself in my old frames. So helpful!
I ended up with a classy retro, yet modern plastic butterfly style frame. They're black with green details. I have gotten so many compliments! They were expensive, but hey it's like buying a facial feature, so it was worth it to me.

This place is a little Eh for me. I think generally they have decent services. I've been a few times and typically left satisfied. But the last time I went I was having problems with my contacts. They were making my eyes bloodshot. I saw the doctor and he told me I had to get all sorts of specialized lenses now and it would cost a lot of money. He said my eyes were being hurt if I didn't do it. It didn't sound right and I wasn't buying it, I felt like he was making guesses. I went somewhere else that I liked better. Eventually the problem was solved by simply getting a better cleaning solution.

At the time of writing this, 10/10 Optics has 11 straight 5 star reviews. And this will be the 12th.
When you walk into 10/10, you get the feeling something is different. You can't quite put your finger on it, though. Is it the subdued lighting, slightly reminiscent of a lounge? Or is the fact that customers are chuckling along with salespeople left and right, like they've known each other for years?
That's certainly the beginning. My wife and I saddled up to the "bar" and were shortly met by Alexandria Meblina. She asked how could she help, and my wife told her was looking to replace some lost glasses. "Something red, maybe purple. And fun."
"I'll be right back," said Alexandria. A couple minutes later she returned with an armful of frames--over a dozen--and arrayed them neatly on the counter top. While my wife tried them on, Alexandria kept the perfect distance, knowing exactly when to chime in and when to let my wife figure things out on her own.
My wife plowed through the first round of frames, setting aside several that she liked while Alexandria went back for more. The frames ranged in price from about $150 up to a beautiful $800 pair made of some exotic African wood. They were all elegant and stylish, though--nothing looked cheap.
Once my wife narrowed her choices down to a handful, Alexandria took pictures with a special camera that let her see four images of herself at a time, allowing her to compare frames side by side.
A few minutes later, and we'd found the winners. Alexandria broadened our search a bit, suggesting frames that matched my wife's skin tone and eye shape. She ended up with a pair of subtly funky black and orange frames with a neat pattern on the inner rim.
About five days later, the frames were ready. My wife was ecstatic. They are the first pair of glasses that she really loves, I think.
Oh, and Alexandria sent my wife home with a couple cleaning kits, one for each of us. A few days after that, we received a thank you letter from Alexandria with a nice handwritten note wishing us good luck on our upcoming move.

Nothing but good things to say about 10/10 Optics. I found them based on Yelp reviews and now want to add my own 2 cents.
Extremely friendly, helpful and courteous staff greeted me when I entered, provided great frame suggestions (they bring all glasses from behind a counter) and remained extremely patient as I agonized over the choices. A cool digital photo/computer set up allows you to compare side-by-side photos of yourself in different frames.
They have a GREAT selection of petite frames, perfect for my small face!
The staff optometrist was also friendly and courteous. He chatted pleasantly throughout my exam, reviewed all available contact lens options for my difficult eyes (astigmatism, strong prescription, extremely sensistive) and offered honest opinions on each.

Customer experience was for me a 5 star treatment because when I entered, I saw bright smiling faces behind the eye wear bar and heard healthy positive banter between the sales associates while I milled around with a friend.
Clarity of product category deserves 5 stars for me because I immediately understood what glasses and services they offered before having anything explained to me. I do not wear eye glasses; therefore the experience is generally overwhelming to me in other optical stores. At 10/10 optics, I felt calm and excited by their selection. I left hoping that someday I too will need glasses.
Knowledgeable staff gets 5 stars because they know their eye wear. As I observed my friend try on selected pairs, I was amazed at the detail and intricacy associated with each company and pair that he tested. The sales staff knew exactly what pair would work with his facial shape and dimensions. They also seemed to have an intuitive understanding of what styles would be tool loud or too quiet for his personality and profession. I think it was the quickest selection process that I have seen.
Superior environment gets another 5 stars because 10/10 optics has an organized retail environment which functions smoothly. There are no huddled customers in one corner looking at the 'most popular' pairs, it is an open space with an airy feeling. They offer every client his/her own stool in which to experience and test glasses, as well as the option to see photographically what the frames look like from others' perspective.
If you need to have an eye exam, they have you covered as well with an honest, thorough doctor who performs the exam in record time. Not that I experienced it myself, but this is how my friend explained it to me.
The only thing that they could improve is to open another location uptown near me (selfish I know)...but then again, I am sure they will when they are able to find another location with the same amenities the likes of their current corner spot on Madison Square Park.

Although I ultimately didn't end up purchasing a pair of frames here because I ended up finding a better deal at Eyes on Broadway, I still wanted to write a review because of how incredibly friendly and informative the staff are here.
Regardless of where you prefer to go for frames, stop by here to get the most personal, friendly, and helpful experience in the business.
They also have a digital camera attached to a computer with a dedicated program that shows up to four images of yourself wearing different frames so that you can make a better decision about what you look like in them. I still think this is a great practice, and Dr Rozenberg is very friendly, chatty, thorough and professional. Sadly, after a hefty bill, I realize that they don't take my insurance (United Healthcare) so I think I will need to find another...$120 is too much to pay for annual routine eye exams.

Great service here. If you're looking for glasses, ask for Charlotte, she is tremendously helpful and nice. She will even fill out your insurance claim form for you. The eye exam is very thorough but quick. VERY pricey though.

