ANOTHER FIVE STARS!!
I called these fine folks ....again....to get some stuff out of my garage...again. I decided I am the kind of person that uses the garage as the "denial room". I put stuff down there that I think I will use again (denial). I don't really look at the stuff down there when I go to the washer/dryer (denial). I pretend not to see crap I have when going to the second fridge/freezer to get something for the upstairs fridge/freezer (denial).
You can imagine how sad I was about that severe denial when I realized the clock change. I am one of those organized people who have a list of things that I do for and around my house when we change the clocks like check smoke alarms, clear my closets and drawers, wipe down all cabinets/pantry, and check caulking on everything.
They came and did a great job.
Well, kind of.
See, I was convinced they did not pack the truck as tight as they did a few days before this appointment at my office. I didn't review it because I was so conflicted. I love this company but I wasn't so in love with them after that appointment and felt I should try to talk with them before posting. Then I got busy.
When I phoned to have them come a few days later I asked to NOT have the same crew. The manager asked me why and I told him. He asked if I would be willing to have one of the two come to my office.
I am always up for a great comeback. I believe in good hearted second chances.
They cleared everything so fast! They packed everything in the truck tightly, swept, AND for peace of mind, let me see the packed truck. It wasn't easy considering the movers where there moving my gear out while they were working around them clearing and sweeping. It was remarkable how well they worked without ego or issue - they just did their job.
I appreciated how the guy who I complained about was not only professional - he was friendly and really went out of his way to ensure I felt like the money I paid was what I was getting.
I really love great, hard-working, honest people like that!
If I combine the stuff I get rid of because I don't like the energy it holds based on the person who gave it to me coupled with two daughters - we have a considerable amount of stuff in the "denial holding area" aka garage.
800 Junk - you are my "denial" clearing phonecall for my garage.
Thank you for consistent five star service pick-ups!

So after dealing with the Salvation Army refusing my stuff because the guy decided he didn't like particle board, I went to the GOTJUNK. Website. It was incredibly simple to use and one hour later the guys were at my door. Super friendly, gave the estimate, and 20 minutes later all the stuff was gone. Paid by credit card, gave a tip and it was all that simple.
I'm torn btwn 3-4 stars because the price was expensive ($308) .. but they were clear on the price upfront and I could have refused. I also suspect it could be negotiated down.
Definitely will be using them again for the convenience and professionalism factor. -

I got a new sofa and love seat delivered thinking Macy's would be able to haul the old sofa away. I was wrong. Frantically got online at noon and discovered I was able to make the 3:00 window. On the same day no less! It was so incredibly easy I could cry tears. They came over, gave me a quote for hauling the sofa away, gave them my card, they took it, and it was done within ten minutes. The two guys were incredibly polite and friendly. I highly recommend this company if you need stuff hauled away pronto.

As a Personal Assistant, I have very high standards and many clients with high expectations.
I know 1-800-Got Junk will be on time, will confirm the appointment and the team that shows up will be fast, efficient and professional.
They have saved the day and are consistent and are a perfect price point.
Great service. -
Review from Gloria H.
Jennifer's review reminded me of my experience with 1-800-Got-Junk? Moving from FC to SF was no easy task, especially when our living space goes from 2200 sq. ft. w/ a large patio and closet and a 2 car garage to just over 800 sq. ft. So what do you do with all the stuff you have collected in the years that you so lovingly stored away in the garage and every single storage space available? You call 1-800-Got-Junk? Or in my case, you reserve it online.
I was not home when they came but hubby was impressed with them. They call prior to arrival - on time. The two men were efficient and fast...yes, they clean up after all your "treasure" are put in the truck. How cool is that? Having to hand over the home to the new owner, this was probably the most stress free process to get the garage cleaned up.
You should know that they will try to recycle or reuse anything they think are useable...so your junk may end up in a loving home somewhere. -

