I normally stay away from sushi places as I'm vegetarian and don't eat any fish. I went in here with some friends, and was very pleasantly surprised! I ordered soba noodles pan-fried with tofu and vegetables. I like my noodles loaded with veggies, and that's exactly what I got - the veggies were fresh, cut to the right size, sauteed and salted to perfection.
The place itself is quiet and unpretentious. Definitely going back here again! -

I was also tricked by the *high Seamless web reviews* and low Yelp reviews.
Our miso eggplant appetizer and Yaki Soba with shrimp and chicken was saturated with oil and the protein was super dry.
Don't waste a meal on this place, it's not worth it. -

Wow - AKi is still open?
I vacillate between 2 & 3 stars.
Not horrible - but definitely not great.
Inexpensive for lunch. Decent for delivery (can be slow - so know that before you call.)
With so many better choices (Sushi of Gari is a few block North) I usually skip Aki. -

Ordered take out, the chicken and shrimp were dry so we had to add a lot of soy sauce just to eat and the eggplant appetizer was greasy. The order was delivered fast and the meal was reasonably priced but it won't be first on my list for Japanese take out next time.

Review from Allene T.
I ordered from seamless after I saw the 5 star 1400+ ratings. I kind of expected it to be better than just average. I used the $10 off $15 seamless code promotion and got the whole thing delivered + tip for $5.01.
I ordered the 3 roll lunch special: salmon avocado roll, spicy yellowtail roll, and spicy salmon roll. Salmon avocado roll was typical of any other place. Spicy yellowtail was kind of gross because it tasted like it was half cooked. My favorite was the spicy salmon roll - cut up (instead of mashed) salmon with the typical spicy sauce. I didn't like that my sushi was warm. Gross. The miso soup was bland. I actually enjoyed the salad and the ginger dressing though. -

Delivery Speed: 5 Stars
Toro Scallion Role: 1 Star
Crazy Roll: 4 Stars
Lobster Roll: 2.5 Stars
While my order did arrive quickly and they made no mistakes, perhaps it would have been better had they. The toro scallion roll was completely flavorless. The lobster roll was great conceptually (tempura fried lobster pieces, avocado, tobiko all wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber) however upon closer inspection, i.e. trying each ingredient separately, the lobster itself was fishy and did not seem fresh, causing the whole roll to be kind of meh. The one highlight was the crazy roll which was made interesting by the addition of the plum sauce. That I would definitely have again. Everything else....PASS -

I decided to give Aki another try a year later to find out things have not changed much. It took a good five minutes before I was seated in an empty restaurant. The two men on the floor were too busy scrambling to answer phone orders.
I ordered a salmon bento box which was very disappointing. The piece of fish was cold. It must of been broiled hours ago. The salad was not fresh, decaying brown spots throughout. They declare themselves a Japanese restaurant but cannot even make a simple California roll right without falling apart? The highlight of it all were the three small pieces of fried shiumai like dumplings.
I'm not so sure if they're even worthy to be featured in Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. -
Review from Judith G.
I just ate at Aki Sushi the other day, in the early evening, and it was a very relaxed atmosphere and the sushi was very fresh.
Try the white tuna, when they have it. And the $4 hot sake.
The sashimi dinner was also delicious and satisfying.
This is one of my new favorite neighborhood places when I am craving sushi on the run, and I want something reasonable, high quality, in a casual atmosphere. It reminds me of Taiyo's which was a hole in the wall on York off 73rd, and the quality was as good as anything at Nubo's. I really miss that...because they moved to LI. I hope to make Aki my new local place. -

Worst service ever!!!!!
It took them forever to deliver a chicken teriyaki bento box. I order this for lunch from my fav place all the time but today I decided to give this place a try - bad idea!! It took them 45 minutes to deliver my food from the restaurant, which is 3 blocks away!! ( i know!! it's cold and I'm a lazy bum thats why i order in)
When I placed an order they said my food is under 10$ so i cant pay by my card, which is understandable. But once the delivery guy got here, he didn't have the change for me so he had to go somewhere else to get change. What is the point of wanting a customer to pay cash if you dont have change for them??
I opened my bag and found that they did not give me rice!! how can i eat with no rice??? so I had to call back for the 2nd time and try to explain that they forgot my rice while they were yelling at each other...
I'm still waiting for my rice to deliver while i'm typing this..i dunno yet if the food is good or not cuz apparently it's almost an hour alreay and I've not gotten a chance to have my lunch yet..ahghh so annoying!!
This is a warning!! if you're hungry, DO NOT ORDER from them!! -