I have purchased glasses from this business for years. The last time I went in, which was on the day of a huge blizzard, Mustafa was holding down the fort and was all smiles and of immense help. I bought three pairs of glasses and a pair of sunglasses and everything was ready within a few days. I am not sure why people are bugged by Dr. Rosenberg, but he was cordial and thorough with the exam for my prescription. People should remember that you go here for glasses and to a doctor's office for a full eye exam. I love my glasses and as I wear them all the time I now have frames that go with everything in my wardrobe. Thanks to Mus an 10-10!

I recently had the privilege of getting 2 pairs of glasses at 1010 Optics and I think that I worked with the best optician in NYC, maybe even the
world! I went in just looking to get one new pair of glasses but Mustafa narrowed down the field to a few selections of frames that took me a
little outside of my comfort zone. I ended up buying 2!
He succeeded in finding the absolute best frames for me. He took the
time to understand my personality and profession and found frames befitting my lifestyle and career. Mustafa has an amazing eye for finding the right colors to match my skin tone and frame shape that best fits my face.
Though I was a bit hesitant at first to go with his first choice, whenever I wear those new glasses, I get tons of compliments.
He was very patient with my wanting to try on many different frames and he was very upfront with his honest opinions. He definitely was not
trying to point me to the most expensive frames in the store.
I highly recommend 1010 Optics and Mustafa for anyone who wants

THE BEST. I am very nearsighted, and have been wearing glasses for 50 years. Fitting me with glasses has been difficult and I have consistently been told I can only have round small glasses because of my prescription. Not great with my round face. Not any more!! Dr. R gave me an exam and a prescription, and Ruth and Jesus worked with me to give me stylish rectangular (!) glasses. When one pair of glasses didn't work out, they tried, and moved on to another w/o the recriminations I have had from other places, e.g., "it's because of your high prescription, what do you expect." Here, it's let's work w/you to get it right.
I have now bought 3 pairs and just ordered a 4th pair of glasses in a year. If you are a hard to fit person such as I am, do yourself a favor and go to 26h street and Madison. LOVE LOVE LOVE 10/10 Optics!!! (With one caveat, which I will explain at the end.) I went to 10/10 based on its proximity to my apartment and the excellent reviews here on Yelp. My initial visit there was FANTASTIC. I found a pair of unique frames which looked awesome (verified by their digital imaging technology), and I also got a pair of sunglasses.
Caveat - when I went back to pick up my glasses they were horribly busy. I needed a small adjustment made but had to wait for 20-25 minutes before a technician was available. The adjustment only took 2 minutes. However, this does not dampen my enthusiasm given the awesomeness of my initial visit. Plus, during those 20-25 minutes I had a great chat with a cool couple who were trying on some cool specs. They have a great selection of frames and are enthusiastic about pulling out as many as you'd like to try on. They let you choose the ones that catch your eye but also give good suggestions and push you out of your comfort zone in a good way. They also have a digital camera and will take pictures of you in all of your frames so that you can compare them. Ruth and Dr. Rozenberg are the best. the staff is always friendly and helpful.
they have seen me through the changes in my vision and have worked on finding the correct contact lenses and glasses.

Went to this place because of the reviews, but I should have read them more carefully. I could see this place being a great place to get glasses. However, I just needed an eye exam so that I could buy more contact lenses. You could tell that they were really trying to sell you glasses right away. I was told to sit down at the bar, where the sales associate went on and on about how you need glasses and blah blah blah. I told him I was perfectly happy with what I had, since I only wore them to bed. He kept saying "but wait, try these on, you might like these." It was clear he was just trying to get a sale, and really wasn't listening to what I was saying.
Dr. Rosenberg was a nice guy, and definitely had a good conversation with him. However, the exam was not nearly complete, and the exam office is definitely inferior to any normal optometrist I've been to. No real testing besides just testing "can your read this." Very friendly staff. Nice, knowledgeable and to the point optometrist. I was just there to check my Rx and nothing more. He didn't try to push new lenses on me or glasses. I was also able to walk in w/o a wait. The rest of the staff was very nice. They also have a digital camera that you can take pics or yourself in different frames to ponder which ones you like best. Would definitely f/u here.

I came here yesterday for a full checkup and new glasses. Charlotte's first choice of frames for me were exactly what I bought. They are perfect for my face and funky-cool without being weird. Dr. R was thorough and explained things to me about my eyes that no other optician had bothered to mention. He is also a great conversationalist. The price is worth it for the checkup, and go online for $50 off coupon on frames.

This place is all fluff and not really a quality eye care business at all. They completely ignore your own needs and experiences and come back at you with their pre-programed jargon to the point of it being comical. The doctor is a nice guy, but he doesn't really listen to the customers needs. Don't get me wrong, the staff is super nice, but it would be even better if they showed some compassion to resolve issues you were expressing to them in regards to your lenses, instead of giving some crappy responses.

I just got back from 10/10 Optics, a trip I made based solely on Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed! Good service is hard to come by in this city, but Alex was patient and laid back, and honest about how each pair fit my face. The optometrist, Dr. Rosenberg was kind, calm and informative. Even though it was a Sunday evening and they were about to close, I never felt rushed to leave, even when I mentioned that it was approaching closing time. The bottom line is that I was amazed with how normal everyone was there- never forceful, creepy or distracted. Once I had settled on two awesome pairs (one for business, one for pleasure), Alex offered me and my boyfriend a celebratory shot of delicious peach schnapps! They know how important choosing and purchasing a new pair of glasses is and they want to share in your joy... plus, who doesn't want to drink on the job?!