I called them to get rid of some stuff while moving out of state (out of San Francisco CA that is).
I booked them online on what was a pretty good website, got a time target and a cost estimate. I scheduled for the next day (and there were several slots available).
They called me about an hour before the appointment and asked whether it was ok to show up 45 minutes ahead, which was fine with me. The two guys were nice and took the stuff pretty quickly.
It was pretty efficient and worry-free but I have to say: this service is expensive (the only reason I rate three stars only)! I ended up paying $300 (a bit more than the estimate but because I added some stuff at the last minute). This was for a mattress + box spring, a couple of plants including a really tall one + a tall trash can + some random junk. There were no surprises in terms of the bill though, no hidden fees or fine-print stuff.
It's great if you want something convenient but again it's not cheap. For reference, I also took some stuff to the SF city dump (on Tunnel Ave) . They take pretty much everything (including household cleaning products for SF residents) and charge you $140/ton ($25 minimum). So if I had rented a truck and bribed a few friends with pizza and beer to help me load it, I could have saved some money but I was in a rush and needed to do this on a weekday.
Also (and if anybody from this company is reading), I would like to know what they're doing with the stuff. Do they make any effort to recycle the recyclable part of it? do they just drive to the dump?
PS: if getting rid of furniture: at least in SF (Noe Valley) the old technique of leaving something on the curb is darn efficient. I left two things on two different days and they were gone in about 1 hour. Craigslist also worked pretty well. -

Don't believe the hype.
My service was great -- consistent with other yelpers. I liked the guys who showed up.
The claim by the company, however, is that they "donate, recycle and only then trash" items. This is way overblown.
I carefully collected good stuff that was useable for someone else -- but "junk" to me as I no longer have storage for all of it. I'm talking books in perfect condition, clothing, good towels and the usual not-so-perfect junk (broken garden hoses, etc.). After they came and I paid my $350, I climbed up and looked in their truck.
These guys are expensive trash haulers!!!! Not donators. Not recyclers (who are meticulous).
What a disaster. The TV I thought would get "donated" (in perfect working condition but is just old) was broken when it was tossed in the truck. The load put in their truck before mine was from a muddy construction site and all of the fabric items I'd carefully collected were soiled. No way would they'd be picked out. Way too costly.
Based on my environmental background, here's what I now know:
1 800 got junk collects trash -- for higher than their waste disposal fee to make money. For this I don't blame them. But being mislead -- nah uh. Not going to make this yelper very happy.
They don't sort. They do what other haulers do -- they take the stuff to a transfer station nearby (not even to a municipal recycling facility). There, they get out metal, usable wood -- and all the stuff your curbside program would recycle that's valuable enough to warrant the effort, as this lowers their disposal feel.
Don't be fooled, like I was. If you can't do the time -- sorting and donating your stuff; don't expect someone else to do it. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. -

Email conformation, phone call follow up A+, 5-star service for sure.
I have some broken down moving boxes in my driveway, maybe about 40-50 medium size boxes. Currently takes up a foot print of 4' x 4' x 2.5'.
I do not have the time or vehicle to take these boxes to the recycling center. Nor do I have the patience or time to cut the boxes into smaller pieces and twine them together in small packages for the recycling center to come pick up.
So the 1800Junk dudes showed up right on schedule which was appreciated. The down side, they said it would be $188. what the f**k? I even said "seriously?". They looked embarrassed too. They said well, how much do you want to pay? I said, maybe $50? No deal. They got in their shinny, glossy truck and drove off.
Crazy. I can go rent a U-haul truck for $19.99 and drive them to the local recycling center. I guess I have to now! -