Be wary of any place that has 1,000+ ratings on Seamless -- it's like those eBay sellers that have highly inflated ratings. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!! I cannot emphasize this enough. First of all, the FOOD IS NOT JAPANESE. At all. I plan on posting a picture on Yelp!, but, the gyoza were nasty, we ended up not eating most of it -- even dogs wouldn't eat this crap.
This is aside the fact that they were extremely late on delivery, and when I called to complain, the owner, "Mike," told Seamless that they delivered on time. I have an e-mail confirming order time and cell phone records of my calling them TWICE to check on status. Then, they offered "$5 off the next order" when my order was ~$80 including a $7 tip. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. -

I ordered delivery from here and waited about an hour. I'm not usually that picky, but I had sushi and chicken teriyaki. It was...not good. The sushi was kinda warm and mushy. The chicken just had a bad taste, dry chicken and strange broccoli. I was pretty disappointed and wouldn't order again.

Just ordered from here for lunch since they can accept orders on http://www.seamlessweb.... I had the terriyaki chicken lunch which comes with 3 pieces of fried shumai, salad, 4 pieces of california roll and a miso soup. The chicken comes with the thick terriyaki glaze and a bed of sauteed onions below it. If you truly look under the brown sauce the chicken looks really....weird..it still tastes like chicken but it just looks jenky. The white rice had this kind of sheen that I could only describe as the chef basting it with a jar of vaseline. The soup had a lot of tofu but little algae...still tasty
The presentation was neat though and the delivery was fast..the california roll wasn't the greatest so I can't vouch for the sushi -
Review from Sonia C.
It's edible but not awesome. I had two of their rolls - Spicy Hana and the White Seaweed Special Roll - and neither were impressive. The latter was especially underwhelming - not enough fish and way too much avocado. Again, I have a personal bias against avocado in sushi (it's just not supposed to be there!) and most of their rolls had the slimy stuff in them. The Spicy Hana was a little better though their tuna tasted kind of fishy.
However, the cooked food that we ordered was pretty good. The yakisoba was tasty and had lots and lots of seafood. The cold tofu and seaweed salad were both tasty.
20% off your first order if you do it via Seamlessweb. Super fast delivery. It won't change your life, but it'll do if you're craving fast, relatively cheap sushi. -

Ordered Sashimi Lunch Special via SeamlessWeb delivery. The sashimi was excellent. Far better than sashimi lunch at other sushi places nearby. Lunch came with a salad and miso soup. The wasabi sauce was very fresh and strong (excellent!) The delivery service was a little late (the estimated delivery was 15-30 min, but it actually took ~45 min).
Overall, sashimi quality better than neighboring sushi places, but the price was slightly more expensive. -

I ordered off of SeamlessWeb and the ordered arrived in 15 minutes. I got a California Roll and Vegetable Dumplings. Delicious and fresh. Will order from here again.

Nothing stands out, but everything is good. It gets 4 stars becasue we were able to leave full and the bill (with tax) was just under $40 before tip. That makes me happy. :)

I was surprised that Aki was completely empty when I arrived there, based on the good reviews I saw on http://www.sushinyc.com. Maybe it was because there was bad weather. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and the "out of control roll" was yummy! The decor is very simple and plain. Also, there is not much privacy (the tables are close together), so this might not be an ideal spot for a date. It is a good place to bring friends!

I've never ate in the restaurant but the takeout is really good off Seamless web. Arrives pretty quick, good sushi & decent prices.

