This is one of my favorite places in Newburyport.  It's a little off the main road, so you get a quieter version of downtown.  The atmosphere is very relaxed, and includes original artwork with a new show every few weeks.  The owners and staff really know their regulars, which adds to the friendly feel.  If you're new and boggled by the unbelievable range of choices, they're also happy to give you a few suggestions based on your preferences.

There are also a few, select options for food, and all of the items on the menu are absolutely delicious.  (And, of course, go well with tea.)

You're encouraged to try your tea free of milk, honey, or other additives.  While those are available, I'd definitely recommend taking their advice and taking a taste first.

I highly recommend Licorice and Sloe to anyone, whether they love tea already, want to try something new, or don't think they like tea but are willing to give it another go.

I love my Licorice and Sloe t-shirt, but I'm not so geeky as to wear it in the Tea Shoppe...  Jennie and I try different teas almost every visit.  For a half an hour we eat a cookie, read our books, snuggling in the comfy chairs while drinking great tea.  We feel like it's the kind of place you find in the South End, but it's right here in our home town.
We may go this morning for Sunday morning Jazz and tea.

As Kat H said, there is certainly a lot more here than I was expecting. I love this little tea shop. You can buy the tea in bulk or get it made there. I always go for the kewlers in the summer.

They make everything there as you order it, so it takes a bit of time to wait, but the little cafe environment is cute enough that you don't mind a bit. They have a few tables out front in the summer, with some softer chairs in the back. I always get mine to go, but it seems like a nice environment. I dare say they have wireless since I see people sitting there with laptops, but I could be wrong on that one.

The couple that owns it seem like genuinely nice people. I love this place and go there at least weekly.

What a great place!  I only wish I lived closer so I could go there on a weekly (or daily) basis.  It's a small tea shop, and the owners are affable and informative.  On a huge blackboard, hung from the ceiling, you can see what tea they have to order to drink or to buy in bulk. Loads of tea choices.   If you stay in to drink your tea, they serve it to you, in a pot, with a timer, and place the teapot on a little wooden slatted tray on your table.  I couldn't figure out what it was, at first, then I noticed that you put the tea strainer on the slatted part...Cool!  The front room has your conventional square, small cafe tables and wooden chairs.  If you're lucky enough--you can snag a little cosy upholstered chair and table in the back room.  There are about four tables with chairs surrounding, but that room, too, is small.  The room is softly lit, with walls the color of creamy coffee, and chairs in sage, mustard, and teal.  Black accents.  It's a serene, lovely place to while away a pot of tea.  And the cranberry scone was homemade--moist and flaky, like the best homemade biscuit you probably can't remember :)  I've been there twice--once just to get a cup of tea to go, and once to sit and sip.  It's a great place--and I hope they are there for a long, long time.

My husband and I found this place after searching every tea/coffee place from Rockport to Boston for a place that served Bubble Tea, and what we found was a whole lot more than we were expecting. Right off of the main shopping area, this little tea room is stocked full of exotic and rare tea blends. We ended up talking to the owner for a good 45 minutes about how he got into tea, about the various kinds of tea, good brewing methods, etc. and were absolutely fascinated with his knowledge and obvious passion for tea. Tin canisters line the room behind the cash register and for very reasonable prices you can bring home the tea you just had.
We actually found out they don't do "traditional" bubble tea except during the summer, but they have their own blend on it which--while I personally didn't like it--was innovative nonetheless.
The two rooms are small and cozy, with local artwork on the walls, and tea "equipment" and books for sale. We're planning to go back again for our favorite, the Dublin Irish Cream; we're hooked now!