The 2 Stars are for the two friendliest men that came to do the work. They were on time, polite and fast workers. So I have nothing bad to say about the workers.
Now, I want to agree with Maria M.'s review. One of my closest friends had passed away, and just one week later, we had to empty her apartment out. It was a lot of work, and we took as many boxes of things to Community Thrift that we could. But there were some heavier things, as far as boxes of dishes, small furniture, working sewing machine, etc., that were too much work for us to get out.
1-800- Junk was called. I felt relief knowing that my friend's things would be donated and/or recycled.
Well, they just started tossing the things, dishes breaking, etc. Some of the things they threw out the second story window onto the back of truck.
I don't blame the workers; I think the company may be misrepresenting itself as recycling or donating items.
I would call them to haul a bunch of crap for sure, without the expectation that good things will be donated.
It was a time a grief, but now I always just give my stuff away on Craig's List if I want it to get a home. -

I used this service a week ago to haul away some dirt and broken concrete.
The two guys we quick to haul away the junk from my yard. They did all work, making junk removal easy.
My only complaint is that I think they kinda over charged me. I was charged for half a truck load. I saw the truck after it was loaded, and I'm pretty sure I did not have that much junk. They were original thinking about charging me between 1/2 truck load to 3/4 of a truck load.
I was like f-that.
The two guys doing the work were cool, but the prices not so much. -

Today, I said goodbye to an old friend. She'd been with me 11 years. Reliable, forgiving, steady & comfortable. She'd seen & been through a lot with me.
Although I made several attempts to find my big ol' comfy blue couch a good home and save the earth, I couldn't find any takers. I found this place via an online search & booked an appointment today.
The haulers were quick & friendly. They said the couch would be taken apart and the wood would salvaged-at minimum. With an empty living room, I'm a bit blue but looking forward to my new couch coming soon.
Book online & get some $ off your bill. Worth it. if you have big bulky items that you can't take away yourself. -

God bless these people. I had a 3 br house with a huge garage/basement that was filled with the detritus of 5 people's lives, not to mention the detritus of a few mice (as the guys from 1 800 GOT JUNK discovered). I craigslisted my ass off, and then I "free" craigslisted my ass off, and then Community Thrift did a pickup, and what was left, these guys came and got.
So nice, so kind about the bullshit in my house, so efficient. Also, expensive. But I didn't even care - they saved my security deposit. AND they swept.
God bless them. -

I LOVE THESE FOLKS.
I've been using their service at my work for the last few years and I have yet been disappointed by them. They're friendly, work super fast, not sketchy and the phone operators rule too.
I just wish I could get them to come to my house to haul all that junk in the garage...but Pops would never let me. BOOOOO! -

The nice folks at 1-(800)-GOT-JUNK confirmed my appointment by e-mail, called ahead when they said they would, arrived on time, and did a fast and neat job with a minimum of fuss.
Not only that, they knocked a few bucks off the price because I didn't fill up all of my allotted space. Now you gotta love that!
I would definitely use this service again. -

I normally don't take the time to rate services like this, but I had to make an exception this time. First of all, I was able to schedule a pickup first thing in the morning with less than 12 hours notice, and they arrived in the early part of the 2 hour window they gave me.
Second, and more importantly, they were quick, friendly, and professional. I was at the tail end of a move out of an apartment and was on my last nerve. The move had been a real nightmare up until this point and my landlord was making it even more difficult. The last thing I had to do was remove some old furniture and junk and the friendliness of the team of Kevin and Bud really made my day. The removal went smoothly and quick with no headaches, and they were even fun to chat with. I think they helped me avert a nervous breakdown by mere moments. I will not hesitate to call them again. -

the epitome of efficiency. web site shows available times/days, you pick one and you're done. follow up emails, follow up call that day and then a heads up call that the truck is on its way. that is service. and all I had to do was point out what to take and they did the rest. a tad expensive, but hey, I'll pay a premium for premium service

Very good service, just expensive. The guys were cool (yay one guy had black fingernails!!!! Rock on!), and worked quickly, but I knew I could never stomach the cost again. I gulped and wrote the check.
I just wrote a review fore a local hauling guy that I liked very much and who I will use forever, but I wanted to be fair and give 1-800-Got-Junk their props. Good service, but way too expensive. My husband flipped when he found out how much I paid. You can get the same or better service for less than 1/2 the price elsewhere. -