Ate there today for the first and last time.
placed smelled faintly of mildew. why i even stayed makes no sense to me either. food was mediocre, sashimi, which i ordered, was cut very, very thin. service was bad, the staff was pushy and unfriendly. came in at 2:40pm and ordered lunch special, at 3pm sharp the waitress came over and said lunch ends at 3pm, but since you are already eating we will charge you lunch price. huh? didn't i order before 3pm?! i was so put off by her comment, i under tipped, which i have probably done only once or twice in my life.
anyway, i say find another place to dine in the area if your looking for a sushi restaurant. -

The food is delivered quickly and seamlessweb has them with a 20% discount. For what it is, it gets the job done. The spicy tuna handroll wasn't anything great; it fell apart as I ate it (not a good sign). The other rolls were fine and the specialty roll was really good

perfectly 3 stars. the fish is generally good quality, they have decent lunch specials, the service is OK.
What makes me crazy though is they do not put wasabi on the sushi. let me repeat that. they do not put wasabi on the sushi. are you hearing me?
why you might ask - well it's because they are condescending to their non-japanese clientele. they don't think americans want it the same as japanese people would - how could they, they aren't japanese?
that attitude pisses me off enough to not go very often -

I ordered pork cutlet bento box. I just have to say rice was horrible, i could tell it sat in rice cooker for long time. They need to serve fresh white rice. Sushi roll need to be rolled tighter, so it can be picked up with chopsticks! Pork was very thin and too much panko outside!! I am sorry but I could not give more than 2 stars for this place.

Personally, I think this is a decent place for Sushi. Not too pricy, and delivery was not too bad. Ordered the bento box, which I recommend if ordering from here. You get Miso soup, rice, Gyoza, Salad, Sushi Roll, and Entree (I ordered the Avocado sushi roll, vegetable Gyoza, and Teriyaki Chicken). The food was average, it did the job, and there was a ton of food. Average food deserves average ratings however, so I give this place a three. Would possibly order from this place again, for a order in sushi.

Way to expensive for what it is, very very bad service, yet i have to go as my friends always go since that is the only japanese next to us. We recently discovered a new one called Kobe btw 78 and 79 streets and york which is excellent!

NEVER order sushi from this place. They advertise that they take 15-30 min to delivery, but in actuality you will wait well over an hour. Furthermore, when you call them to check on the status of your order they will not pick up the phone. When they eventually do pick up after several rings and needing to look up a shady side phone number on the internet not included in your seamless web confirmation, they will be IMPOLITE and straight our LIE about where the delivery man is. I highly, highly recommend finding a different sushi place. Avoid at ALL COSTS.

Well I now live extremely close to Aki sushi on York. As such I had to try it out for one of the first nights in the new apt. when the stove was still covered in boxes. We went on a blustery Sunday night and business was slow. My take on it was kinda mixed. On one hand the waitress recommended their special live scallop appetizer which was served sliced thinly on thin lemon slices with a light ponzu sauce... delicious (but 8.75 for what was essentially one scallop). The other stuff we ordered though was rather ordinary. We had varieties of their roll combos and while the normal ones were ok, the spicy rolls all tasted to me like whitefish salad. They had too much mayonaise which I hate (I know what you are thinking, why order the spicy rolls which usually have mayo then?... because I like them ok). They were also about 1.50 more than the same stuff at other places. Maybe we caught an off night. I am sure I will go there again b/c of it's extreme proximity and if my opinion changes I will happily update the review.

aki is hands down my favorite seamlessweb UES sushi ordering place. now, that many specific qualifiers should not take away from the place. as a delivery joint they do a great job - always very punctual and whatnot. hot items arrive hot, sushi promptly so as not to make you concerned about lingering in the heat of a summer's day etc etc. i mainly order the basic rolls, the special rolls, and occaisonal gyoza. the tuna i have have a fantastic track record with - always very fresh and even in tone - the rolls are also not too rice heavy, plenty of fish and avocado (my favorites are simple, what can i say) for your money.
in person the place is fine. not rock your socks off but tasty and efficient. pretty empty in person the weeknights i attended. -

I just ordered from there. It took an hour even though they claimed it would take 30 minutes. I love sushi and I threw out half. This was gross and I'm actually totally disturbed right now with that feeling that gross sushi gives you. Also, I got brown rice and there was no flavor at all. Im so dissapointed and will never order from there again.
