Neighborhood: Brooklyn/Brighton BeachThe Odessa Privoz was one of the biggest markets in the Ukraine and was lovingly mentioned in countless Russian books, movies and songs. It was the center of Odessa shopping, the place where people went for fresh meat, fruits and vegetables, jeans with misspelled Levis labels, pirated tapes of Vysotsky, and the latest gossip.
#1 Privoz can't possibly live up to its namesake's fame. Named for obvious nostalgic reasons, it's a simple Russian deli. The prices are average, the selection is average, and the service is just as average. The place is still very young, but unless the owners figure out how to distinguish themselves from every other Russian deli, they will be drowning in competition.