A bunch of dumb ass stoners that can't find jobs anywhere else work here!!! I WILL NEVER use got junk again in my lifetime.
We hired them to clean out our basement, they gave us an estimate of two full truckloads, and it was CRAZY expensive!!! So we worked a little harder ourselves and cleaned out tons of stuff before Got Junk was scheduled to do a clean out. They arrived and just TOSSED, HAULED, BROKE, DESTROYED any and all items that were in the basement. They put huge items in the bottom of the truck and put small items on top, QUICKLY filling the truckloads they quoted us. Such an irresponsible way of loading the truck caused us to fill the two truckloads with half the basement still left to go, even after we did some cleaning ahead of time.
After two hours of work, the two stoners said they had to leave to go to another appointment. OH and by the way, they set aside several items that they wanted for their personal use!!!! What nerve!!!! So only after two hours, and with half a basement full of stuff, they left, gone, disappeared!!!
As disgruntled as we were, we called headquarters and asked them to come back and finish the job at no charge. So two different loser stoners came back later the next week and finished the job, for that, I give them one star.
Otherwise, Got Junk SUCKS!!!!! Way too expensive, brain dead, irresponsible and lazy dudes work there, very disappointed with the service! -

I don't know what it is with these guys, but MAN I'm telling you that they fucking ROCK. I've used them twice now -- and if I ever have to get rid of some stupid, past-its-prime piece of furniture again, these are the guys I'm gonna call. "Yo! Thomas B. here, and I GOT JUNK!"
The first time was last year when I got a new couch for Xmas. I didn't receive it until like February oh six and had to get rid of "The Kidney." I'd been in possession of it for five years -- it was handsome at first, black and ruby-red, a kidney shaped piece with two teacup swivel chairs in the same design. But I had neglected to notice that the "suede" cover wasn't real "suede." It was, in fact, "fake suede," and fragile, to boot. Let me express my pissed-off-ed-ness at the rate that that "fabric" disintegrated. It disintegrated. Like, really really fast. Faster than I could stitch it up fast. And the foam stuffing started to come out. Can you say fugly? I knew you could. I took to covering the holes up with Mexican blankets, but they only did so much for this mess. But at long last, I was getting an actual couch with REAL SUEDE. Black and beautiful as all get-out. But I had to get rid of the kidney-shaped behemoth and its ugly little teacup twins first.
Enter 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Dude, it was so freaking easy. I picked up my telephone, dialed the eleven digits, said, "Yo it's Tommy baby are you down wit it?" They arrived at my house, knocked on the door, not having no idea what my flat had in store. Sorry. Got carried away there for a moment. Long story short, they took my shit. They were fast, efficient, and friendly. A little on the expensive side, sure, but they were fucking marvelous.
The second time was when the old planter boxes on my front porch had their little "meltdowns." All that grew in them was weeds, anyway, but all the rain over the years had caused their bottoms to rot out and collapse, spilling soil ALL OVER THE FUCKING PLACE. "Hello? 1-800-GOT-JUNK? I GOT JUNK."
So they came, they saw, and they fucking conquered. Two trips it took, filling huge industrial bags with rotten wood, dead weeds, and putrid (but very high-grade) soil with them. Friendly and smiling to the end, they even swept up the mess! How cool is that? However, my front porch to this day still smells like a dark, musty-ass rain forest. I mean that in a good way.
I cannot recommend their service enough. Got junk? Give these helpful guys a call. You will NOT be disappointed. -

Service was OK, but the two young guys were talking a bit too off color about their girlfriends for my taste, right in front of me....made me wish I had their numbers so that I could call and check one's "rash" and tell the other that "I for one think a D cup is more than ample". Bottom line, I think the service is way overpriced. But they were available same day, which i needed and appreciated...so there's that...

excellent service. exceedingly polite, courteous, and professional. lower price than anyone else.
you call their number, and unlike the other junk haulers, they have friendly operators, they give you estimated prices up front based on volume, and then the local truck calls ahead of time to confirm your address and the time. and then they show up precisely at that time.
these guys hauled some of the nastiest shit i've seen in a while off my roofdeck. four stories up. we're talking 500+ pounds of rotten cardboard and wood, food trash that had been up there for months, a 100 pound bag of wet perlite, etc etc. not to mention a 120 pound washer/dryer combo. there was no charge for the stairs. no charge for weight. simply the volume you take up in the truck, no questions asked.
i was quoted $450 by SF Haul, if you include the washer dryer. these guys did it for $265 with a smile.
as far as the reviews complaining that their junk wasn't given to starving children in africa, i'm sorry, but the name says it all - these guys are junk haulers. if you have old clothes you want to give to kids with leukemia, call the salvation army. if you have a huge pile of shit you don't want to deal with, and want the best price and most genuine customer service i've had with any business in a while, call these guys. -

I could not be happier with this service! I had to move out of my apartment fast, and had a TON of junk to get rid of. I'd seen the blue trucks around SF and decided to give them a call. Two guys in blue showed up, friendly as ever. I showed them all my stuff and they said it'd be a truck load. While it was a little pricey it was TOTALLY worth it. They got rid of all my 'junk' in less than 2 hours and i was so impressed. If i ever need to get rid of anything again i know who to call. I told my parents about this service to get rid of all the junk in the backyard and basement that had been there for years. They called them up and had them take away everything, they had nothing but praises!! great, courteous, friendly and honest service!!! totally recommend!

I had a great experience with 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They arrived on time with a two man crew and quickly reviewed the areas where they would be working and what specifically they were to take away. The were incredibly fast in loading the truck and were flexible about one last minute addition we made to the haul.
This was my second experience with them and it was as good as the first. The price was very reasonable and we were finished in no time. The workers were very polite and careful. I will be using them again when necessary. -

After you've had your sidewalk sale and filled every trashbin in a 2 block radius of the apartment you are moving out of, you call these guys. They come take a look at what you've got, give you an estimate -- charges are based primarily on the percentage of truck you fill--and then they take it all away. And, bonus, they recycle/donate when appropriate. Also, they are very curteous, and if they are judging you based on your waste, you'd never know it.

Having read over all previous reviewers, from those thrilled to those outraged, I feel I need to remind people that any business that is going to survive and thrive is always going to charge as much as the market will bear. Yes, GOTJUNK is expensive. At some point when I was readying myself to hand over what I knew was a goddawful amount of cash for pretty much totally unskilled labor, I had to remind myself that something is worth as much as it is worth in regard to the good it accomplishes for the customer.
So, they did it good, they did it fast and they cleaned up after. I will never know if the salvageable stuff got recycled, but it's gone--and I myself am in no physical condition to have made that happen in a cheaper, lower-level sort of way. Also, they did reduce the fee a bit, unasked for by me, when the truck wasn't totally filled and they were courteous and competent. GOTJUNKs clone, ECOHAUL charges exactly the same. So, I'm grateful such an outfit exists. (But they are still too expensive!)Comment from Daniel D. of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? 11/12/2009

I got prompt, courteous service today from two very professional movers. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the whole process was -- from online to pick-up. Perfect for someone like me who's on a tight deadline and is about to move. I wish I had called 1-800-GOT-JUNK? years earlier, rather than renting a truck to haul items to Goodwill. It was definitely worth the cost. Michael J.

Helped a friend move last month and just saw one of the trucks driving around and was reminded what a great service this is. They were quick to come and haul away all of my friend's extra junk (she had a ton!) and were awesome. Damon and Kit were the best-- hilarious and helpful. If you've got extra stuff around and need a hand, this is the number to call.
